  1. Congrats on the fish and welcome aboard @rlac if you want to you could consider break wall fishing which is usually pretty safe if you wear appropriate clothing- shoes with good grip. You can also fish from the rockpools next to the actual rocks which usually have calmer waves for example the avoca beach rocks have a big rockpool next to it and I've seen a lad land a decent salmon or tailor (I forgot as it was a couple years ago) I recommend you to do some research on fishing on break walls as its basically a toned down version of rock fishing. It was pretty rewarding for me as I caught 2 legal 40 ish bream and a 40ish cm snapper just on pillies at a breakwall. If you would like to know more pm me.
  2. It was a bit too crowded to cast out another line but I'll definitely try next time if I go there
  3. Yep caught about 30-40 trumpeters on my sabiki rig after the yakkas left so the hotspot time for yakkas is around 9-10
  4. Yeah timing and experience, the fella who caught the salmon was part of a large group who I guess fish there all the time as they knew to take the corner.
  5. I wasn't prepared for anything haha, I just wanted to get a quick bite and ended up seeing the massive school of bream.
  6. Yeah I was pretty lucky and only snagged once on the sabiki rig.
  7. I don't know much about jewfish so take this likely but If it was me I would try to get some live poddy or yakkas and chuck them out at night.
  8. Hey Raiders, Headed down to a new spot yesterday-Gymea bay baths got there at around 10 and started to mix burley of catfood and white bread. Also decided to try out sabiki rigs and had a bit of trouble with the packaging but managed to get there in the end. Both burley and sabiki rig worked pretty well and I managed to get a school of yakkas to start biting and swarming the burley. With a couple of other lads I met that day we managed to catch 5 yakkas altogether and then they stopped biting and everything else we got were grunters or trumpeters. The sabiki rigs are very effective in catching schools as I pulled out three trumpeters at once however the small hooks prove challenging to bait and rebait them as the slightest nibble would cause the pillie strips I was using to full off. All four of us chucked out live yakkas, unweighted on circle hooks and I got mine taken but didn't set the hook or the yakka might've swam off. Rest of the day was pretty eventful as hordes of people rolled in probably 20 or so people by the time I left only notable catches was a 60ish cm salmon landed on an unweighted pillie. Headed off at around 2 and had a hard time getting back up as I had bought a cart to carry my stuff and the way down is pretty steep and there are stairs at the end. Thought it was the end of that day but dad and I decided to go get hot dogs for lunch and saw that massive 20+ hordes of 40+ cm bream were feeding at the surface on bread chucked in by the hot dog stand. Threw in a motor oil zman grub and managed to land a tiny 20cm bream on the first cast which is a pretty good size for my first bream taken on a lure. In conclusion got skunked at Gymea but managed to get a bream during lunch. Cheers, Albert
  9. Yeah the vibelicious are killer on snapper, did you get most of them on the sink? All the snapper I got on my vibelicious were on the drop after I casted.
  10. Yeah man they drop around 1k or a bit more depending on the model I think but guaranteed second hand outbacks are down 1k
  11. Haha, I managed to pick up an outback in seagrass with side scan radar, livewell ,wheels, lifejacket and some other bits and parts for around 7,300
  12. I haven't eaten them as sashimi before but once I caught loads of them around 15 of them, most of them were good but a few of them had tongue parasites on them and when we were cleaning the fish we also found one with a presumed to be parasite in it.( White stripe showing on the flesh) They were caught in the swansea channel at the rsl club and I had a nice sized kingie come right up to the wharf as the yakkas were circling underneath the wharf due to berley. Its really your choice at the end of the day and they still taste pretty nice cooked.
  13. Anyone see the hobie stands? I’m looking forward to buying a hobie tomrrow
  14. Ahh no worries ma’am I’ll be waiting for that day to come.
  15. Ahhh bugger, if only i didn't have school I would definitely go but I hope all you guys have a blast
  16. Hey Raiders, I was wondering if there are still fishraider merchandise like hats or stickers for sale? I would love to get my hands on some and I've found a post from 2008 but the link is broken and leads to nothing. Cheers, Albert
  17. Hey Raiders, Im looking for any suggestions on locations to fish that have some cover to hide from the rain tomorrow, I’ve looked at a few ferry wharfs but I haven’t really decided yet, I’ll be fishing either prawns or pillies with some cat food and bread berley and maybe a soft plastic or two tomorrow.
  18. No idea, I’m on holiday here as well and the two people i have met that fish lures both use tassies one was Simon who was the skipper of my fishing charter who trolls them behind the charter boat at 3-5km/hr and I’m at a farm right now and the guide also likes fishing and she also uses tassies so honestly I’m not sure.
  19. It’s exactly the Kawaru river! I fish the mouth of the Kawaru river and I might try some bait if I can find where to get it as I’m having my last session tomorrow. Here is the place I fish
  20. Nah I still released it as we still haven’t finished eating the salmon my mate bought/caught
  21. Yeah I already visited the canals for around 2 hours and the current was too strong so my mate who’s travelling with us visited the salmon farm and caught one of the farmed salmons and bought it.
  22. Hey Raiders, Went down to the same spot again in Queenstown and fished from 10-12. Casted out tassies and got a bite and a hookup but then it spat it out. Following tradition I returned at 3:30 for another fish and by this time I have already found out the secret of this place. Drift Fishing. I drifted out my tassie and as I was retrieve information my rod suddenly loaded up and hooked onto a good fighting trout which was pulling some line however I lost him as I snagged onto a sunken tree. Two more drops on some good fish and I switched lures and casted out to the middle of the current and as my rod loaded up I immediately knew it was a big fish after a good fight and then wondering if I snagged on because my rod was so heavy I managed to pull out a 50cm brown trout, unfortunately I couldn’t get a photo as I again jumped into the freezing water to collect my fish, it was almost identical to the fish from yesterday but much longer and fatter. Cheers, Albert
  23. Just dropped a decent rainbow, I think I’ve gotta drop one every time before I can land one
  24. I’ll practice this method with Celtics and the tassies as I’m going on a session right now and I’ve gotten use to the area and know where the snags are and where the fish are after some aerial reconnaissance.
