  1. Good on you all for getting into it, Ozzybass! Shame about the weather and other anglers making it difficult. Cheers, Wellzy
  2. Went fishing with the family at Lake Lyell on Sunday, hoping for my first trout. Cast out a line with powerbait and worms, and flicked SPs for a while. After a dropped fish and a few missed strikes, I'd decided to drop the SPs. Too many snags and not enough hookups! About halfway through the morning, my brother caught his first trout - 49cm and very skinny. Not long afterwards I caught my first redfin! The weather was beautiful, and I was stripping layers all morning due to the warmth. A good day on the water, and another fish off the list for both my brother and I! Cheers, Wellzy
  3. Good on you Scratchie! Whiting are one of my favourite table fish. Good to see your got your boat up and running! Cheers, Wellzy
  4. The knot could be causing it. However, you can also adjust the lure itself to correct it! It's actually mentioned in one of the articles on Fishraider, and was a lot of help to me. http://www.fishraider.com.au/article/tuning-minnow-lures/ Cheers, Wellzy
  5. The practical only gives basic boat driving experience (I did it 12 months ago when I got my boat license). I did it on stillwater (Nepean River) and it was only navigation in regards to red and green markers, and how to drive a boat. I don't know how long it's been available though.
  6. The practical isn't a mandatory section of the licensing - You have two options. 1) Complete the practical "assessment" with a maritime licensing body. 2) Complete a logbook with someone who has held their boat license for 3 years. You may have leniency having previously had your license, but I'm not sure. You'd have to call a licensing body and ask them directly, I think. Cheers, Wellzy
  7. Dave you're a champ - I'm always envious of your successful reports of spinning for bream. Kudos for writing an article for Fishraider! Cheers, Wellzy
  8. I'm waiting for the Kato Trekking bag to go on sale, it has hardened plastic zippers. I'll probably still rinse them just to be safe.
  9. Spot on, Campr. For SPs I use a lure wallet, with a binder full of ziplock bags for my plastics. The other side of the lure wallet has a small compartmented container for hardbodies. Cheers, Wellzy
  10. Hi SaltyMatt, You can catch a lot of the more common estuary fish (Bream, trevally, leatherjacket) at just about any ferry wharf in Sydney Harbour. Pick a wharf and have a crack! Cheers, Wellzy
  11. Good stuff! I rate trevally highly as a table fish, they make great sashimi. Cheers, Wellzy
  12. Hey mate, welcome to Fishraider! I've moved your post into Fishing Chat. Check out the search function to see past reports in Illawarra! Cheers, Wellzy

    FOOTY

I agree completely. On Paper NSW had a better side, but they didn't bring the required attitude with them onto the field. QLD won because they wanted it so much more.
  14. Hey mate, With the Go-Pro footage it may be easier to upload the video/s to Youtube and then link the videos here! Looking forward to seeing pics and vids of your trip, it sounds amazing! Cheers, Wellzy
  15. A few people have posted this same bag, which I'm keeping an eye on! Thanks Cheers, Wellzy
  16. Hey raiders! For the bass anglers out there, is anyone looking at getting any? They certainly look the goods, I'm considering dropping the money for a few! Cheers, Wellzy
  17. I think it depends where you're fishing, and whether you're aiming for a target species. I like to use a mix in the same place, as sometimes fish don't always want the same thing. Bottom bashing I'd say bait, but recently I've been using an SP on one of my droppers. So again, a mix. Cheers, Wellzy
  18. I agree with both points here, Avoca is good for short rods. I bought a Starlo Jungle Stix for $90 (9ft, 2-piece graphite) and it's fantastic. Cheers, Wellzy
  19. I think cooking was the least I could do, considering the amount I learned in such a short space of time!
  20. I'm currently looking at backpacks with tray-box storage. They seem like a good way to lug around a lot of gear (and with space for food+drink), without wearing out one arm using single-shoulder bags or boxes. Shimano has one that looks really nice for about $115. Edit: Jeff, that Shimano bag is the one I'm looking at currently!
  21. Hey Raiders! I'm on the shop for a new tackle bag or box, as mine is stuffed. The latch no longer holds on the tackle box, and I was due for an upgrade anyway. My current box is a "starter pack" jarvis walker box. Any recommendations on a tackle box or bag to hold a mix of terminal tackle, sinkers, SPs, jigheads, lures etc? Hoping to spend less than $100, but willing to go to $150 for something quality that will last. Cheers, Wellzy
  22. Thanks guys! Was great to meet you two Cheers, Wellzy
  23. I figured as much, judging by his confidence. When I asked what EPs looked like, he said "I'll show you in a minute, when you catch one!" Haha. Cheers, Wellzy
