  1. Definitely a bass, cracking fish regardless
  2. They won't let you tske fishing line with carry on Apparently it's a potential weapon
  3. Nice, Stewy is doing well with his lure making I still reckon you both should have jumped in🥶
  4. With the finally cleared up I hit the Hastings today for some bream action. The bite wasn't redhot but managed a few fish with some good quality bream Mixture of locations snag lined edges, rockbar, bridge pylons and oyster racks Hopefully as the water continues to clear the fishing will improve Did some filming, enjoy the video Cheers Dave
  5. Keep at it Mike The fact thst it's hard is what make success so much better
  6. My wife and I will be up there in October and definetly be landbased fishing I've been to Cairns once and fished freshwater Creek
  7. A quick report after a quick weekend at Copeton. Save a long drawn out tale of fruitless casting. Needless to say it was cold and tough, we fished 4 sessions with me 1 bite for 1 fish and Amy 4 bites for 0. We did a run up to Copeton gorge which was pretty spectacular. The 1 cod went 84cm was in incredible condition and took a 3/4oz chatterbait
  8. I've known a couple of fellas who haf outbacks they used to take offshore, they were happy with them
  9. that's the challenge, you could probably up it to 20lb braid and 30lb flurocarbon leader would be a reasonable happy medium you're always going to lose a few but at least you'll stand a better chance
  10. Bsit runner for high speed jigging? Wouldn't be a very good option you need a high geared reel or your arms will fall off after the first drop not to mention a kayak is not a very good option for jigging from. Go a basic overhead setup
  11. Good stuff guys, glad to see the big man getting amongst some fish
  12. As the title suggests we had another grind of a cod session. It started with unexpected mutual days off, so we headed off to the Namoi river only this time the bottom end of the national park. The place looked stunning as ever But the fish really played hard to get, we struggled all afternoon for a couple of bumps. finally when we went back to camp I was chatting to a fellow camper who was equally struggling I had a hit that stuck A small cod that atleast saved the doughnut, funny story but 2 casts later A hot bite of ant sized cod, we fished hard tgrough the evening but decided we were happy with what was caught. We were up early in the morning hoping for a miracle on our way out of the NP, it was definetly a beautiful morning Again the grind continued and when it was decided the trip was over, Amy's lure is smashed, the fish took off and straight away we called it for quality, and yes it was A beautiful 70cm fish in pristine condition definitely not what we were expecting, Amy smashed her pb Managed to get it on video, we apologise for any colourful language It was a tough trip but well worth it for that 1 fish Cheers for reading Dave
  13. ATC virtuous would have you covered for a reel I'd look at venom rods, they make a good quality popper stick
  14. Up in the fresh Hastings has finally cleared up
  15. A quick report for the end of bass season Amy and I did a last minute sign up for an end of season bass comp, the only issue we had 2 short fishing windows around work. The first session was a quick after work arvo only had an hour of light by tye tome we launched, I scored one fish for the session A 46cm tank, had me in first place overnight. We fished until dark but just couldn't pin anymore fish. Got out in the morning for day 2 with a pre work session, Some amazing weather Amy managed to put one on the scoreboard Not a big fish but still a lovely bass Again only one for the session, hopefully the next bass season will see better weather and plenty more fish Cheers for reading Dave
  16. A longer rod will put more movement on your plastic and lift it higher when you hop your plastic For bream subtle twitches tend to be better than the violent hops flathead are happy with I find a 7 to 7 2 to be a happy medium Between finesse action and cast distance
  17. 7"8 might be a bit long for effectively working bream plastics 7-7"2 would be a bit easier Raiders are a good option and tye squidgy rods are nice, also tackle tactics have some good rods out these days in the black mamba and taipan series
  18. I would suggest going to a kayak place and having a good look over each model I've seen a guy on YouTube using a reload in smallish freshwater rivers, didn't look ideal but probably the better balance you're going to find
  19. You can buy crayfish pellets from a petshop I used to substitute their diet with pieces of carrot, don't feed them meat or fish it'll just wreck your tank water Make sure the tank has a good lid, they love to escape Assuming they're common yabbies, be careful putting them in a pond they will breed and leave, they earned the name "cherax destructor" for a reason
  20. Another free day meant another cod trip, this one back to the Namoi where I'd had some recent success, so it was a 4am start with my daughter Georgia. 3.5 hours later we met Steve @Hill373737 at the NP entrance. We hit the river hoping for a repeat of last trips success, didn't take long to figure out this wasn't the case. The fishing was tough, tried surface, chatterbaits and spinnerbaits for not even a looker. Pulled out the secret weapon, a 5inch grub rigged weedless. Even my favourite cod lure was struggling but eventually I hooked up A tiny cod to break the doughnut. To cut a long painful story short we fished hard through some very brutal terrain, climbing boulders and wading through blade grass for not even a follow. Eventually the call was made to head back out on the return I decided to put a cast in on a small backwater pool we'd had success last trip. It's always a surprise when something actually pays off tye cod came from nowhere and smacked my soft plastic right in front of me, played hard too had to get down to the water to land him A beautiful cod to improve the mood He measured 58cm, a surprise from such a small pool And to top it off I did the same thing in the last pool before our walk to the car Not nearly as big but a nice fish to end the session. We didn't get home till late, ended uo being a very long day with only 3 fish landed, worth it, absolutely! Steve was a 10/10 bloke to fish with, hopefully I'll get the opportunity again soon Cheers for reading Dave
