  1. Are A4 foam sheets from officeworks ok?
  2. I'll try both the cotton swabs and the bean bag beans
  3. I guess it's time to raid the bean bag chair
  4. Hey raiders, Any recommendations for fly floatants? I don't think i can get down to a tackle shop but have been reading that stuff like vaseline and silicone spray works. I'll just be using a cotton swab or cotton balls for makeshift bread flies for mullet Cheers Albert
  5. Do you reckon just a plastic bucket and salt water? maybe some sand as well
  6. Damn, I didn't know you could get sea cabbage at narrabeen
  7. one last question, will goldfish be alright with mullet or should I move them
  8. I'll acclimate them in a bucket then move them to the fresh, is a canister filter enough for an aerator? I've got an aqua one nautilus 1100
  9. Might try bringing some aquarium water when I go and maybe mixing a little bit of the salt to acclimate them?
  10. Was the 60 litre drum freshwater? If so was the water change tap water with prime?
  11. Hey Raiders, Just asking around if anyone's had experience keeping mullet in a tank as aquarium fish (going to be used as live bait sooner or later), I've got a 200L freshwater tank with a filter that lets water back into the tank aerating it in the process. I've done some research and found that mullet can live in freshwater but I want to be sure before I convert my tank. Also if anyone successfully kept them as pets what do you feed them? Any info is greatly appreciated, Cheers, Albert
  12. No, they actually allow you to fish the bottom and top parts of the big wharf.
  13. The fishing was done on Sunday but I’ve been a bit busy with assessments and so on, I’ve been looking at cheap Alibaba lures for the past months and they finally arrived a week ago so I took the Sunday out to test them. I didn’t have the chance to fish some microjigs I ordered as I got kicked off the marina after loosing a banger 50cm trev on a zman grub (I was running 4lb braid on a bream setup). After getting cooked I switched spots to a place in the harbour where I could get both blackfish and fish for jewies, flattie and bream. I switched over to my heavier setup and tied on a 14g Alibaba ecogear rip off and ended the day with some cracker fish. I managed to hook up on my first cast with the vibe resulting in a tiny pinky pinned well by the assist hooks. After that came two little flattie around 40cm after getting them back in the drink I tied on a luderick float rig I made onto my light bream rod which had coincidentally the amount of split shot weights I needed to make the float slowly sink so there was no tension when the luderick grabbed my bread. With some simple bread in the water as burley I had a massive school of both luderick and bream busting up at my feet and in 5 minutes I ended up with 3 legal sized luderick and a legal bream of which I only kept the biggest 40cm luderick for dinner. With my time running out I made a final attempt with the vibe and I’m so glad I did as in my first (and last) couple of casts with some help from a blokes net I was able to land a big 62cm model flattie (biggest fish I’ve caught on lures so far) which was safely released back to spawn. Overall incredibly happy with the results of a 6 dollar knock off lure and will definitely order more. ( no photo of the luderick as it went into the wok to steam before I could take a photo )
  14. Keeper net with a plastic bottle half full with water, helps with keeping it afloat
  15. what lb leader are you using? I did a bit of ludding yesterday as well but I managed to easily lift 3 35ishcm sized luderick up 3 metres on 4lb mainline and 10lb fluro.
  16. For all you lure makers, this is my favorite american youtuber for making lures, he's made lures such as a facehugger from the Alien franchise and some other very gnarly swimbaits and divers. He's also made three videos of catching bass on blocks of wood as well.
  17. I'll pull out a couple of videos from my hours of binging
  18. yeah you probably can get away with 15-20g jigs
  19. For pelagics any type of sluggos, jerk shads, paddletails and just generally any plastics will work it all just comes down to what time you're fishing, where you're fishing, what type of food source the pelagics are feeding on at the time, "match the hatch" as the fly fishers say. For the jig heads the ones you have may impact the action of the plastics so I would recommend big TT jigheads such as the TT demonZ .Another really important thing is where you work your plastics and metals, as the fish can be feeding on the bottom, middle or on the surface, with surface being the most easily recognisable by bust ups and sea gull action but with the other two you'll have to find it out yourself. About the rod and reel combo, I don't have much expertise so take me lightly but personally I think the rod is a bit short for shorejigging however it should handle plastics and lights jigs.
  20. Morning Raiders, With my birthday coming up I've decided on an early birthday present of the Reddington Crosswater combo in the 8 weight and so I met up with good ol' @DerekD at the fishing station on sunday in the afternoon just to find out the last crosswater had been sold that morning, Derek had been warning me to call them and to tell them to put one aside for me but me being lazy only checked on their website the day before and that is a lesson I've learnt now, In the end all was good as I put my name down on a contact list for and we carried on to the important part of the day, the lesson. Over the course of two hours or so Derek managed to get me to be able to sort of consistently false cast and sometimes throw in a haul or two on the grass where we practiced. However once we started making casts on the water everything changed due to the water grabbing the line which threw me off the unstable rhythm i had built up however overall I've learnt a lot and fly fishing has given me another big hit of the fishing bug, anyways many thanks to Derek for spending his sunday afternoon teaching me a lesson and hopefully for many others to come. Thanks for reading, Albert (p.s @DerekD I've also been looking at the vice outfit which is also saltwater rated and has a 7 weight option, it's a bit more expensive but i have the budget, the reviews online have also been amazing and you can also use me like a guinea pig to test how well it performs)
  21. fish the beach on the right side of the island as the left side is very muddy and weedy, I was there during the middle of the day, for flatties they'll be anywhere so just cover ground
