  1. I'll be on the water, but I'll be in a boat. May see you guys!
  2. I figured as much in regard to the rig drawn, but I had heard it mentioned before. I guess I'll take a mix of baits and plastics, and try a few different things to see what works on the day! Cheers, Wellzy
  3. Has anyone used this technique with success? I've heard that it's good for drifting for flathead, as the drift gets the action of the SPs working well. If so, how do you rig it? Do you have the sinker on the bottom as normal, and SP on the lowest hook (and bait the others)? Alternatively, would the SP right at the bottom and sinker on the lowest dropper loop be more effective? (as shown in drawing) Cheers, Wellzy
  4. Yeah that's what I've been hearing. They are there, but not yet in the numbers like this time last year. Do they show up in numbers in other areas of Cowan, like Coal&Candle? Cheers, Wellzy
  5. Hey raiders, I'm heading to the Hawkes' overnight in a few weeks chasing the toothy buggers. Does anyone know if they've made it up into waratah and jerusalem bays in numbers yet? If not, is there a better option of location to get after them? I went out three times last year for only 2 hairies, so I want to be where they are to maximise my chances of boating a few. Cheers, Wellzy
  6. When I use chicken for bait, sometimes the breast is too soft and doesn't hold well. I've recently started using chicken thigh, as the meat is consistently tougher than breast. Just food for thought! Cheers, Wellzy
  7. Unfortunately Savit, that's not true. However the QLD outbreak is what prompted the DPIs response: "An outbreak of White Spot Disease in farmed prawns in South East Queensland is a reminder to people fishing in Australia’s waters not to use prawns meant for human consumption as bait. Prawns purchased from supermarkets and other food outlets could spread the virus." Cheers, Wellzy
  8. You know the drill, raiders, fishing tours/charters by PM. Cheers, Wellzy
  9. Some would say they're a 'sucker' for a feed... Cheers, Wellzy
  10. Great catch Donna! And a nice jew as bycatch for stewy too Cheers, Wellzy
  11. I still need to christen my fly rod... Better get some weed flies! Good stuff, mate. Cheers, Wellzy
  12. I was out today and saw a couple whales and a seal too! The whales came so close and appeared so suddenly we lost gear from them! Good feed there, too. Cheers, Wellzy
  13. Hey mate, have a read here: Cheers, Wellzy
  14. I'm not 100% about the functionality of transducers, but will having the unit move around a little create problems with the readings? Not sure about reattaching but maybe you could allow it a bit of play to swivel up and down on the mounting to alleviate pressure on the weak point - ie loosening the bolt slightly and adding a second 'lock' nut to prevent the bracket unscrewing itself. Cheers, Wellzy
  15. Blaxland I have a Sonic Pro as well, but instead of a Sedona I paired it with a Sienna. Mike, if you want something a bit longer that you can also use to spin off the rocks, I'd look at a Starlo Jungle Stix. It's a 9', 60g cast weight and great light spin gear. I paired that with a 4000 Sienna with 10lb J-braid. Cheers, Wellzy
  16. If it's the store I think it is, I got my Lowrance Hook 4x from there for the yak. Great prices. Cheers, Wellzy

What a whooping! Up the blues!
  18. Oldfella, For the most part, they only eat weed. However during the warmer months their diet does extend to some meats, I've caught a few on live nippers and peeled prawns.
  19. That weather is absolutely magic! You're getting better at photography too I can't say it enough - salmon are so much fun on light gear! Cheers, Wellzy
  20. I'm hoping to have the extra money someday to get a wicked weasel... It'd be my bass rod too! Good choice. Cheers, Wellzy
  21. They're great fun mate! I've caught a few near Wollongong on 8lb off the rocks. Awesome fighting fish, shame they're no good to eat Cheers, Wellzy
  22. He bought a hobie, I'm sure a few hundred extra is no biggie! Lungfai has a good question, and another to add to it - Do you want something that's purely a sounder unit, or a sounder+GPS?
  23. The club I'm in is also doing an overnight, 17th-18th of June. Cheers, Wellzy
  24. Hi mate, If you're willing to travel a bit, the rocks down Wollongong and Shellharbour area are still producing pelagics. What species are you aiming for? I'm sure that if you're aiming for bread-and-butter species like bream and flathead you'd pick them up in the harbour. Some of the overpopulated landbased spots (Pier 2 springs to mind) can produce pelagics if you can get past the human traffic! Beaches also produce whiting, bream, flathead, tailor, salmon etc. Cheers, Wellzy
  25. A first-time Jewfish, victory tastes so much sweeter! How does one apply for a boat position? Cheers, Wellzy
