  1. Newcastle harbor fires for jew when you get sth busta like this..you wont get a bite till the wind starts howling then its game on..rick
  2. 47.5 cm 2.3kg released..not long but very high very wide..we have caught heaps bigger there but just like to have a dangle every now and then just to keep in touch....our biggest released was 63cm I weighed a 58 that was 3.65 gutted gilled.bigger than the old record of 8lb4oz..our two biggest would have nudged 10 .5 lb..there still there so I better get some more beers hahaha
  3. My mate and I thought we would have a fish while we had a couple of beers and chatted only one bream but not too bad t just over 47 cm
  4. gotta go get more snapper next week..wanna go chase cod again when river drops ouch that bug hurts when it bites hahaha
  5. seen them wedge in and cant get em out..at the replacement price I wouldn't risk one..i dive a lot and have recovered a few of these over the last couple of years..on sand and gravel they are fine but I wouldn't use one on heavy reef..check my earlier foto these cost bugger all to make.work unreal.and pull out easy..lot cheaper than a sarca..rick
  6. was there any talk from up the bay..rick
  7. I would like to jump in and thank fab1 for all the time and effort put into a brilliant series of how tos for anybody interested in buying a boat..im a bit of an old salt lol but there was some very interesting points made in this well presented series ..for any raiders out there thinking of purchasing a second hand boat I would recommend reading thru all of this series as there are so many things to look for..congrats fab on your great work...rick
  8. good stuff hope the weather misses you..enjoy the boating world your in some great territory up there..rick
  9. ssoooo the cod downstream from your ramp havnt been hit then neil ?????.....sounds like a trip south coming up hahaha..rick
  10. tie it safe mate that weather doesn't look good up there..rick
  11. I don't think fab1 is bagging all tradies.just stating that the only people to get a view of said boat were tradies..im a fencing contractor and im in new peoples yards a couple of times a week..if I was a Lowie I would have a yard full of goodies that cant be seen from the street..the boat may not have been used for ages so you just don't know wether someone has been eyeing it off for a while..my next door neighbours boat was stolen from in front of our houses and not a sound was heard .his dogs and ours never made a sound..how do you hookup a 5,5mtr cat on doubles and tow it away silently ????. back to the poly .whoever stole it knew it was there and knew how to get it out..doesn't matter what they do they are still low thieving scumbags...rick
  12. congrats dude..another one hooked on the greenfish..they are awesome fish..i feel your frustration with hits n misses we had the same last week..hope you can give the bass a blast we are mud city at moment..rick
  13. the anchor in foto can be made with two pieces of pipe one in the other for weight or solid bar .after spending five yrs pro handlining up the nth coast we lost one anchor..thats a lot of drops on reef with 99.9percent recovery rate..i wouldn't risk a sarca..mine cost bout six bucks with shackles..if they get caught up and you give them a pull from different angles the cable tie breaks and they come out nose first cable tie 30 cents...rick
  14. we have been using anchors with short solid spikes similar to a mooloolaba pick for many years .havnt lost an anchor in five yrs..we attach the chain to the front of anchor then lay chain along pipe or bar depending on build then cable tie chain to back of anchor..we use ball and clip and drive over and past anchor till ball raises it and hits the chain then bounces..if anchor gets stuck cable ties break then anchor is pulled out by the front or nose of anchor..i will put fotos up tomorrow..easiest way of retrieving.do it all from inside boat no goin out to the bow or thru hatch or screen anchor rope is tied with loop to bridle rope attached to bow..rick
  15. for anyone considering fishing inland rivers BOM have great charts with real time river heights updated every few hrs ..I use north west and it gives all rivers in new England...rick
  16. with all this rain I am lucky I went chasin cod last weekend not this one..where we fished last week the water level is up .9 of a meter and would be virtually unfishable with water that resembles a chocolate milkshake..sometimes you get lucky with good timing..rick
  17. many long hours standing casting lures at longtails cobes and Spanish up the coast over thirty years taught us how to cast long distances to get longer lure in water time..in the old days we all used fsu 4120 and fsu5120 rods with mark 4 tritons after we blew up all our seascapes..the old test for us with 100/140gr home made lures was 120 mtrs with 20lb nylon..a small tip I have found for those trying to throw distance of the rocks for snapper is to keep your trace to your bait short as the longer it is the more it flails around..we had a guy that was adamant that he could outdistance our o/heads with his alvey and 12 footer so we lined up on the try line at local footy oval both with 4oz snapper leads 20lb line he could just make 100mtrs I was punchin over back fence..settled that debate..i have a range of reels im going to test in the next few days..still have my faithful 5120..il see how far I can get cheers for bringing back the memories..rick
  18. do any of you avid luremakers know where I can get my hands on a half red half black skirt to suit med magnum hollowpoint size heads..tried evertwhere local for no results..rick
  19. had a couple of 70 n85s push key in but listen if choke solenoid is throwin butterflys shut..then lift hand throttle up and down while turning key like pumping an accelerator..turn key for up to twenty or thirty secs if needed..3/4 secs not long enough..rick
  20. Another weird one from last week chasin flatties
  21. cheers neil...we had a great time..i was soaking wet till lunchtime sat but didn't care as the hits misses and hookups were unreal..fri nite was so much fun but frustrating with high percentage of misses..we cant crack a big fish in this river yet as we fish the gorge and slow water above..the property I have has over 20km of river with lots more holes to explore..lots of shallows then a hole or two..we are planning a yak attack next time the river is up a bit more than it is now...the amount of small fish is encouraging with breeding seeming to be going well .also no carp yeeehhaaa..clear water exciting follows flashes and unseen hookups make for a great experience...tight lines mate ..rick
  22. I own three spinfishers and they have caught that many fish its not funny...they are strong.reliable .smooth drags.and yours being an old model they are the best...mine get used for everything from beach to rock spinning and floaters for snapper..rick
  23. they are special fish and I feel privileged to catch so many....when you can stand on a rock ten feet up and watch them home in on your lure from fifteen feet away its awesome..next trip we are going to try and video some fish cant wait..rick
  24. nice to break your hodoo...its worth the waiting..just think of all the money wasted on them silly lookin lures..livies rule..rick
