  1. well played again! when theirs no kings, plenty of bass still around
  2. i call cheats on the whiting! its a cm past the 0 mark hahah Good fish neverless. Quite surprising about trags though, a very intresting catch.
  3. quite a mission for me as i'm yet to even leave nsw never alone the country yeah fuel will be a interesting one, i know its quite abit expensive compared to the city. sent you a pm! wonder what you mean by never leaving smokey bay? sounds like a good thing and it'll beat sh*tney anyday! I dont even intent on stopping in any city, had enough of sydney as it is! Anyway, never heard of petrol spy, very handy site ill be defently using! cheers. anyay upon doing some further research (and being lazy to include in original post as i got bored from writing) it seems you cannot just turn up and throw a line in on dogfence beach, you have to pay $30pp per night which is pretty absurb. I wonder how many people actually pay that or if it only applies to the few camp grounds along the beach area. I don't really intend on staying in a designated camp ground as it'll be too much effort going back and fourth between the camp grounds and fishing gutters. I'd prefer to find a gutter, drop a swag & fish it for a night before packing up and possibly moving to a new one the following day if the fishing's average. I haven't looked too much into other beaches yet but i wouldn't be surprised if the government found some way to corporatise them under some silly excuse.
  4. g day raiders, I've been itching to get out for a serious trip & with covid now mostly (hopefully gone) the south Australia trip i had planned years back will probably be on the cards again. I plan on heading down there over the course of a couple days later in the year around mid November hopefully. If i had a 4wd id be heading down there right now. Having never left NSW/ACT, or the country it'll be defiantly a monster trip & require alot of preparation. I got all the fishing gear id need with a general plan of hopping from town to town over the course of a couple weeks, the issue is where to start? there so much damn good fishing down there its hard to even find a starting location! the basic plan i have now is start at ether smoky bay or cednua and spend a day or two (living out of the car) fishing local jettys / beaches for salmon, squid, king George whiting & other bread n butter species to both acquire some fresh bait and tick off some new species that aren't available in nsw. Id then move on to flowers bay to fish the jetty for squid & KGW & possibly the nearby beaches for jew, salmon and possibly a cheeky bronzie as i know they are giant down there. Id then move on towards dog fence beach where i intend to spend about a week with the primary goal of pulling in a XL jew. Id then drive part way across the nullaboar just to see it before pulling a u-turn and heading back with the possibility of a cheeky fish if i can be bothered. I know the areas are stupidly remove & i do plan on bringing back up fuel, tools, car parts, recovery gear & plenty of food, water & more importantly bait! I'm prepared for the trip to be a solo one as none of my mates seem to keen on such a long trip which is fine. Are there any locals or even previous visitors to the far west cost of south Australia who may have some previous insights, previous mistakes they've since learned from or any recommendations to what to expect or even spots
  5. is it safe to say bob's boat has caught every bass in the river twice over now? yet again, awesome trip out!
  6. nice varity of fish, mullet would make good bait strips
  7. awesome session out, the 2 for one deal is a deal of a lifetime!
  8. 2022 is drawing to a close, all so quickly, so with that being the case, whats the best fish you've caught in the last 12 months & why? For me personally it would be a 1.1m jew i caught up off the beach & the reasoning for it was it was already off previous successful Georges river trips which yielded 80cm to 1m jew after i've finally cracked the code and developed my own tatic to chasing them. What makes this fish even more special for me is it was my first ever beach jew and keeping tight to my plan which was burley and constant movement between various beach structure as the tides shifted. my one and only fishing goal for 23 would be a meter king from ether botany bay or port hacking.
  9. plenty of beachs between stanwell and Wollongong, from all of them you can expect dart, tailor, flathead, whiting, bream and the occasional jew & cod if you fishing closer to the rocky headlands. For calmer areas you can try bundeena ferry wharf, jibbon beach & various areas around mainbar. You can catch bream, flathead, whiting, small snapper & the occasional tailor, salmon and if you got a squid jig, squid along bundeena ferry wharf and jibbion beach. Mainbar is productive for mostly whiting, flathead and bream, but you will get salmon, tailor & kingfish cruising he flats at times

    Bate Bay

Wow, what a gummy, would’ve been a fun fight and a surprise. Never heard of them being that big in Sydney. Biggest I caught was 1.3 at bundeena wharf.
  11. finally, now the wait for them to come in and populate the inshore areas
  12. yeah all among the moored boats there yakkas and occasionally slimys
  13. i catch them among the moored boats in lillipilli. burley hard and theyll come. Yakkas have been quiet as of late though but i have seen them at Yowie and Cronulla ferry wharvs rather constantly
  14. unlucky with the quiet fishing, but you atleast caught something.
  15. Have heard of decent stuff comming from the piers. I personally avoid them due to that spot attracting the worst kind of people at times. Not sure if the kings are taking livies yet but theres only one way to find out! yeah i haven't caught a cali in a while ether. all bait sized arrows with 2 larger ones which ill probably strip up.
  16. Yeah, more wind unfortunately. Consistent southerly's right though till Tuesday. It is what it is. Hopefully no one dose anything to silly and risk themselves & others.
  17. Done abit of bait gathering in the hacking for future king & jew fishing trips. Much better then spending 55$/kg for hawksbury or 45/kg for southern calis. They have been in pretty sizeable numbers and all the jetty's have been pretty clean from ink stains so it seems no ones been out ether. I have been out for jew for only 1 soapie and a mixture of bream 25-30cm, 50cm flathead and pan sized rays A quick rundown of the last few days is as goes. Sunday - Only 1 squid Monday - 9 squid in 45 minutes left them biting as I had work the following day Tuesday - 5 squid in about an hour and a half. Mate caught 2 I got 3 Last night - 29 squid split across 3 of us from 9 - 11pm Spots have been a mixture of Cronulla ferry wharf, Yowie & wallys wharf. "secret" squid spots have been rather quiet still.
  18. Nice few bass there mate, the lucky banana serves you well again. Good job
  19. Did well this time with a good mix of fish. Weather was amazing today.
  20. cracks around the seat area has been a common issue in older hobies, look for general excessive scratches on the underside, if its beat up you'll know the previous owner didn't care about it & just dragged it around. The scupper holes in the rear behind the seat has also been a common for cracks. The drives are pretty durable but I have seen the most common issue on them is the plastic holes that keep the foot pedal in place and allow you to change the position of the pedal depending on leg length etc can wear out which may cause the foot pedal to slip to the next size down. Besides that look for the usual bent fin rods if it isn't kick up fins, rust and if it runs smoothly. If the drive isn't turbo fins id highly recommend upgrading them.
  21. great few fish mate, sucks about the pests. Giving them that "spare hook" quickly turns into got a spare sinker, swivel, leader and before you know it they want your car haha.
  22. so cute! A trip out is always a good one, even with a little pup. good stuff.
  23. haha its always like that! Ive had so many times where id take a newbie squidding & id catch sweet old nothing while the newbie would pull in 2+ squid just dangling the jig over the side of the wharf! Where'd you fish? by the looks of the sand northwest arm
  24. i was drifting/ anchored once the current got strong between alfreds point bridge and mickeys point with some squid and Hawksbury prawns, Squid caught nothing, everything was on prawns. they are great sized too. Do you keep the shells or just turf them away? I haven't really fished the hacking much recently, mostly the Georges for jew & bream. Ill be back there soon for hopefully a king or two. Spiro sells his salted pillies $13/kg, 1kg bags iqf $10 and 2kg blocks for $15. I'm usually the ones who salt the things & sometimes bottle up the left over juices into a plastic bottle and mix with bread for a awesome burley.
