  1. I'm not 'that' sure about how bag limits are fully determined other than to sustain a viable population, but minimum size is definitely set to allow 50% of the population to have bred at least once. Don't actually recall where I read that, however is probably also on DPI website somewhere. cheers, stu.
  2. Just because I'm a bit interested in the science . . . from the DPI pdf's on Mulloway . . . "Average size and age at which mulloway attain sexual maturity in NSW is estimated at 51 cm and at 2+ years for males (Fig 42a) and 68 cm at 3+ years for females (Fig 42b). In South and Western Australia, mulloway do not become sexually mature until they are approximately 70 - 80 cm (approx. 4 kg) and 5 to 6 years old. This (again) contrasts with male and female mulloway in South Africa reported as maturing at average lengths and ages of 92 and 107 cm and at 5+ and 7+ years, respectively." Good effort Restyle! Cheers, stu
  3. Hi Cracka, If you're new to fishing for blackies, don't be too upset 'old-matey' next to you is getting more fish. If he's my age it's quite likely he's been fishing for them for a lifetime. See if you can see how he puts his weed on or since he gave you some of his weed you could probably ask his help! Varying your depth can be important, the exact spot your fishing on a given tide can make the difference too. If there is a bit of a eddy try to get your drift going into that. We tend to 'plumb' how deep the water is and then come up a few feet as a starting point. Then move up/down a bit at a time as the tide changes and/or until you find the bite depth. Part of the joy and challenge with blackies is how finicky they can be!
  4. A group of young blokes planning a trip? of course you got the fishing part sorted and not much else thought about! 🤣 A always a good yarn waza, thanks for keeping them coming. Another Datto 180B owner here . . . absolutely bullet proof, it even survived me doing the mechanical work on it.
  5. Beaut Whale shots JonD! and good to put a face to the name. cheers, stu.
  6. Have I missed where they are saying the LGA restrictions will be lifted??? I can see a bunch of freedoms around number of ppl in your home, number of ppl exercising etc . . . But nothing mentioned about lifting LGA restrictions. Hoping that will actually get announced, as at the moment I'm 'assuming' it will be the case . . . and I hate assuming.
  7. Any Lud about 40cm's is a solid fish. Well done!
  8. Another good read waza, RB was a VERY lucky fella.
  9. Thanks Waza, another good yarn!
  10. This is what we did too, I still remember wrapping the leather belt around the fly wheel to start em up. One year, we had a month a Brooklyn staying in a flat above the boatshed and going out in the wooden clinker hull hire boat most days. Great memories . . . . . . cheers, stu.
  11. @kingie chaser We used to also get out to places like the Dee Why pub, The Antler, various pubs in Balmain, pub at Crows Nest and others I’m not sure I fully remember! Like you we saw lots of great Aussie bands, close up and sweaty. I’ll add Divinyls and Aussie Crawl to your list as a couple more of my faves.
  12. Bloody hell . . . you guys keep bringing back the memories! Dad used to take Vincents APC's, I seem to remember them being pink. Wasn't the ad for Bex as the remedy for all that ails you 'a cup of tea, a bex and a good lie down' ?
  13. That's the one I remember too! Selina's @ Coogee Bay Hotel in the 80's . . . . ahhh the memories . . Found a live version on Spotify and of course it's in my play list now . . . . When youngest son heard it for the first time in the car, he looked at me and asked 'are they saying what I think they're saying?' "yep, that was how it was done at their live shows!" I responded. 🤣 😇
  14. Some bloody good advice right there. If your planning on some Luderick fishing, you’ll learn quickly about the ocean as you often need to fish low ledges. On the question of taking off your life jacket . .. why would you remove something that will keep you afloat when exhausted? Hope you get to travel in December.
  15. As always, a bloody good read waza! Thank you.
  16. Some of my thoughts . . . The most important thing is safety! The correct footwear for the type of rocks is important. Cleats are ideal Sydney sandstone, however are NOT the best choice for harder rocks like granite or volcanics. Wear lightweight clothing like t shirt and boardies, a windproof jacket can help keep you warm in cooler months. Tell someone where you are going and what time you'll be back. Check the forecast for weather, swell and tide. Then think about how that will impact what you are looking at for your 20mins observation of the rocks pre fishing! Google up Port Kembla rockfishing, I think it was Jan this year . . There was a good example of a guy who went fishing with a mate who said they'd be fine . . . . As others have said lifejackets are important but not the be all and end all. Though they are now mandatory in many LGA's. Stay safe and good luck in your fishing!
  17. I believe Richard is correct, it's within your LGA or max of 5km from your front door and to not go into a LGA of concern.
  18. Maybe its like Catnip for cats! Shame you can't bottle it!!! 🤣
  19. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA dave's feet HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Good onya waza!
  20. Thanks Waza for a smile on a miserable Sydney day. I can easily picture the ruckus with the occy and 2 knives!
  21. Bloody hell waza ...... Every story I feel like I’m there with you! Such terrific story telling. 👍👏
