  1. "the junction" is on the junction of the Nymboida and little Nymboida rivers you're probably thinking of "Georges junction" on the upper Macleay
  2. my lures are stored in tackle boxes according to target species or lure type, they're stored in the garage at home rather than in the boat otherwise my boat gets cluttered I take what I need for a trip according to target species and what rod setups I'm taking, 90% of the time I'll use 2 or 3 lures in a days fishing
  3. Chase bream on the deep structure Hopefully find some lical GTs in the upper estuary
  4. Definitely a pike eel, or slimy spawn of satan They're nasty things especially when they get loose on a boat
  5. That's awesome Donna, cod fishing os definitely not meant to be that easy
  6. With the recent success fishing the Namoi, Amy and I were keen to get out for an overnighter, we came up with a plan to try another new area this time the Gwydir river. The evolving weather forcast looked a bit crappy but we decided to do it as it was our only fishing option. We had found a new spot on the Gwydir river below Copeton thanks to a conversation with a NPWS ranger some months ago. The river was running a bit high from discharge from the dam and the rain was unpleasant but we'd come this far. It was a tough launch and conditions were far from ideal with really hard current. Amy soon came up with a plan to wedge herself in the branches and fan casts out The fish were quiet but the river definetly looked the goods I casted prome snag after prime snag for no result, then on a small tree out in the main current I got nailed by a solid yellabelly which didn't connect. With that morale boost I kept the casts firing and started to get a few follws from yellas, then after no ides hoe many casts on a protruding snag a hit finally connects, Amy was entertained watching me try a subdue a cod in crazy current Not the longest cod but in incredibly good condition. Inspired we kept the casts going, thecrain even settled a bit There was plenty of life especially jumping carp, I was getting a few more hits the key was finding a small tree with current ripping past it. Putting a cast on a very small tree in that scenario my lure was monstered on the drop again the current made fir a fun fight Another nice cod I gave him a quick measure, 55cm. Shortly after I was destroyed by a presumed xos yellabelly that I definitely intend yo go back and have another go at. Being wet and cold we pulled the pin and spent the night at copeton It was spectacular as always Although we didn't catch any fish there tye amount of life was incredible we saw literally 100's of eel tailed catties after dark. The trip home we fished a different section of the Gwydir but the god just didn't want to play. We'll definetly be heading out there again when the conditions improve We used 3/8oz chatterbaits with a 3 inch paddletail Cheers for reading Dave
  7. Wash them in fresh water after use and make sure they're completely dry before sealing them back in your tackle box I have a couple of empty sections in my tackle box for lures used whilst fishing so I don't spread salt through the whole lot
  8. you can vote the answer up or down, the answer with the most ups will be at the top of the thread
  9. I'm heading west chasing cod, the rivers are looking pretty good out there
  10. I just replace as necessary although I do stock up when there'sa good special, wouldn't even guess at a yearly figure My philosophy is Amy and I work hard, fishing is our passion so we have no issues with the $$$ spent on it
  11. Went past the house at the end of the road, didn't cover a massive distance
  12. My cutrent job I had a skype interview it was different Ironically I didn't bother wearing a shirt and I got the job
  13. Hybrids definitely exist between trout cod and Murray cod Apparently the same thing can happen between easties and murrays only much more likely, they're quite genetically different hence being seperate species, I'm guessing thousands of years ago they would have been the same fish
  14. I can personally testify to that
  15. Don't think it's a taipan, way to far south and colours are wrong, hard to tell but looks like a diamond python
  16. The easties are definitely a good looking fish Eastern cod are actually a seperate species that can'tsuccessfully breed with murrays, they have very subtle differences
  17. I was going to pick him up, he was just letting me know he didn't saction said idea
  18. First of all I'll chuck in an apology for my lack of fishing reports over the last couple of months, it's been a trying time with bad weather and covid every plan seems to have failed. I had bern planning an on foot cod trip to the Upper Namoi river for a few weeks but thr plans kept failing, this trip was no exception with no offsider to join me at Amy's suggestion I asked my (step) daughter Georgia to join me being a hiking lover (not a fisher) she was excited to join. Being a 3 1/2 hour drive (I know long for a day trip but it's what I do) we set off damn early Our destination was surprisingly easy to find, with the sun up we arrived at the locked gate (national park) we loaded our packs and got to hiking, not actually a long walk to the river on good track the river was looking good flowing hard but definitely fishable we wasted no time in getting casting Georgia isn't much of a fisher but she didn't take much convincing to have a go Didn't take long before a fush was landed The smallest cod I've caught to date, atleast the doughnut was broken We started moving along the river casting every likely spot we could find we were getting hits, finally one stuck on a slightly better fish a beautiful little cod, once Georgia saw the colours she had to catch one we walked the river through some very tough terrain the small cod were definetly on the chew with loads of miss hits and landing another miniscule model, finally again I hooked into another slightly better model this one came from some crazy water, we got most of our action from the smaller back waters only small fish but a cod is a cod A really beautiful looking river My last cod was a dark fish that came after clise to 20 casts on the same snag a beautifully marked fish, Georgia was determined to catch a cod, she casted and casted for no luck. I told her your first cod only comes when you've lost all hope and accept the doughnut 🍩. We reached pur ginal piece of river before turning back I sat retying a leader and enjoying the shade Georgia peppered the same snag with casts for nearly 20 minutes when she lets out a scream Couldn't wipe the smile off her face, it was even the fish of the day. We fished our way back but with the sun high the bite had slowed. On our walk back up the road the wildlife appeared for us A very angry bearded dragon And a beautifully marked sand monitor We headed home completely satisfied, can't beat making a plan, exploring new water and finding fish, worth the drive? Absolutely! Cheers for reading Dave
