  1. You cannot really sound squid as they generally hang tight to structure and usually only leave it to strike a jig or at best follow it. Squidding form boat is a whole different mission compared to land. At night they do move around a lot more so you could sound them by playing with the sounders sensitivity but I find it not usually worth it from the boat I like 2 rods, one has 2-3 jigs on it just hanging over the side and the other rods my working rod, I like to drift around and squid normally
  2. To save using a sinker use a heap of snap swivels. You can buy these squid jig snaps, put 2 or 3 of them on and it makes a 1.5 jig sink like a anchor
  3. A really dirty trick that works at most jettys in the hacking is as follows, throw on a 1.8-2.2 sized jig and cast out the depth of the water, if the waters 4 meters deep cast out 4 meters and then do absolutely nothing. The jig will slowly arch down until it’s directly below your rod tip and just above the sea floor let it sit stationary and occasional vibrate the rod. If nothing takes the jig, cast out and jig normally before doing what I said above again. If you hook a squid using that ‘at the feet method’ just keep doing it till you get none then cast out and ‘bring the squid in’. This works almost to well if there’s 50 people on the jetty bringing in the squid for you. why this works I have no idea but it seems when they follow the jig in and the jig is recasted, they’ll hang around the jetty for awhile & this works well in the hacking as most jetty’s have lights which bring in baitfish and also good depth which keep the squid around. some nights the squid are really aggressive which means generally squidding like a normal human works fine, but on the nights they are very picky and not overly interested this tends to work wonders. jig color at night is useless unless you fish with a light like I do or under a wharf with light, but more importantly jigs that glow different, weather it’s patterns or jig glow Color’s work better then the overerall jig color. The jig I’ve been doing well with in the hacking is brown and black, glows a bright electric blue and have black non glow spots on it
  4. well, quite the eye opener this is. Ive had a few ticks before but never knew about MMA. I couldn't survive without beef, lamb, etc
  5. recovery's kicking along alright besides me left shoulder which is still... yeah I'm going to amputate it. got a single blister about the size of a 5c coin on my shoulder surrounded by a bunch of much smaller ones. looks like Uluru if id be honest & the temptation to poke it is killing me more than the sunburn itself. My first serious sunburn, i think. I know i had one as a kid on my lower back digging a giant hole as a kid at kurnell and my shirt wasnt covering that section and i got a itch so unbearable its comparable to any medevial torture. My aunt was telling a story when she was up at yamba as a kid she got a sunburn so bad on her back, her whole back was one blister. i "usually" do aswell, but first time out in a long while, guess i just forgot how bad the sun can be. ill get revenge on that ball of gas one day.
  6. hope all is well, even on the mental side of things where one may be afraid to drive again. ute looks like its in half decent condition. hopefully the subframe isnt bent

  9. nice haul there. 2 and a half bonito is pretty good, presume youll salt them down?
  10. Should’ve thrown a hook out! Sight fishing at its best. Solid bag of whiting too. plenty of sharks about, I was only speaking to a bloke down at Wally’s who catches them regularly on the national park side if the hacking and audly
  11. Well I took the kayak out yesterday to hit up the flats at gunnamatta. Left my ‘sunscreen’ at home which is basically a very thin jacket. ‘I’ll be fine, it’s cloudy’. Well fast forward 24hrs and me arms are tender as all hell and had a case of ‘sun poisoning’ this morning which included chucking my guts out and dizzyness sun protection lads, use it. If you forget it get it. Dosnt help when your skin is the same colour as the message box I’m writing this in ether. and no, I didn’t catch anything worthwhile which makes this even worse. I don’t use sunscreen as it makes me rash up so long clothing it is. probably more important is a set of good Sunnys which I always have nearby
  12. send over a a hot coal instead
  13. bummer. thats fishin though. when i fish there from the yak i like to drop an anchor and throw out a big burley trail. ive been keen as to get out on the yak but would only do it during the weekdays when boat traffics down.
  14. good bag there mate, haven't heard much with kings inside the hacking yet. plenty of squid about though
  15. Awesome way to spend some time of work. Love the jacks, I’d also like to catch one one day. Thanks for the read
  16. some very good greenies there, you'll be making yowie hungry.
  17. If she likes multi day beach fishing sessions sure thing let’s swap
  18. Forgot about the trailer needed to cart all that crap, possible you’d need a kenworth. as for myself, it depends where and how long I’m going for. If it’s a local trip in the bay or river I’d take a rod or two, a chair, a bottle of water all my fishing tackle, bait and sometimes a bait esky and rod holders longer multi day trips I’d take the entire house with me, a swag, the swags stretcher, blankets, meat, bbq, coal, clothes, 3-4 rods, a fridge, a table, lights, battery’s, munchies, cases of water
  19. although outside you're budget, i have the oztent king kokoda chair. had it for nearly 5 years, on sand, in the pissing rain and salt and its near brand new. Its by far the most comfortable chair i have ever used. weighs like 5 kgs and 150kg rating and most importantly has a insulated stubby holder
