  1. Yeah I can definitely see the attraction of one, but can also see how impractical it can be. I know if I had one, the bbq would be coming along lol. But for what I want really not practical. It's good your enjoying yours though..here's my main problems with it, due to shoulder injuries, I won't be able to pick it up, need the trailer to load it. Then image trying to launch that thing offshore or if you flip, can't really recover with a bunged shoulder, hence I wrote it off from the beginning. Thanks for sharing your experience though, appreciate it. The reason I'm Buring second hand is, it's going to cost me like 4-5k less and I can sell off the mods I don't want. Yeah can see the awesome advantage of pissing through the hole, I can just use my water bottle technique though (the bottle for bailing). The outback and the pa both look nuts I don't see much advantage of one over the other though I own a seak Mako and a Revo so I can't talk much. I kinda feel like the pa would handle like the Mako, just an absolute tank, bit of a slug, gets the job done, reliable, but the Mako is a bit unstable. That's one down side of the Revo tho, the limited space to mod, though how much do you actually need. I'm planning on kitting mine out like a stealth fish pro. Thanks for the tip, this one came with a bag full of shavings for welding. All the scrapes on the Mako aren't from my, expect the one in the front (I drive up a rock because I wasn't watching), they're from the original owner. You should offer to do it for them, if they're that lazy. I never drag mine up rocks, or try to avoid at all cost. I do drag it across sand however. Thanks for the advice but went the revolution, as it is more built for offshore which is kind of the whole reason for a new kayak, and the fact that someone almost drowned after rolling almost the exact same kayak and could right it.
  2. Yeah thanks for the help. I deliberately chose the older one, firstly there aren't any newer ones available, secondly less weight, as I plan to freedive and I'll mostly likely just roll out of the kayak so it's easier to flip back over. Also I wanted to sit as low as possible as I'm 6'3 or 4. I'm sorry to disagree with the PA, from my standpoint such a big thing, in fresh water for cod, bass, ect would be a disaster waiting to happen, then needing a trailer to transport, storage agh, the logistics does my head in lol. Maybe out on an open harbour or lake, would be perfect, but weaving around I'd much prefer something more nimble, that's just my opinion.
  3. How would you compare the Hobie outback and the revolution 13. I have 2 options, either a reasonably new revolution 13 or a older outback like pictures before
  4. Thanks mate, really helpful, it's a 2012 one I think, but there's heapes of them for sale. As I free dice off the kayak, stability is an absolute must. I'll get him to send the pics of the serial. Apparently there's a small hole that just needs some welding. The drive has got new fins. Maybe if your free next weekend, could you help me have a look. I plan to tap it and see if my hand goes through. It's been used almost exclusively offshore so should be fine. Thanks for the tip with the torch. I'll get some more pics to you when receive them
  5. Can someone please verify this is actually an outback. Also is there any issues with the older outbacks
  6. I'm looking for which Hobie would be best for offshore and which will be cheapest? So far I think I've narrowed it down to the revolution and the outback, leaning more towards the outback. Also any fist hand experience would be great with either the revolution or the outback
  7. last night I was able to pick up a saragosa 8000 for dirt cheap and was thinking to either re sell it or grab a nice rod and use it off the kayak as it is sealed and a good reel. was thinking of spooling it with 40-50 lbs braid. Thinking of pairing it with a cheapish (dont want to go to crappy as this is a nice reel) but not to expensive as its off a kayak, obivous reasons there. was thinking maybe a gomoku storm jigging rod, but struggling to find one in pe4. ideally would like the slammer to fit as well so i have the option of the slammer or the saragosa. The other ones I was looking at was the terez, penn reigment black ops oe the ocean assasin, the grappler is a bit on the pricey side to be used off a kayak.
  8. Ohh that confused the crap out of me, i never was much of a fan of the alvey rod but now that makes a lot more sense. one promblem though, the garage door shut on it 3 times so its a bit short lol. Thanks for all the help and answering my questions.
  9. Really not sure. Should I try it on a few different rods and see how it goes? I've just resorted to finding anything to wrap around my hand so it doesn't get cut up as bad.
  10. Ahh, yeah not to sure about mine there's the lever which I wriggle, I'll get some pics tomorrow. Bit there's also a knob on the handle side which you turn and when the lever is in the right spot it acts like a drag. Mine doesn't have a star drag.
  11. Ahh that would make sense, that's something that annoys me a bit with the 5:1 ratios. Its hard to bring your bait in slowly. But also a spin when you cast out a heap of line and have to bring it all back in lol. I'll do a bit more research into them for rock fishing, I rarely do it so have no idea. Is it true there is a Alvey for soft plastics? Yeah I like my 8ft rod for that. Yeah I can definitely see why, I just respooled mine with 20lbs mono. I guess on a kayak they constantly get wet so it's good having a tough reel. What about the snapper winch on a boat though?
  12. Sorry but what's a direct drive? I thought they a have drag. On mine there's this lever and I just wriggle it back and fourth until the clicker and drag comes on, I actually have no idea what it's for lol. I didn't realise you had to continuously hold the line on an Alvey, that might explain a bit then. Lmao, I know all about that one, have a bad braid cut still. I've never had my Alvey tangle, maybe mines just such a crap one. Also when I cast my Alvey I get these whip lash like marks on the back of my hand and it usually bleeds, so I'm guessing my technique is wrong?
  13. I recently started looking into alvey brand products as I have a couple and was quite curious. I found that there seems to be an alvey reel for basically everything. My main question is does anyone actually use an alvey for anything but beach fishing? Im not a big fan of mine, hence bearly ever use it. But now im really questioning if it would be worth taking out chasing some snapper. My next question is, do people actually use them for just general fishing and what do you spool them with? Also are they any good, I just find mine meh, does what i want it to and it works. Is there an advantage or even a reason to use alveys? does anyone spool braid onto them? Also are they a kind of alternative to overheads? They seem to hold a stupid amount of line, so Im guessing it would compete with the smaller overhead sizes? Thanks, im not planning on buying any just curious about them.
  14. I don't personally own one but my mate owns a couple. He use dawia tanacom and abolutely loves them. He has them spooled with 80lbs J braid. Hope this helps
  15. What about an overhead setup? an overhead setup maybe a tyrnos 30w on a wilson LBG rod. My big spin setup is a slammer 10500 spooled with 150 lbs braid on the saltist bw 802xh with 200 lbs leader. not reall suitable for kings but sure it would work and its an absolute tank.
  16. Yeah it's actually supposing how easy it can be to melt mono. But I was using a joining some stuff and using mono as a sewing thread and use a heat gun can't rember why but didn't melt the mono.
  17. The cheap aldi packs 😂 not much beats those little packs for restocking gear.
  18. Ahh alright thanks for clarifying, makes a lot more sense as I can picture it i
  19. Ahh, the silly fish finder strikes again. always a nucense when it doesn't work, especially when you want it to. still sounds like a nice day out. dont worry about it, just enjoy the time outdoors away from technology
  20. would it be worth respooling (so the mono is the backing) then putting a leader on? are you able to use hollow core braid on spinning reels? so it remove any knots and its easy to top up with extra line. Also another probably stupid question, but I have respooled my tr200g with braid backing then to mono topshot, so i have a decent amount of heavy line, instead of running strait braid which will get cut up on the reef as i found out the hard way.
  21. Thanks for the detailed reply. sorry for the stupid question but what is the axel?
  22. Would you recomend swapping it around? its only about 30-50m of mono so maybe it should be swapped? thanks. I do get where your coming from, but when stray lining for snapper on a reef, I though having a mono topshot would be helpful in surviving the reef instead of loosing expensive braid.
  23. I though if you have a braid ready spool, you dont need the tape? I built a little tensioning thing, which allows me to get the spool very tight and it means I can spool the braid on really tight. thanks for the tip though. I do the same things on some reels that are big enough to put some mono backing, I do.
