  1. Thanks. I'm thinking of getting rid of the biggest one. The 2 small ones are basically the same size. Planning on only keeping one maybe 2 though
  2. Recently I went up a mates farm to catch some yabbies for dinner. Only ended up with 3 so popped the traps back in and they're still there. Anyways, I have the 3 yabbies in a tank, and have decided to keep them as pets. I'm thinking of putting 2 In the pond and keep the one missing a flaw in the tank as a permanent pet. Just not sure how to look after them. Im not looking to create a stupid amount of work for myself and I don't want to spend much money on this. This is just run by the solar panels, so at the moment, heater and airator are free (all found in the side of the road), and yes they run 24 hours a day. So what do I feed the yabbies? I was just going to feed them fish scraps and maybe some vegetables? And peleco wafers. Also I'm keeping the tank at 22degress which seems to be keeping them happy. I'm going to find a more permanent spot and properly set up the tank with gravel fake plants, logs ect.
  3. 6/0 either a Snell rig or a single hook. Aiming at anything big enough to take a nice slab of squid. I went a decent way out so yeah not after flathead or bream. Squids not to bad, just prepare them properly. Take that putter skin layer off, take out the backbone and cut into strips, the head works well to
  4. Unfortunately I sprung a leak so wasn't really able to head out. Anyways dumped absolutely everything on the beach. Just a handline and 1 squid strip. Anyways paddled out to the edge of the bay and trolled that squid strip and was suddenly just couldn't paddle and was being towed backwards. Unfortunately the line snapped. Web back got a rod and reel, went out same spot with a squid strip and was towed backwards. Managed to get the king up to the side of the kayak before the knot broke .
  5. Been great to have a regular kayak buddy 🙂
  6. Nope, I pay for basically 100% of it myself. I buy pretty much all my gear second hand lol, and I'll spend months finding a bargain 😁. I'm hoping to get it for free through trading. Ahh, alright. I use ashconfish braid, pretty cheap stuff, but can get it in bulk and it's not bag stuff, also the $10 aldi crane braid😀 good for that price. I can't justify $70 on braid, let alone trying to spool an overhead 🤣 Exactly what I do, I either get my gear apart from rods and reels and line from the discount bin, or if I need something particular, online. Thanks for the tip about the podcast.
  7. Yeah. Don't really trust brands that I don't really know. I don't even touch Okuma lol. Only stick to Jervis, Shimano, dawia, and pen. But thanks for the tip. How's their line? Heard a lot of mixed things
  8. Yeah. They're nice reels though and the bag I want to trade will get me most of the way covering the cost for one so yep. How do they stack up against the Esmeraldas? That sucks that Shimano doesn't keep parts, though it makes sense. I guess you could hire someone to custom make the parts. Yeah the sedonas look alright.
  9. They make good sushi by the way. Also I bread crumb them with curry powder, chicken stock powder, salt pepper, praperika. Then deep fry, then sprinkle with some lemon juice
  10. What's everyone's thoughts on the certate? I'm broadening my search to hopefully find someone to trade with. Got an offer for a twin power PG for the bag in selling. What are your thoughts on the twin power PG, obviously they're quite old but it's kinda whatever. Also approached someone selling a slammer, unfortunately not interested.
  11. I reserviced the infinite drive or whatever the silly thing is called and working well again. But still looking to upgrade. Thanks for clarifying and your experience with the vanford. In going to try and trade for one lol.
  12. Yeah they're nuts for what they are. I'd say i prefer the revros for bream though. I like a slightly stiffer rod, but absolutely love the regiment
  13. I'm trying to trade for a dawia by 3k on a Penn regiment Black Ops rod. Probably a little overkill but yeah. I don't see myself doing any bream fishing anytime soon so will try and trade for a stradic setup. What's the difference between the thunnus and the bait runner d
  14. Yeah it was a great bream thanks. I would have thought the thunnus was a bit on the heavy side isn't it? Wouldn't it be hard to flick little plastics and stuff? Would handle a Jew and king great though. Yeah the stradic look great. Thinking do I go the nasci setup or do I hold off and wait until I can trade that fish bag for a stradic setup I found a nasci samaki setup for 200, not sure whether it's worth it or not.
  15. ahh thanks for clarifying. Was using a little sienna, the thing that annoyed me was that this is the 3rd using it and it failed. I didn't lube the anit-reverse mechanism. Struggling to work out what went wrong. Tried contacting Shimano but for the price of shipping, better off buying a new reel. But when you pay $60 you expect to at least get a few uses of it, not 3! Thanks. Got a few more that were released. The 2 that were gut hooked were kept
  16. Yeah this took me ages to bring in on a buggered reel. I was using my palm as a brake lol. I serviced mine regularly so they've never seized. Try replacing the bearings. If you want bring them over and I'll take a look for you. Yeah I agree, but I use lures to. I also want sealed bearings as I'm on a kayak and things get splashed all the time. Yeah the penne are pretty nice. Was thinking about a twin power. Got an offer to trade for my fish bag. Nothing wrong with cheaper reels. When I'm landbased I really need the cranking power, which they don't really have. Yeah, it's definitely possible but not where we were. They run you straight into the rocks. Even the sharks weren't playing nicely
  17. Ahh alright. Might have to go a Penn then I spray with water then spray and wipe them with tackle guard. Then I'll service them at least twice a year. yeah thanks. Im really looking for a bit more raw cranking power. Because where I was, just struggled dragging the fish out of the rocks. porbably a mixture of both.
  18. Ahh. Is there much difference between the vanford and the stradic though? To me, they're the same. 😁 Yes I am. I kind of see Penn for the bit heavier gear, not so much bream and flathead. I'll pop down to the shop and have a look at the 2500 slammer. What about a clash though, highspeed. I'd love some more cranking power. Yeah I love my slammer and ally penns..Shimano, hot or miss. Though the tiagra performed well above expectations.
  19. The anti reverse failed. If I didnt hold the handle it would just spin backwards. And yes I did have the switch turned on. Bait 10kg drag on a stradic lol. Hoping to submit the pic of bream to see where it sits with others. It was an absolute tank. Will get a tape measure on it
  20. Tonight I did my bream reel in, on a very big bream, report coming soon. So I'm in the market for a new reel at least, but going for a new reel and rod. I'm not looking to spend a ton on it, but will spend a reasonable amount. I would prefer a sealed reel, with a good drag. I was thinking about a stradic, nasci, edmeraldas, vanford. Just curious, what's the difference between the stradic and vanford. Any advice would be appreciated and if anyone is maybe selling a bream setup.
  21. time to get the trawler out? scoot up and down the hawkesburry and off shore a bit. you will get it all lol Awsome lunch though, making me hungry
  22. Im not the biggest fan of spinning gear for shark. what I use is a slammer 10500, spooled with 150lbs braid (getting repsooled to 80lbs) on a pe8 saltist popping rod. Yes it handles a 8ft shark well but I wouldn't be going much bigger. If yiur just starting, look at a soinfisher 950ssm on an aerwave or prevail, 50 lbs braid. Cheap good setup which will get you started before dumping $500 - $800 into a type of fishing that is not the most common. Its better to dip your toes in before jumoing in and spending a huge amount of money. yeah spinfisher 10500 would work but a slammer 10500 would be better. Spool it with 80lbs braid, as much as you can. Then you must have a topshot, at least 100lbs to 150lbs, this will be attached to your wire leader. Your wire leader should be basically the length of the shark your targeting. A pe8 popping rod like a saltist is a bit short. The prevail is alright, prefer having a higher cast wieght though. Look at a custom if you really want to get into it. But a prevail will get the job done. I prefer overheads as they allow bigger line caps hence bigger sharks. Here is a section of my shark fishing guide: Penn slammer 3/4 - At $350 Absolute beast reels, they have mind boggling drag capacities, great drag systems (Penn's Dura Drag, from their International reels), great sealing (IPx 6) meaning that the insides of your reel will be mostly safe from the harsh salt water and an extremely sturdy frame giving it all round great durability. The down side of this is the weight of the reel but since you are most likely going to have it in the rod holder, weight is not the biggest problem. This is a minor problem, which will only affect the 1% of people, when turning the reel as the spool reaches the bottom a little tap sound happens, which is completely normal. Though this might annoy some people. Saragosa - At $350, this is is a pretty solid choice, since it performs like a budget Stella. Now where to begin? This reel is basically Shimano's competitor to the Slammer, this reel is lighter, doesn't have the same heavy drag pressure and has a smaller line capacity and not as durable. Other than that, this reel is silky smooth, lovely to use, sealed and just a solid choice. Saltist – At $350, this reel is great, heavy drag, sealed, good line capacity and a metal body. This reel competes with the Slammer and Saragosa so you know the quality. Personally I have never used one but I know they are good. My main complaint would have to be the Dawia customer support (it’s a joke) but other than that, it’s a solid choice.
  23. sweet, thanks. I got mine late last year, so I guess its just going to be a noobie trip (no offence) lol. im assuming you didn't take it through the surf with all your gear? Im down for inshore and offshore (within reason), like swimming diatance of land. Ive never surf launched so not sure how that will go lol. I really don't know where to get longtail thats safe enough to get out with a kayak. But id be satisfied with a mack tuna or bonito or any type of tuna. will work out the target species in a bit, just got to find a location first. im based around castle hill. what kayak do you have? I have a seak mako 3.9
  24. Would anyone be insterested in a few weeks to do a bit of kayak fishing around sydney targeting mac tuna, long tails and stuff?
  25. I wouldn't be trying to go on that track, even though I have seen quite a few doing it, doesn't look safe at all. As far as I know there isn't any 'track' but I have seen some that people have made themselves, though this was in 2019.
