  1. The idea of kayak fishing for monster fish is it's extreme, you have no weight or leverage so you're at the mercy of where the fish wants to swim, there's almost no margin for error especially when said beast is up near the yak, if a medium sized murray cod can near ake my kayak plain along imagine what a shark could do. You always need a plan for landing bigger fish, personally I'll shore land them for safety and believe me I learned this the hard way
  2. Bream 7/10 Mangrove jack 8/10 GT 8/10 Big eye trevally 9/10 Kingfish 10/10 Mullet 10/10 Bass 8/10 Murray cod 6/10 Barramundi 8/10 Flounder 2/10
  3. Mate, nothing you've written warrants an apology Have a good chat with Frank he's a wealth of knowledge and experience
  4. We've all been there mate I use 7 foot rods from my kayak all the time, although shorter rods are better for ease of use, as kingie said a 10-15kg would be ok but I wouldn't go any heavier It's amazing how much fun simple bread and butter type fish are from a yak, a big flathead is damn hard to land.
  5. The kind of drag pressures tgat warrant a 24+kg rod would likely roll a kayak especially in an up and down fight, unlike a boat, sitting in a kayak you have minimal leverage If you intend to target kings etc from a yak you'd be better off with a lighter rig-up and accept the occasional bust-off
  6. I'm with Frank, heavy rods and kayaks don't go together especially jigging or bottom bashing
  7. Reduce the size of the image, or try and describe said fish, I know most fish that come out of the Nambucca
  8. It was a bit of a LGB hotspot some years ago, people would live bait off there and spin Haven't heard anything from more recent years but doesn't mean it doesn't still happen
  9. I've got a 420 renegade, running a 50hp 4 stroke, it gets up and goes Handles chop pretty well comfortably fishes 3 people lure casting Easily launched retrieved el solo lobo
  10. Zman slim swim 2.5inch greasy prawn 1/16th jighead
  11. Good on you Andy, hope you get into them
  12. The numbers don't mean a lot in my opinion, I just go by how the rod feels with the lure
  13. Budget? I'm no expert Be looking at a 10000 size spin reel, if you're gonna go pe 8-10 probably a stella Or even an ATC vigour which are a load cheaper Rod wise one of the venom stickbait rodsyI wouldn't buy one without holding it first you want to make sure it's comfortable if you're running 15kg of drag
  14. Welcome, look forward to seeing your success on plastics, won't be long and you'll never use bait again
  15. With a convenient day off it was time gor another session up the Hastings this time Amy and Ben joined me. The tide was a lot higher than last time, the aim of the morning find some more trevs. The first drift was a little uneventful with a couple of small flathead being boated by each of us. As we came to some better bank the hits stared getting more serious and before long I was loaded on a decent fish. There was loads of weight which soon woke up with some serious drag screaming, after some solid runs my suspicions were confirmed A cracker of a GT to get the day going and finally a proper Hastings trev, went just shy of 50cm. Feeling more pumped all 3 of us really got the casts flying, plenty of hits but mostly small stuff, Amy put a wayward cast which tea bagged and got belted on the surface A nice bream on the tea bag. Next area was where the big GT busted me off last week and sure enough I hooked another this one fell off when he was circling on tge end of a brutal run, nevermind atleast 1 hit the boat. Not far along my lure gets nailed again followed by a solid run which turned out to be a half decent bream And Amy put a eater flathead in thr esky. Ben was having a bit of a struggke at this stage, finally he ended up with a solid hook-up and after a good tussle and big GT chasing it another good bream in the net Shortly after I made the call to head back downriver and seconds later Ben's onto a better fish we call a trev straight away A nice big-eye that really performed for it's size. We shot downriver for Amy to finish our session with another good bream that fought like a trev all the fish really went hard, we lost count of flatties and bream, only kept the one the conditions in the lower river were ridiculously rough heading back to the ramp so we had a nice soaking to finish off cheers for reading Dave

  18. I'm not a big fish eater, I rate whiting, pearl perch, pigfish, nannigai and pretty much all lutjanids as pretty good. Not a fan of flathead, bream or snapper, I ate a kelpfish once I rate it at -22/10
  19. Nice flattie for the big man, good on ya Bob for putting him onto some fish
