  1. A slow sinking version or a vibe could work great at mimicking a realistic chippy sinking action!
  2. Stay safe big neil, always looking forwards to the next time you come down to sydney
  3. Cheers Little flatty, my mate's got a yabby pump and the white bread is always with me Hopefully I'll be looking forward to a successful session.
  4. Hey Raiders, Next week my mates @thomasdand @JonahA(please give them a warm welcome as they just joined) and I are planning to go for a kayak session at Narrabeen Lagoon, problem is I don't know anything about fishing at Narrabeen so I've come to good ol' trusty fishraider to ask around. We will be fishing on 2 kayaks and one paddleboard, I don't know much about my mates' gear but I've prepared a bream rod for bait/soft plastics, a snapper rod for bait/lures, a big 8000 size reel for live mullet and a little rod for catching said mullet. One of them actually live there so he's got some local knowledge on spots. We will be launching from the ramp above Sanctuary island and I was planning to catch mullet for livebait/cutbait and then drag them up the channel to the ocean and maybe stop at the bridge for some bait and sp action. Any info is appreciated such as fish species, tactics and bait. Cheers, Albert
  5. Hey @Flickking I've had a little bit of experience with bringing fishing gear on planes, I don't know if all the rules are the same as the flight I took was to new zealand so take this with a grain of salt. Generally rods and reels are fine when stowed away or if the reel has no line I think it's fine. There is a rule on most airlines where you can't bring fishing line as carry on because they consider it a weapon. I would recommend putting your rods inside your suitcase if they're small enough or get a hard rod tube as mentioned by Little Flatty reels should be fine in the suitcase as well. For lures I think if the hooks are moderate in size (maybe don't bring big circle hooks) you would be fine to bring them stowed away in your suitcase. Squid jigs should also be fine but check your airlines website and maybe give them a ring and ask a few questions. Most of all good luck on your trip and I hope you catch some big squid!
  6. Nice fish. tommy! Always nice to sneak in a bit of fishing when you're busy.
  7. I released my flounder but my mate took home the jacket for a good feed
  8. Hey Raiders, After one of my friends showed interest in fishing so I decided I’d pass on @DerekD teachings and after teaching him the basics- casting, knots and retrievals I recommend him to stick to bait fishing until he got a better rod as his current one was pretty old and was straight mono. I showed him a basic setup and gave him time to practice while I hopped a paddletail around on the bottom and after casting for so long with no bites that I even started questioning myself if I was fishing the plastics right my rod finally loaded up with what I thought was a flattie due to the headshakes turned out to be a nice 37cm flounder- my first one ever. After a quick release I put my rod down and went to help my mate after he said that he was getting bites but no hookups. So we went straight to a panfish hook and after spotting a very decent leather jacket he managed to hook up said leather jacket and catch his first legal fish in Australia. As we started to pack up I switched to a little 2.5inch watermelon grub and on the last cast a massive 50+ cm trevally came out and smashed it peeling off my drag and running like crazy unfortunately I was fishing with my bream rod and only had 6lb fluro on and as it took one last final run it snapped my line and disappeared into the depths.
  9. Thanks derek, one of the rods I was looking at was the reddington crosswater fly rod combo but it doesn't have 7 weight only 6 and 8
  10. Oh shoot sorry I accidentally deleted that part, I will be fishing mostly freshwater for trout in more accessible areas such as larger rivers and lakes in the Blue mountains and New Zealand if I get a chance to go back every year or two. I might also fish saltwater flies but I haven't looked at saltwater fly fishing much.
  11. Hey Raiders, I've been very interested in fly fishing and after getting a pretty good pay check from selling misc things around the house I have $500 budget to buy a fly rod. I know that I will need the flies, wellies or waders, flies and line and leaders for fly fishing but I'm not sure if my 500 dollar budget will cover everything so I'm here looking for recommendations. I have been looking at entry level combos on <removed> but I still want to know everything about it before I fully invest into fly fishing. Any info on gear or fly fishing is very much appreciated as even though I have done my research I'm still relatively clueless. Cheers, Albert
  12. Good Evening Raiders, Today is the first day of my roadtrip down to Eden. We arrived at our motel in Jervis Bay at around 4pm and after checking in and setting up I grabbed my bream rod for a quick flick and arrived at a boat ramp with some prawns. When I first got there, I had a little trouble setting up as on my first cast I snag up and break my line at my mainline. After that small yet frustrating experience it was frustrating as people around me were pulling out undersized bream every minute or so, I rigged up a tiny circle hook with a tiny running sinker. Few casts out towards some boats resulted in only nibbles of the small bream schools, however I suddenly had the great idea of fishing right beneath me as I was on a jetty, as I watched my line sink down suddenly my rod loads up and the fish nearly pulls me under but I managed to pull it out and land it with some help of a fellow fisho. Nice silver trevally which measured at 37cm. It was a bit quiet after that I decided to move to a different wharf, some more prawn on the rig resulted to a just legal 25cm bream and around a bakers dozen of undersized luderick biggest measuring 26cm. I’m going to try a different deeper wharf tomorrow morning so hopefully I’ll post tomorrow as well. Thanks for reading Cheers, Albert
  13. Hey green hornet, recommend any place to visit on my trip on monday? We planned it out so we would spend a day in jervis bay and the rest would be decided as we move so we can go anywhere
  14. Hey Raiders, I just bought some live crickets from a pet store and was wondering if anyone has had any experience fishing with them? I know they’re good for trout but I don’t want to bother my dad to drive all the way to the blue mountains as I’m leaving on a previously mentioned trip down south . Does anyone know if saltwater fish like bream will eat crickets? If nothing takes them it’ll just be a small soft plastic session. Cheers, Albert
  15. I send my condolences to you and your family Ash, all the best to and your family
  16. Good too see you looking healthy Neil
  17. I don’t like eating fish that much either haha, Yeah eels fight in spurts I guess, you pull them in and they run out a bit and you repeat until you tire it out.
  18. Yeah the weather was amazing and so was the view, the spot is sort of a hit or miss place and will hopefully fire up in the summer
  19. Good Evening Raiders, Headed down to lavender bay after dinner tonight, arrived at around 7:40, mixed in bread and cat food for burley, no yakkas. Resorted to using unweighted salted pilchards on two circle hooks. Clumsily I forgot to bring my mono as I took it out last time, met a new friend who gave me some mono and as I was tying on a gulp shrimp I heard my rod go “skert skert” rushed over and set the hook. Fought well at first but I powered him in and measured 75cm. Nothing else for the rest of the night. Decided to give the eel to my new friend as I have no idea how to eat it and he seems experience with eels also because of his friendly gesture. (Could someone tell me what species this eel is?) Cheers, Albert
  20. Makes sense haha, they probably aren't that aware as they can't see you or your shadow
  21. Yeah I've decided on my game plan, I'll get there around 7 and go for yakkas then chuck it out for a jewie on two circle hooks and if I don't get any yakkas from the jetty I'll just have a quiet little flick with some soft plastics
  22. Cheers macca, how do you use squid jigs on a paternoster rig?, I've been hearing a bit about it but don't really understand the full concept
