  1. Hi Kiwi Dan... What Daniel has previously mentioned is all good advice... and i would tell you most definently use mono over the braid.....for a number of reasons and with braid been refered to as often as it has been of late i understand why you would ask... using braid instead of mono will not give you any greater advantage in being able to catch the y/fin that you will be targeting...it may however save you from some nasty line burn (cut) that braid can inflict in the heat of battle.....not saying you but i cringe when i hear of some one just starting out who hasn't had much experiance...... on the cube stripping back with braid....that line is capable of coming tight in your hands in milliseconds......... and a fish that is more than capable of tearing a couple of hundred odd mtrs of line from your reel against 8 kg of drag pressure would have little disregard if that braid so happened to be accidently wrapped around some one's hand..... start with mono at least and get a few under your belt first then take it from there... Cheers Warnie.....
  2. Hi Scon.. Temperature breaks and current lines can best be described as simply as a change in the colour of the water some times as dramaticaly as turning from green to blue sometimes in a distinct line and at other times the transition can be almost undistigushable.... the current flowing down the coastline in summer originating from the Coral sea is an amazing event and to learn a better understanding off it would be for you to google it and read all about it...Those swirly bands of clear lines you can see from headlands when looking out over the ocean is a good excample of current lines but may not nescesseraly indicate a change of temperature you may of heard mention by other raiders of the term SST (sea surface temperature) charts these are used to help best determine were these temp breaks may lie... clear cobalt blue water often contain organasims in the water which can commanly be refered to as "sparklers" hope that helps you a bit Cheers Warnie...
  3. Andy..... From 7pm..in the clubhouse situated on the end of the wharf... Marine parade Watsons bay (just up from doyles restaraunt) chase me up and i will show you around .......or any one else for that matter....see you there Cheers Warnie....
  4. Yes.. does your neck.....it pulls down to roughly the top off your shoulders then you just pull your shirt whatever over it to tuck it all in... like a bug in a rug. try it you will see what i mean.. Warnie...
  5. Sure is............... get yourself a Balaclava that will do the trick Warnie.. PS.get one that comes with the two peep holes for your eyes and one for your mouth... pps. But dont forget to take it off before you stop for petrol on the way home...
  6. Byron.. all the best.... have a good one Cheers Warnie...
  7. Iricangi... Pelican as raised a very relevant observation and you will find that most sprays that are commonly used actually do more harm than good... and in the majority of cases result in denegradation to the line.. a more friendlier product you can use designed in mind to not do the above is CRC Tackle Gaurd... use that with a little bit more confidence... Cheers Warnie.....
  8. Hi ya Alex.. The short answer to the best of my knowledge is i don't think so.. however on the thursday night leading up to that weekend of the tournie a rat pack bunch of die hard's will be meandering there way out to my place were under the guise of preparing to do battle with the mighty mako on the weekend we will be actually throwing half a cow on the barbie and washing it down.. with turkey (wild).that is and talking fishing in general so if you find your self out in this part of the world that night drop in your more than welcome.... I'm sure i could russle up a mullet to throw on the barbie for you.. Cheers Warnie...
  9. Daniel.. use one which is partnered up to the stella purely used for bashing the bottom at browns....... has a great feel and action to it and does the job surprisingly well.. a nice bit of gear.......however the price is getting up there..justification i guess in the spiel by shimano with regards to comparing it to a blue rose, hence the name.. Cheers Warnie..
  10. Am totally surprised that you are experiancing failure to the snap at the point were you have highlighted if you were to open and close it repeatedly i guess fatigue would have to come in to play at some point of the stage but Jee would figure that would have to be after numbering in the hundreds of opening and closing the snap but it's sounding like it's happening at a stage no were near this amount for you yes?????? i assume we talking good qaulity swivel of either sampo,Yo-Zuri or the like.... were they bulk ordered and you have a bad batch of sorts for it sounds quite baffling... With regards to the escape proof swivel i feel you wont find to much better of a result in as much as constent checking of the swivel will be required also if you use a metal ring or armour spring on the top loop of the leader they are apt to impart a leaverage to open slightly......the arms close with a tight tolerance but after repeated useage they have a tendancy to become easy to open and there then lies a possible weak link... i myself use the heavy duty Yo=Zuri ball bearing snaps with no failure to present.. Cheers Warnie...
  11. inhalanzi...... another three that spring to mind sound familiar... ..........Getting to the ramp to realise the boat keys are at home on the bench.. ......... Leaving a gaff in the rocket launcher and subsequently taking out 24 fluro's at the servo ..........and last the classic excample someone attempting to put 245 litres of petrol in the fuel tank (same servo may i add) through the back rod holder not the fuel filler cap..... admit to any of the above....................Nahhhhhhh Cheers Warnie.....
  12. Slinky.... I would imagine you have been spending a bit of time of late trying differant leader knot's in light of what have been suggested to you........ i am confident you will find all to your liking although one in particular will appeal to you above all which is good!!!!!!!! for having confidence in your tackle and in particular knots is paramount so in that regard all good............ being an ex ANSA representive myself all that does for me is reconfirm for me and i couldn't speak for any one else...from that period of time to now that the greater test being trying to succesfully thread the 2lb leader through the eye of whatever its going to go through.....with out biting my tongue off in the process. let me know what you end up deciding on as it's always nice to be able to store the info in the think tank.. Cheers Warnie.....
  13. Nudge... Looks like a nice view to wake up to... you have power via a gennie i sumise.... and does the hoof in take you long..... and last but most importantly...... do the local bottlo and pizza shop do home delivery..... Cheers Warnie...
  14. Slinky Take a seat and sit down tonight and muck around and do yourself a "Tony Jones' leader knot......have used from spiderwire (admittably not quite 2 lb though ) up to the heavyweight class for y/fin and never had dramas.. close to that 100% your looking for................but hell 2lb!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway youv'e nothing to loose and everthing to gain so muck away..... Cheers Warnie....
  15. Thank's Robbie......knew they would be a way of doing it some how... Warnie...
  16. Hi Fisherboy.... Further to what CFD mentioned a particular trait that the mako shark can tend to exhibit when hooked is a penchant for launching its self out the water with what can be a spectacular display... those on Fishraider that have caught a mako or fish for mako's no what im saying..... here lies a catch 22..... excitement takes over and admiration goes out to the fish in this display of powerful jumps to a height to were you watch in amazement and say NO WAY!!!!!!.. the catch 22.....being we all have that thought in the back of our mind is........no way would i like to be under it when it comes down.....i have only experianced it once were a mako has landed in the back of the boat but not from a height.......this be were some of the horror stories can originate and made so much more hallowing if to be experianced from a small boat.....makes you feel vunerable so to speak... but at the same time add's to the excitement....thought you may be interested in this display so you and a few others not inuatiated to one of the tactic's of what can be a reasonably aggresive shark at times... i found this well known pic showing a mako jump to show you of such but am not quite sure if it will post or not...so if it fail's could anyone else oblige.... mako_shark_jumping.doc Cheers Warnie....
  17. Yes it is quite well done...............throwing the rod and reel of the pier was a good start... and seriously if you were one of those other surfers watching that thing coming straight at you.... they would of quickly done the Fred Flinstone..............Yabba dabba do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! let's get the Willma outa here. Warnie.....
  18. Yes well..................so that shark from jaws is still kicking after all lets see him get on his board and do that at brown's..........and then count his toes when he get's back..... Like it all the same steve....... Cheers Warnie....
  19. Hi Ya Byron A lot of sci fi movies as you no doubt are aware of....... base a lot of there story line around the landing of man on mars well we no doubt both remember watching on tv at school that day (well i was) when Niel Armstrong walked on the moon....and then NASA started looking at a manned mars exploration... However i figure our cut price tickets will reach there use by date before that happens.... but maybe those people who make the idea's and have the vision as you say... may very well be able to get it to come together in time for little jewgaffer's cut price tickets... wonder what effect a couple of full moon's would have on the fishing there hey..... Cheers Warnie...
  20. Dave... i have a mate who is retired from the R.A.A.F.... use to fly jet's.....anyways got to talking one night over a bottle of turkey and after listening to a story he told me about what he described with a reported bogey... and if only half of it was the turkey talking then.......WOW..me thinks we not quite alone... anyway back to the sci fi on foxtel (stargate sg1).. Warnie....
  21. After a 676 million km voyage from earth and then to plunge through the mar's atmosphere and successfully touch down in the northern artic circle of mars... well you have to take time to marvel in the enourmous amount of planing it would take to achieve such a feat... I cant help wonder just how forthcoming and truthfull would they be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if the phoenix was so happen to snap a pic of a footprint in the mars soil.... or maybe i have been watching to many re runs of the X files latetly... Cheers Warnie.....
  22. Yep...... I'm also glad to see your on board as well Dennis.... But are you having an each way bet..... to as which boat your deciding to jump on with... Cheers Warnie
  23. Hi Dale... not so much to what to use.... as so much as what not to use!!!!!!!!!!!!! over the last couple of seasons i opted to clean my paintwork with a product called "boat wash" made by (best not mention).....certainaly moved those black marks any diesel grime, blood gut's and anything else you care mention.......trouble is though i reckon i have the streakiest boat finish on Fish raiders site with ease.....so stay away from that one.... also have been useing rain x on the windows in aid to better vision result all window seals rubbers will have to be replaced due to adverse reaction with the product... ........ditto to that one as well... Cheers Warnie...
  24. Willn as johnno mentioned i think it important that you get to sit down with some one and get them to show you the correct way of tying the knot along with you.. then all you need do is practice it untill you get it all down pap...... regardless which connection you end up deciding on... its effectivness will be dramatically reduced if done incorrectly or poorly tied Do you get out west at all ?????? not withstanding what as allready been suggested a leader knot that i use and you will also find easy to do and more importantly retains good strength is called a "Tony Jones" i would be more than happy to sit down and go through it with you...... Cheers Warnie...
  25. Hope to hear of a speedy recovery there Donna and get well soon!!!!!!!!!!!! Warnie.......
