  1. Thankyou so much, when I get some time, after hsc ill get out a get a bunch of yakkas or if there is any other way I could repay you just let me know. Thanks again, Ill definately make some time.
  2. Thanks for the suggestion, personally I found the cheapest way to get chicken is from the discount section that green logo supermarket. I sometimes use bread crushed with cheese, relatively inexpensive, just crush them into balls haven't had all that great success with it though. Chicken works really well for certian places, I find it either hit or miss. Thanks a lot for the suggestions though, ill definately give the girlic chicken ago.
  3. Good afternoon, as many of you know I am in my hsc year of school, so am very restricted time wise. I can only really fish on sundays, sometimes once a month. with these time constraints I struggle to get bait, my bait supply is running very low unfortunately and i havent been able to get out to gather more. Since I am mostly fishing late afternoon to night the targets reflect those species (at the moment with the dislocated shoulder, very limited) in particular, shark and jewfish, but also tailor, salmon, bream ect. I know what im asking sounds really cheap. What im asking for is if anyone around the hills, hornsby, berowera, kellyville ect areas, if you have any fish scraps you dont want, particularly head, tails, blood lines, or unwanted bait (not guts) could you please send me a message so I could pick it up. I know it sounds really petty and why don't I buy bait, its just that I go through a stupid amount of bait in one night and at $10 per 2 mullet it all racks up to be pretty stupid. I also havet been able to work because of time constraints so yeah, im sorry about having to ask, please don't feel obligated to try and help, just if you have some scraps you need to dispose of. Thanks very much in advance, it all helps. If you want me to, when I get some time to get some bait id be happy to get trade some of it.
  4. I soak all my in fresh water straight away after a trip. Then cover all the rust with Rust converter, then spray with wd40 and wipe down. Some times I'll sand them with some wet and dry and sharpen the have OKs on a wet stone. Takes a bit of time but saves quite a bit of money and effort, plus do it while watching tv or something.
  5. They work for me, especially for thin line, with 50lbs braid for example I have to rub it back and fourth a few times with the clippers squeezed down on it to cut through. I do have braid scissors and I just used what ever is closest, heavy duty wire cutters work great to. Mine cuts mono, braid, wire, hooks. Wasn't bought for cutting line but when it's all you have, it's surprisingly good.
  6. Lmao true. You only live once may as well make the most of it lol. I've some how never broken a bone but almost every year I end up in the patching up room in the doctors lol. Yeah probably true, except I can't really love my shoulder lol.
  7. Would love to get out, the river mouths will be full with sharks and the crabs out and about. And because of the rain most people probably won't be out and about so the water should be relatively free. Unfortunately I dislocated my shoulder again so no fishing for me for a while, yay 😭
  8. I've fished and camped there for a couple of days. There are very patchy weed patches. There are octopus and squid there and my mate caught a flathead. Just careful landing and launching on low tide as it is only about knee deep for quite a bit. The water is very clear also. A side note, the possums are absolute master Thieves. Make sure you lock your doors and keep all good away. I know how stupid I sound saying this, yes they do open tents. I know from first and experience.
  9. Take a look at this video https://www.google.com/search?q=jigging+overhead+vs+spin&oq=jigging+overhead+vs+spin&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i512l2j0i22i30l6.3906j0j7&client=ms-android-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8# The lighter the setup the better. Your going to want a very tough reel as your going to put a lot of wear and tear on them. If you want a spin setup, slammer 6500hs on an ocean assassin PE5 or so will be great. Twin power with a tcurve if you have a higher budget. Or a saragosa and a treze. Or you could go a speed master or an sea jigger from Shimano. The Penn fathom in the 25 size is great on a carnage jigging rod. The fathom will handle anything your likely to encounter. If your after massive fish and have a big budget, talica or international 16 size are great for big tuna ect. You could also get a underhead reel (yes they're a thing) they are basically a level wind that goes on like a spinning reel specifically for jigging. They are stupidly expensive and I don't know anyone who has one. You probably want around 65 to 80lbs braid on a reasonably heavy leader. If your going with the talica or international go 100lbd braid. Really hope this helps, but take this with a grain of salt, I very rarely jig and I'm only getting started. This is from the hours of research I've done and the minimal experience I have. If anyone wants, please feel free to correct this.
  10. Lizard fish. They're ok eating, bit boney but still alright. I accidentally broke it's jaw trying to dehook it as it was gut hooked so I just took it home for dinner I just want to make clear that braking it's jaw was a complete freak accident. I was shaking the hook out and yeah the jaw broke so it was quickly dispatched and taken home.
  11. Can't blame you there. I've been looking the zerik vibes, now and again you will find all sorts of good stuff 🤣
  12. The discount bin is your best friend 😂 I'll proudly say this I almost never buy and lures unless they're in the discount bin $5 for a vibe what a bargain 😁
  13. nah the ones I have didn't come pre hooke. Ive left my hook in there since 2020 still fine not sure why savage gets such a bad rap. theyre cheap and they work id be careful thogh ive heard a lot of things saying never mix lures. maybe get a small tub and put a bit of juice and a cube of broken lure in? just incase something goes wrong you won't loose your whole ocntainer of juice and lures
  14. Ive mixed savage prawns and gulps together and they are 100% fine.
  15. my mate said they were mustard brand but im pretty sure he was reffering to his other hooks
  16. My mate uses these size 1 tint gauge Japanese circle hooks. Not sure of the brand but they're a gold colour probably about a mill or 2 thick so extremely small gauge They look very similar to this but a bit more white on the packaging. I'll ask him exactly what they are. You have to get them at a specialist tackle store.
  17. probably i had very greedy bream lol, they usually just scoff the whole nipper and i just strike and the hook goes straight into the corner of the mouth. might the size of the nipper be a factor as well? like the ones I was using were quite small so that might be why the fish were scoffing them whole i pin them a very particular way, so that might be another facor but I can definately see where your coming from. theyre quite soft.
  18. we all have that one mate that loves to feed/ entertain the cod and wirrahs. 🤣
  19. next time I get ill try that. thanks I pin the live nippers in the tail like the second pic and for dead nippers like the first pic. If thw fish keep plucking them off ill pin thwm like the first pic always
  20. great article thanks. with regards to sinkers, for me it depends on my bait and current and water depth. if the water is relatively shallow with minimal cuttent and im using adead bait i dont use a swinker at all, just let the bait float down. if the water is a few meters deep ill use a split shot sinker with both dead and live bait. nippers work great, I usually use a float with about 1m of leader, adust to dethph and some burely to bring them up. Ive been having great success with chunks of tuna as well. i agree with pickles about them being over-rated table fish. I just find them average, theyre not trash but they need a bit of work to be great. burely is very helpful to. just some mashed up break and prawn shells works for me, cat food is great to
  21. Thanks. Take a look at the 2020 saltist hyper, $230. Id say just wait for some sales If you want a bit cheaper you can go the saltist blue water around the $120 mark. If you don't mind second hand, take a look at a saltist Nero or a bait runner oc for a reel and just wait around and a very cheap saltist hyper will come. Seems them for $150. Will be $250 in total
  22. Look at something in the pe5 range Dawia: they feel great saltist hyper can't go wrong, very common to see them in the harbour Shimano: tcurve treze penn: i quite like the regiment and ocean assasin, have to be some of my favorite rods. ocean assasin regiment out of all of these id be going the first - saltist hyper, second - ocean assasin, third - tcurve
  23. Ahh great thanks. I guess the advantage of hollow core if you can always add more braid within it having to change the whole spool to. Probably ends up saving you in the long run
  24. Hey, anyone want to go to berowera waters marina to do a bit of bream and shark fishing? Plans kind of went out the window when all my mates bailed. Sorry for the late notice but if anyone's interested I've got all the gear and bait ready. Pm me and I'll give you my phone number and we can meet at the boat ramp. Would really appreciate any company, stay as long as you like and get there whenever I don't really mind.
