  1. Yeah I have seen people catching things at milsons point and yes its under the bridge. Walsh is a pain with float, if there's any wind the line gets caught in others or the pylons. I think the videos must be filmed over multiple times. I have never seen anyone get anything decent there caught a nice bream, snapper, had a nice run (must have been a shark). Chicken breast is the best bait and use berly. Apparently live bait works the best but from experince and watching people you either get nothing or just the head of the bait. fresh yakka strips seem to work. try a live bait if you want i had big problems with birds when i tried. Goodluck
  2. Yes there are 10" soft plastics. Under the bridge I heard is good for salmon. Not sure don't think I have actually caught one.
  3. From personal experience and others I know lures don't work well off pier 8. Your better off going to blues Point reserve. When I was there in on Friday 16th a whole school of big kings just swam straight past live baits and lures. I have been trying lures everytime for anything off that pier but no luck. Blues Point is the only spot I have seen people catching kings on lures. When I went last time I saw this guy using the interesting float with a flat bottom and a rounded top a bit bigger than a 50 c coin and about 50 lbs leader catch the biggest bonito I have ever seen. Not sure what bait he was using (he didn't understand English).
  4. For small kings that should work well, bigger ones you want the same in the 10" version. For bonito your better off using a chrome lure (like the ones from kmart)
  5. For me I found constantly checking face book marketplace was good (cheap prices). The fathom, squall vsw 2 speed (i have the 50 vsw) or the TLD (i have used the 30A) are good. The backbone or the ocean assain are good. The penn carnage also has good reviews. Also I would probably go for a 24kg, its your choice but i have never had any issues with it. My friend uses the TLD 25 with the 24kg backbone for sharks (he was caught 8 ft bull sharks with it)
  6. Will do thanks. Need the driving hours to, to get my Ps
  7. Your better off using something like: Carls drag grease - for drags If its a penn Ht-100 drag i found that dry is better - use a strong de-greaser (I use one for cars) Other parts - reel lube or white lithium spray (its rust resistant) If your telescopic rod is stuck - silicon spray / ice Wd40 is good at removing water out of things it isn't a good lubricator
  8. The resin is that film/ kinda sticky thing they put over the blank right? what's the point of doing this? I thought it was to keep the thread for the guides together or is it to protect the blank from scratches?
  9. yeah anything really but its best to be prepared for big ones and at $250 it was hard to pass that. Surprised that a kmart rod would survive a shark though. The handle on the rod from big W came loose but I think this was a big shark that did that
  10. Ok, will have a look at that book. Wouldn't it be out of date though? They would be adding the signs around a bit
  11. That would be a real sign though because lines get stuck in the motors and its a pain. Also any tips on how to tell a real sign from a fake. There seem to be some pretty good fakes (not sure, they might be legitimate)
  12. Thanks for the help. Are you meaning the reel seat is graphite (type of carbon)?
  13. Looks like a great day. Good job, wish I could catch some flatties 5 or 6 years since my last one LOL I just can't seem to get them. catch everything els but flatties. Great feed. How do you cook them? I just use butter
  14. Hi, I have been told I need to use a rod with a aluminum reel seat / handle for shark fishing is this true or not? I bought my setup from a guy who used it to catch marlin and shark and it have a plastic handle / reel seat (its a abu gracia 15 - 24 kg roller tip rod)
  15. On the DPI website there used to be a map with all the no-fishing locations, not sure if its still there but it should be. But if there aren't any signs you can fish. Correct me if i'm wrong but if the sign is made from plastic and looks a bit dodgey (is in Chinese and English and doesn't have the normal no-fishing symbol but a someone sitting and a chair with a rod) you can ignore it becuase its fake. I'm not 100 % sure but i fished next to some and no one said anything to me, I also asked a couple of them if it was real and they said no. Also if the sign is covered by trees or something you can fight/ argue the find - apparently - correct if im wrong please
  16. Any of the beaches or piers or river mouth or under that A49 bridge should be ok, I haven't fished there in many years, the mangroves are probably worth a try though i can't rember where they are. Use prawns and a small hook for piers or beach worms for beach with a bottom rig using small long shank hooks and a star sinker. Definitely have a look online for some quieter spots or go early morning or night as it gets very busy at times there
  17. the rapala slimy mackrel stickbait longcast
  18. Thanks. Finally got it. took 5 packs of peas, 4 is blocks and 1 hour
  19. I just got a butt join rod and pushed it to far and now its stuck. I already tried 2 ice blocks and a bag of peas already tried twisting and pulling with 2 people about to try warm water Any other methods that work?? Its proper stuck and not budging
  20. Looks like a pike eel, the fin ends a bit before the head also it appears to be a bit more of a sand/ brown colour. Also there are heaps of these in hawksberry A hair tail is more silver and the fin stops a bit further close to the head.
  21. Nice catch Index and middle finer together and put into hood. go around a couple of times. Then pull the head down, should come right off with ink sack and everything. Then cut down middle the hood and remove the clear bone. If you want to eat the tentacles, cut on the level of the beak and remove the beak. The rest head isn't good eating, no reason you can't just a bit chewy and sandy. marinate in soy or teriyaki sauce with lime and chilli for an hour or 2 then bbq or crumb with egg and bread crumb and fry. Good luck
  22. This was just to help anyone that found their drag a bit sticky.
