  1. HM I am not aware of the suspect aspect that you are reffering to but in fairness every make and model of boat may this be aluminium or glass will be suspect of something one way or another involving a compromise of some sort's......and is not limited in to how big or on how much money you spend...may I add Mine is a 2002 model....An annoying aspect of this particular model Broadie is what i term to is in having air brakes say for example when travelling home at a comfortable cruising speed of around 20-22 knts when coming down of the back of a wave as the wave piercers are forced into the back of the next wave and just before she wants to rise up and over the wave there is a momenterily braking effect as air trapped in the tunnel has no where to go creating this airbrake effect i made mention to and if caught unawares can throw a person annoyingly forward so i quater it slightly when travelling in a following sea which gets it to Cat walk instead...I can then take her up to 30 odd knts and travel home without so much as even spilling a drink left standing up on the dash......I guess as well as compromise... learning and getting to know in what, and how your boat, handles safely is every bit just as important. Cheers Warnie
  2. I am around the 2.2 tonne mark and are running counter rotating Yamaha 115 XL Four Strokes my economy is reasonable....on a normal day for me out of sydney travelling out from Gladsville to the shelf and beyond keeping in mind my on water hours normally involve a min of 10 hours trolling the majority of the time and i consume around 70-75 litres a side a day......with a fuel capacity of 200 litres a side. I can't fault the yammies bar a few hic ups once from contaminated fuel...the odd sensor here and there other than what has recently gone Kaput in the starter motors with the starboard going firstly and the port going two trips later that been last weekend......I guess you might say that the yammie starter motors may be good for around 2.000 hrs other than that....... the motors are impecably still purring away... Cheers Warnie
  3. HM I may be able to give you some advice of sorts i am currently in a 7.2 broadbill with my boat prior to this one being a 6.0 stessl Yellowfin..... weather conditions aside.....Apples for Apples to be considered but both handle offshore work comfortably..As for the 6 mtr broady v the 6 mtr Yellowfin the Yellowfin gets the nod go up in size though in the Cat...ie to a 7.2 and it becomes a no contest...the cat wins hands down Cheers Warnie
  4. There is no such thing as a silly Question..... the Skeds are normally run over a 2 hour interval in where boats fishing a Tournie or even a club pointscore day for that matter report in over the radio and in this case on VHF 21 by whoever it is conducting the Sked and in this case that was Tournament base out of SGFC a competing boats fishing report applicable to that sked on the day using the 0-0-0 method. For excample if i was to call in a report on the sked of a 1-1-1 Tag and realease of a striped Marlin that is reflected in the first number which is assigned to a strike the second to a hookup and the third being the result of such therefore in the above scenario a striped Marlin firstly has attacked and grabbed the lure resulting in the fish been hooked with the result being the fish was Tagged or captured which ever one it may be. Tournament base would then determine more information in Angler, lineclass, etc and moving along through all the boats entered and starting all over again at the next sked.....This is all accumalated so once fishing is completed at the end of the day all the information for the day is known and recorded. A sked map is held by all boats informing base where the boat via GPS is in relation to this map... for excample..... November 12 to serve both has in a safety... and where all the action is happening... and is given before the fish report...... to not report in and miss two consecutive sched reports is considered a big NO NO.....and can result in all sorts of prochedure's to fall in to place one of which you are considered missing at sea and reported to the Authorities.....sorry to the long responce.. Cheers Warnie
  5. I will leave it to others who may want to do a more comprehensive report A quick rundown after the first day resulted in most of the 32 boats fishing coming across some action from the toothy critters in one way or another. With a flurry of action happening for a lot of the boats between 10am and midday and which I suspect may of well co-incided around the tide change with boats reporting multiple hook ups and sharks visible in and around there burley trails........The prime area was right on top and drifting off Browns Mountain which in no doubt are there as attracted to the inviting meal of either Gemfish or Frostfish that are schooling in the area. The most sharks Tagged by a boat yesterday was a total of 6 Tagged with a Mako of 171 kg being the heaviest Mako weighed in to date.... Junior Luke Chain weighed in a nice Mako of 169 kg... (well done) .....And a nice Whaler along with a Thresher Shark were also weighed in the mix.......Y/Fin Tuna were conspicous by there abscence..... with no Bluefin also being mentioned in any reports for the day.......however a few Albacore did figure... But Today is another day......and all boats will be out again trying to catch that big one...(except me that is I retired late last night due to an engine problem) Cheers Warnie
  6. Poddy Trapper You will be pleased to know that there...sure are some Mako's about and what are getting about will more than likely keep you on your toes....Looking quite foreward to it myself .......all the best aye......hope ya go and get yourself a monster. Cheers Warnie
  7. Dunc 333 Thanks for that info regarding the ramp upgrade as that be the ramp that I pull in and out from......I have been in the fortunate situation up to this point where I can get my crew on and off by simply nosing the front bow spit of the boat to the top of the rockwall allowing whoever to easily walk on or off so it will be looking like i will be enjoying more company as embarking and disembarking from a boat using that ramp seemed to be the single biggest complain and obviously the upgrade will address that problem. I wonder though if they are aware that on the carparkside of the ramp approx one and a half to two boat lengths back from the corner of the ramp there is a nasty section of rock that sits high in the water and is particularly nasty at low tide. With the pontoon running down the centre as shown if that ramp is to get busy with boats occuping the pontoon..etc.... you will find it will result in having the tendency to direct approaching boats or even boats launching for that matter to traverse over that nasty area in with what may end up not being a good result to some. Maybe that side of the ramp is to be reserved for launching only and the other for retreiving.....I don't know could be they will remove the foul area..... any thing been mentioned in that regard Dunc333 Cheers Warnie
  8. Well ........yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just a short walk to obtain them of the plotter on the boat the rest I can't tell you.........as I would have to kill ya. Cheers Warnie
  9. I figure it to be no secret nowadays..........so here ya go Cheers Warnie
  10. Hi Dinnerbell Of about one of the only fish to be caught at browns and considered undesirable for the dinner table as they are worm infested........you have much better chewing options on tap available However I am bit bias though as Ribbon Fish (frostfish) are highly sought as baits for targetting mako shark and when sending back down from whence they come they rarely make it back.... Cheers Warnie
  11. Sure was......and it came through reasonably unscathed.......yes Cheers Warnie
  12. Sam Here is a bit more info for you and anyone interested. They were fishing aboard a 32' Luhres and yes he is a member of SGFC... Interestingly this capture was to be submitted for a record claim on the day only to be blitzed by a run of fish caught out of Bermie over the corresponding period. by fish of a much bigger calibre than even this fish along with this mentioned fish it was not by its self with quite a number of other boats reporting captures or encounters in been smashed and outgunned by these heavyweights of the tuna family...........These encounters took place with a line starting namely from Browns down to the southern canyons and across to Kiama canyons........That associated body of water now looks to of retreated slightly south but with fishing you never know your luck in a big city......and i am hopefull for them to hang around for a little while longer yet. There is no better time than at present if you are intending to go out looking for some providing that is off course that the weather allows in such...This can be what dreams are made of with sentational fishing to be had if it is all to come together. Good luck to any one willing in giving it a go.....I know i certainally will be back out there trying. yes i do have pics of the Fish but of poor qaulity..... Cheers Warnie
  13. Hi Sam-8862 What you heard from somone you know is correct a week gone yesterday a BlueFin Tuna was hooked by an SGFC boat whilst trolling over the southern corner of the Southern Canyons The fish ate a 180MM Laser Pro on 24kg lineclass and the lucky angler's name was Mick and it so happened to be his very first game fish that he has ever caught after getting pulled from side of the boat to the other during the mamoth tussle and hurting in places he never knew he had he then had to contend with also gaffing the fish by himself due to the fact of there only been two on board for the day.........needless to say after subduing the fish and securing it on the boats marlin board they had to go looking for another boat in enabling to give them a hand to get the fish into the boat were the fish later weighed in at 101.4kg.... Quite an inituation to somebody who is new into gamefishing .......a fish no doubt he will remember for a very long time. Cheers Warnie
  14. Hi Sand Grouper The quantity of pillies that you are willing to throw into the water when fish are around the area in numbers with the aim of enticing one of them to swim up to the back of your boat to accept your offering with a hook in it at times can take neither effort nor a thought and pillies can be dispensed by the handful if you wish. It is at a time when the fish just don’t seem to be playing there part is when you need to introduce other parts into the equation with regards to the amount of pillies that you throw over in being able to achieve a result. Most boats I guess are set in their ways and methods with how they see best in doing this and as previously mentioned before....... is that the speed of drift and current will have a big bearing in this part. The accepted norm with cubing is to drop one in just as you start to lose sight of the one dropped in before it. And in a reasonably fast current this will result in you going through many more cubes in keeping up with that unbroken trail . I mention cubes as I know of other boats that swear in only using full IQf’s to this end as opposed to trap bait and may I suggest to you in looking at it in the view that you want the fish to be hungry and eager enough to follow your cube trail all the way back up to the source of origin than as opposed to the fish lazily swimming and having a party with his mates all provided at your expense 300 mtrs back down the trail happily content in staying there getting fat. A popular trait for shark boats when stop fishing at the end of the day is to stop burlying one hour before the baited rods are packed up..... the plan being that if any sharks are present and feeding back down in the trail they may come up looking for the source of that food tap that has just been turned of......This most definitely works and if at the next time that you go cubing for Y/Fin and you have not turned a reel for the day until almost right at the very end (amongst other reasons off course ) the reason most likely is that you have inadvertently slowed the trail up as you draw to the end resulting in bringing the fish to you.........Hopefully that piece of string has become a little shorter for you. Cheers Warnie
  15. Hi Greg As i'm sure you are already aware of....... and that is when you do get them right.............There is nothing much more sweeter music than in listning to the tune of twin motors that are in perfect sync whilst underway....except maybe that could be.......in hearing your tiagra's playing the same tune......... but that's a story for another day. With all considerations taken into account in every respect to as why you would and would not, For me it is at the end of the day there is no more reassurence that could be given in having the knowledge........ (and more so as you said when going wide)......... Of knowing for whatever the reason it was to be that if you where to drop a motor.......Is that you have another one up your sleeve to get you back home with and admittably maybe not as quickly...but comforting none the less to know that you will make the trip back home safely all the same. Cheers Warnie
  16. Frigate The Fin went 75.6 kg and was taken by "Khe Sahn" a Wollongong GFC boat Cheers Warnie
  17. DereckD I feel that having full confidence in your gear and in particular with your knots is an important part of the equation ......Being at that stage of proccedings where taking your gear to it's upper end limits will be required in subduing a stubborn fish.....or no more so evident than if the event is to arise where you find yourself connected to a fish way above the average expected on the lineclass you have presented.. You mentioned the Tony Jones Knot which I myself have full confidence in and have used that knot for connection of 50lb braid to 80lb Pink Ande on the Saltiga outfits for quite a number of years now for very good result interestingly a double in the braid is not utilised by myself rather the braid on the mainline is just simply doubled over to start of with and wrapped around the leader... I suggest you try it and trial it and see how you go with it..... i have use the same application for way heavier leader on marlin and have had no failure with the connection todate. Cheers Warnie.
  18. Hi Mrs Flightmanager In regards to suggestions I could be wrong but have allways been under the impression to not freeze smoked trout as this complety spoils the product........but as I said could be wrong I thought it was reccommended it be best just kept refridgerated...???? anyway I am sure someone could offer there advice on that subject Cheers Warnie
  19. What time will you be launching the boat Mike as I want to make sure i'm there before you (just kidding) I guess it don't matter what ramp you launch at there can all be subject to either Stress, Rage, a Giggle, or all of the above....do you have anybody who could accompany you.....be it not so much as a bodyguard more like to give you a helping hand and confidence boost. Cheers Warnie
  20. Sea Conditions where not excactly the best yesterday but for those boats that braved it yesterday the conditions were what is ideally considered suited to be good Y/Fin weather. All the same though only one nice yellowfin of around the 44kg mark was weighed in with two others getting caught but not weighed due to going under line class. One Bue marlin was weighed in going 148 kg with 3 other marlin being tagged one boat hooked up and lost an estimated 300 kg Blue Marlin which goes to show that there are still some quality fish still around and what I see as a surprise given the cooler water and lack of bait around was one of the boats reporting in that they had hooked up to but unfortunently lost a sail fish which was hooked up out the front in 80 fathoms. Better conditions today with all boats out fishing so will try and update you all as reports come in to hand. Cheers Warnie
  21. SGFC is holding a Major Tournament this weekend so if there are to be any Y/fin around there will be boats fishing out there that are more than capable of coming across them..........I will post a report sunday night if able to let you know on what gets caught Cheers Warnie
  22. Hodgey You assume correctly also whilst on the subject and as shown below not often referred to and mentioned in conversation all that that much but as you can see below one is required to be carried is a fire extingusher a great majority of boats I guess would be unaware of such. (F2): At least one. More are to be carried if potential sources of fire and the size of the vessel require it. Cheers Warnie
  23. Sent: Friday, March 27, 2009 9:24 AM Subject: FW: EPIRB Enquiry - vessels less than 8m The new Marine Safety (General) Regulation 2009 was signed by the Governor and Minister Tripodi on Wednesday 25 March, and will become law on Monday 30th March. That's why you have not been able to find it on legislation.nsw,gov.au. It's only just been made. The previous legislation that dealt with EPIRBS (which will be repealed on Monday 30th ) was the Boating (Safety Equipment) Regulation, and required an EPIRB to be carried on vessels over 8 metres when more than 2nm from shore (Clause 4A(2)) In the Marine Safety (General) Regulation 2009, the length distinction has been removed, and on its face, all vessels are required to carry a 406 EPIRB when 2nm or more from shore. (Clause 84(1) and Schedule 5 Part 1) The Fire Extinguisher requirements are listed here too and attached. The Regulation however does provide some exemptions (Schedule 5 Part 2 - Clause 4) being for PWC, Kayaks, and Canoes (but not outrigger canoes) The legislation quoted above is attached for you. You should also be aware of a press release issued by the Minister on Jan 21 2009 in which he advised that boaters not carrying an EPIRB when required would initially be given a warning rather than a fine, due to a worldwide shortage of EPIRBS, as long as the boater can demonstrate that they have placed one on order. The press releases are available on the front page of the NSW Maritime web site (www.maritime.nsw.gov.au) Click on "more news" to see the older ones. Hope this helps Cheers Warnie
  24. Hi Frank I have come across a couple of the smaller school size fish of late (20-25kg) that have taken a lure meant for marlin and have held conversation with some of my club boats who have been fishing out wide who have remarked on schools of Mid range Y/fin (40-60kg) and in some cases even bigger Fish that they have seen barrelling out the water and moving quite fast in there travels to where ever it is there are travelling to some boats have put time into cube sessions but as yet have not heard to many positives reports resulting from those sessions all though I am making reference in particular to the Sydney Region but hopefully we can all get to hear more reliable reports in the very near future. Cheers Warnie
  25. Dave Change over to a differant method and put the lures on standby for a while if you are to encounter the bait schools in the area you are fishing like the ones you made mention in your first post then swap over to useing live bait and work the bait schools if this is not to your liking try skipping a dead bait ,one off each rigger and also work the area that is holding the bait .I am quite sure that you will find that by employing either one of these two methods it will provide you with a lot better of a chance in obtaining the result that you are looking for. Cheers Warnie
