  1. I use a spider hitch ..works for me..rick
  2. pull your carbies off take bowl off and clean out gunk build up in there you will have crap in there blocking main jet when the flow increases when you back off they drop back to bottom of bowl..had same trouble with my 60yammie took all three carbs off cleaned them put water separator filter on and havnt prob since...unleaded fuel leaves deposits when it dries out...just use some carby cleaner and spray thru the ports in your carbs while apart..rick
  3. there is no exact drag setting its all about feel..don't stroke and wind like crazy just back the drag off and try to lead them with slow deliberate rod movements .that's why its called softly softly..rick
  4. not disrespecting tinnies but ive fished all my life and been in numerous alloy boats..my mates own them and I fish in them..but.i have never found one that rides as good as same size glass hull..stessl.amm.tabs.barcrusher trailcraft.blahblah.people buy glass or alloy to suit their needs don't let me influence you I was just making a snide comment on tinnies as I have never heard of one being "comfy'...rick
  5. there are two ways to fight kings..one is fish heavy and go for broke ..usual outcome is they give you more than you give them...gone..second is the softly softly technique..you let them run out wider then give them heaps till they come closer then repeat and backoff let them run out again when out over sand or away from rocks belt it to them again then go softly on them when in close..sometimes it works sometimes not...ive landed 18kg king off wybung on 6kg with this method and been dusted by pups on 24kg ...no 4 baitholders arnt exactly ideal for kings so I would be lookin at upgrading your tackle before next encounter..rick
  6. im with you Fabian and try to do all my own maintenance..i begrudge paying $60/$75 per hr or more when I can do it myself..my boat was stolen by my ex and I bought it back a few months ago..in the time it was sitting the steering froze so I just fixed that basically same as your post I then bought second hand trailer and reconfigured all rollers to suit and balanced trailer and boat the trailer guy wanted to charge me $550 to do this..i replace spark plugs pull carbies apart and clean them..ive had boats all my life and wouldn't be able to afford one if I had to pay for any or all work to be done by so called proffesionals..so like you and many others il keep doing everything I can do myself..a big thank you for all the effort you put into these posts..congrats..rick
  7. a dry ride an comfy sounds like you need a glass boat not a bang bang..rick
  8. cut hem open and cut into strips rather than rings..use a sharp knife and slash lightly into the strips in a cross pattern then they cook easier and roll up like shop bought ones..i soake mine in a container overnight in a milk and garlic mixture..then crumb and fry...there is a product called crumb in one that's easy and tastes good..rick
  9. just curious marks1984.have you any real knowledge of this creek or is this just speculation...at least scratchie actually has been there..rick
  10. nice work great fun great feed..rick
  11. centrepins are the most controllable reel for this style of fishing..being able to roll spool in or out by fingers keeps better control of line while drifting freely..good quality reels spin very freely...I can lay a 40mtr cast on the rocks and because of pendulum action I have fewer tangles than sidecast or threadline...rick
  12. thers guys catchin jew on Stockton all the time..i spoke to them and they are only using livies with the slide rigs..the livies are hooked in back near tail and slipped into surf on slide rig that way they swim out to the end of line..dead baits are harder and work better on a steep beach so you have some angle on the line to work with..hope this helps..rick
  13. we catch them on the farm reef off Swansea..90mtrs..newcastle harbor has heaps and they catch plenty in Townsville some years.so they do some travelling...rick
  14. didn't get a chance this wknd..work funerals mothers day..too many commitments..next wknds my comp week so will be busting to get up there..long range forecast looks dubious so il keep my eye on it during week..cheers rick
  15. ooohhhh yyeeeaaahhh luv it..best time to be sittin in the boat with good mate beer in hand music playin an drags singin..doesn't get better than that neil..cheers ..rick
  16. steering cables lay coiled in a lot of transoms and end up rusting an seizing ..I replaced mine not long ago and its easier than stuffing round trying to free them up when they are seizing.. replacing is easy non expensive and gets you back on the water quicker..rick
  17. nice one fab .I just done mine recently..good info for those that don't know..keep up the good work..rick
  18. hope some of the boys take you for a fish neil..if I wasn't so busy workin id come down to the big smoke and take you for a run good luck bud..rick
  19. I run two hds5 lowrance..very happy..rick
  20. if using half pillies try the half hitch round the tail or with heads I thread the hook thru the eye socket twice then pin the hook into the back of the pillie..they stay on pretty good that way..if salting break block apart then wrap ten pillies in newspaper with salt and leave in bottom of fridge for 48hrs then freeze..they should be tuff then..rick
  21. nice one mate ..never get sick of those blue spots..luv em..rick
