  1. I love the 3" and 4" power minnow in pearl watermelon colour,

I have to agree there, although my flattie spinning with sp's is still in its early stages have tried out fair few different types/brands.So far have had most success with 3" power minnows in pearl blue color.

Oh well i thought, the dredging could have one of 2 effects, either shut down the fish or stir up some food.

As it turned out it was a bit of both.

The dredge was working back and forth fairly slowly,so i started to burley lightly with a mixture of bread, chicken pellets(with a touch of dry cat food).Within minutes had a mixture of small whiting and small mullet(i think) interested.I was casting lightly waited nippers just behind them in the hope something bigger would turn up,but no luck.

At around 8 oclock the dredge moved off torwards the entrance, within minutes i started to catch numerous small whiting all just under legal(came close with this one at 25cm.Quick photo and returned.),but just couldnt hook any bigger.

Shortly after that a group of blokes turned up,and i had a friendly chat with one of them, that came to see if i had any luck. They had been fishing over to the far right(across the inlet)and had manage a couple of legal bream. They set up about 30M away from me to try their luck, and wouldnt you know it one of them hooked a nice size flounder(32cm).They asked if it was edible and if it was legal size, and to my suprise when i answered yes they than gave me the fish  .

Not much else was caught after that(i managed a few more small whiting)and they managed a small flatty.Just before 10am the dredge came back,i left shortly after.

All in all it was a good day, beautiful sunny morning,a few fish, some good blokes and a feed of fresh flounder.

    Father-in-laws boat on the water.

  6. Its been a few years, but used to have natives for a while.Had a pair of bass a barra and a archer fish in a 4ft tank for atleast a 18months(now have tropicals because the kids like the colors). At the same time my brother in law had a tank set up with a barra approx 20-25cm long.

we were breeding feeder guppies aswell for food for both tanks, you should be able to tell when the guppies are pregnant fairly easy, due to swelling of bellly.

I know this may sound wrong to every thing you normally do,but i have had fish(on and off)for the last 20 years and i have never worried about doing regular water changes EVER.I am sure fish adjust to their enviroment.I have a pair of angel fish that regulary breed, and the male is one of the biggest angels i have ever seen, and i do nothing special to them at all.I have not done a water change in the last year atleast.

Gazza,as far as i know and have observed they will only grow as big as there surroundings let them.So they should not out grow your tank in a hurry.Start with a small barra and then you should have atleast a few years of enjoyment from them.

  7. Well done on getting your first australian bass johnno.

I still remember my first,it came from a secret spot :tease: in my local area. I was fishing a shallow diver from the bank and actually saw the fish follow it and then just hammer the lure from below. I was hooked on them from that day on.

    well done

  8. theres a fish shop behind ingleburn pub well there used to be! hes right into his cichlids and has helped a friend of mine breed many types go have a chat!

I live in the area, that bloke has gone now. They moved to around the front of the pub for a while, there is a pet shop behind the pub now(but with different people)I will ask my brother-in-law what his secret is.He has 3 tanks set up with cichlids, many frontosa that breed beyond belief,He always has numerous young(most of his stock came from Ingleburn oringinally). He has that many at times he gives them away.

I am thinking of getting some more self as i have tropical fish at the moment(angels, tetras etc)and just feel like a change.I will try to pry some secrets off the brother-in-law and let you know.
