  1. Iricangi.. One brand of pump that i could suggest for you is the Rule brand.... a boat your size would as a rule (no pun intended) have a pump fitted of around a 500 gph to 1000gph but with bilge pumps i feel this is one area were the bigger can be better rule can apply... some boat's have 1500gph and bigger fitted so just for in the event if required a lot of water can be pumped out of the bilge quickly...... you can include rule-a-matic switches to pump out water automaticly on detection in the bilge if required and coupled with a 3 way switch panel is a good and reliable method...how ever a lot of boats simply have there pumps hooked up to a switch on a panel on the dash and is simply activated when required... Your current battery that you are running on board should be able to handle the addition of a bilge pump with no problem... but having a duel battery setup regardless of fitting a bilge pump particulary if venturing outside is a good and practicable idea all the same and is highly recommended..... not quite sure what you mean in regards to your question of fitting a pump above the floor .. fitting instruction's come with the packaging in the pumps and is easy and straight foreward to do... your local boat shop generally carries any bit's and pieces, and hose necessery to be able to install a bilge pump and set it up.... 2. Big Banana.... why would you have a fixed roller?????? well i guess thats why i was offering the suggestion of such i see a hell of a lot been used out there and they all seem to look like there useing fully rollered rods with a rollertip thats fixed... i can see the advantages in useing a 360 degree roller tip and suggest its worth researching into... as for not knowing you have a fish on !!!!!!!!!!!!!! well i doubdt if there is ever a time when i have not known if i have a fish on or not..... for they soon let you know about it.....that is got to be one of the advantage's of been able to directly feel and gauge it when doing by hand.......as for less time reeling up.....you have me there..... in regards to a electric reel translating directly into a better catch rate over a deck winch...... that could be argued till the cows come home.... i contend in the fact it only takes the hard work out of the equation as i said im not into useing them as i cant justify with the cost of the outlay involved.. but thats just my reason behind it...... if electric reels suit the situation better for you then go for it whilst im happy with the catch results provided by my good old winch i will be sticking to such as they adequently do the job for me... Cheers Warnie... .
  3. Hi Big Bob... I'm personally not into the electric reels myself prefering to still do it the labour intensive way.... but i do have a few mates that have used them for quite a few years now and in all cases i have noticed they all have 360 degree roller tips fitted to the rod's.....as opposed to a fixed roller this may be worth you looking into.... in the mean time i have to ask the question i understand that electric reels make the task obviuosly easier but in your eyes do you feel that it translate into a better catch rate????? i myself enjoy the workout with the deck winches and feel that going over to electric may detract and take away what little joy there is in hauling up a feed from 1500 odd foot of water... is it due totally to the effort involved with the winches that you prefer to use rod and electric reel or is there other underlining reason's behind it????????.. Cheers Warnie
  4. Hi all....... Preparing tackle and gear in readiness to travelling down to fish in the yellowfin tournie next week Run by Canberra GFC and held out of bermagui over the weekend 17-19th may.. just wondering who else is thinking about making the trip down south this year... hopefully get to say hello in the marquee at the briefing.... and will be gritting my teeth............. for favourable weather. Cheers Warnie.....
  5. Iricangi..... If you can.... take advantage of getting one made out of aluminium just for the weight factor alone... with a cutting board inserted these are readily available at any size measurements through any kitchen manufactuer for excample there was a recent topic on cutting boards advising were they are available etc just do a search... a drainage point is a nescessity and placed in a back corner and as tonyt suggested wether this be directed into your burly bucket or just allowed to drip over the back transon this will help in keeping the cutting board free of blood and mush etc..a chanell around the cutting board is helpfull to direct all this gunk and a raised section on the back and sides is the norm this help in contains the bait or knives on the board from falling off as the boat moves from side to side a couple off notches at the back to place the knifes upright in becomes handy and as you stated a draw under for nic nac's etc is allways handy... Two things of importance and crucial to be aware of.... is a comfortable working height and make sure it is rigid and sturdy for if you need to grab it when off balance the last thing you want is for it to come away from it's mounting position in your hands Cheers Warnie..
  6. Hi joel... Sorry tend to disagree with you on that one......... .have yet to see someone who is feeling that sick that they have to lie down........actually bounce back up if they do there back down pretty quickly... on the other hand when that feeling of uneasyiness comes on a person..if you stand as best as you can upright and train your eyes on the horizon and breath in the fresh air... that seems to work much better on those that are affected i feel.... Cheers Warnie....
  7. Incidently.... very early on in years when first introduced to fishing from a boat i went through a period of been seasick every time i went fishing regardless of the conditions after near on two years of putting up with this i decided that i loved my fishing but had to come up with a better alternative.....so of to the doc i go..i told him apart from the syptoms of being obviously crook this would also continue into monday were at work i was tired run down and felt like crap explained i was taking kwell's and washing it down with coca-cola...copious amount's actually so he ran some test's on me....... it turn's out what i thought was seasickness was actually a reaction to Hyscocine (think its spelt like that) the main ingrediant in that tablet... and it would be best trying an alternative containing an antihistamine so i did the first one i picked up in my hands which was dramamine... and have never been sick on a boat from that time on.......as for the crapiness i was feeling the day after it it so happens i was just reacting from coming down from the huge high i was experiancing from all the sugar hit......the copious amounts of coca-cola that is....and changing to diet coke for me fixed that problem..... along with what as all ready been said getting confidence in a remedy that works for one self is vitually important hence my horror to when i heard that dramamine has been discontinued... the truth of the matter for me is i would like to think that i now pocess sea leg's and it won't affect me....but for the mere fact of just taking one tablet before i go fishing i have never wanted to take the chance.... so as for the alternative options available as you have allready guessed i am all ears... but for those of you that still suffer may i suggest that maybe a simple change of tablet may just make all the differance..... Cheers Warnie...
  8. Hi Dan... they sound like worth a go... only problem for me would be that i would be worried about confusing them with my M&M's.. let me know how it works out for you... Cheers Warnie...
  9. Chopper... I take one dramamine religously at breakfast before every fishing trip now for as long as i can ever remember and that adds up to a few dramamine let me tell you.. so you can imagine to my surprise when asking for them at the chemist during the week when they told me they are no longer available on the market........so i guess it will be travelcalm for me in the future so to any budding pharmicists out there could anyone tell me what would now be the closest alternative sea sickness ingredient wise that is available....... im thinking travalcalm would i be correct????? Cheers Warnie...
  10. Daniel... as clifford said the water was very green and uninviting apart from the one striped marlin taken wide of the bait station i heard of............... all other radio chatter was about the scarecity of fish even the boats who pushed out as far as heatons didn't see a thing..... it's just gonna be a waiting game unfortunently untill things pick up.... Cheers Warnie... .
  11. Stocko boy.........Whooooooo there Don't get to overly excited just yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! apart from tomorrow the rest of the days will more than likely be accompanied with winds that will blow dog's of chain's. maybe getting the kite out of mothball's could be an option.. Cheers Warnie...
  12. Roberta... well okay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! got agree with you this time..... but seriously in regards to up your way..... how could they get it wrong I mean it has not let up for you in that part of the world by the sounds of things since i left up there after xmas.... Maybe the tourist literature given out by the nsw goverment should change it from the sunny north coast to the rain sodden coast. how they still work out i can't wash the mud of my driveway with a garden hose as got me miffed when they keep mentioning in regards to the rain of the records that keep getting broken of late or as that as it been changed back i seem to hear little of the restrictions been talked about in the media much nowadays.. Cheers Warnie...
  13. Not so much me been asked but One question i seem to ask every time i'm at the ramp which is both annoying and helpfull goes some thing like this...... Okayyyyyyyyyy where have you put the flaming WINCH handle........ Cheers Warnie

    Gps Accuracy

VA911 no prob's i have had to rely on the accuracy of my gps on quite a few occasions mainly in the dark early morning... with well known hazards and running up a channell following a course layed out on the plotter which i can call upon when required.... off course not wanting to put my total reliance on gps but at the same time it needs to have a better than a 10 mtr tolerance to get me through with out getting to close.... not saying what you have said is wrong its only for me....... as yet a 10mtr or more variation hasn't presented its self One contradiction to that though for me is an area just north east of broughton island for whatever the reason i am not able to maintain satelite lock and the compass goes to pot whether this is any thing to do with williamstown air force base or not couldnt tell you but particularly when the fighters do there mock training all the electronics on board the boat go haywire including the radio i guess its some sort of electronic interferance they are running...... on that particular day they both broke the sound barrier right above me and fair dinkum i nearly crapped my pants..... Cheers Warnie...

    Gps Accuracy

VA911...... just out of interest everytime i go out fishing i test my plotter out in relation to were the cursor shows were i am ...in relation to were i know i am..... against immoveable objects.....headlands etc... in 6 yrs and all the times i have put this unit to the test it has never wavered a fraction... whether it may be that what you pay for is what you get and cheaper units might not be as reliable i couldn't say... however i can assure you every time i have gone to fish browns mountain for excample i am yet to find it's gone missing.....so to how much it is actually is out,,,,,for my unit i would have to say by not very much..... Cheers Warnie....
  16. Sure look like it.......... yes to your question.......our bonito as we know them look differant yet again..... crikey's i was to slow again Cheers Warnie.....
  17. [quote name='Le Pasha' date='Apr 15 2008, 11:43 PM' post='234056' I haven't targetted blues specifically, so I guess the best way is trial and error......just after some opinions on how others rig their lures Cheers, tight lines Daniel Hi Daniel... I certainaly am no authority on blues..... other than on one occasion i do not specifically target them as such.. the time when i did specifically target them co-incided whist i was holidaying and fishing up north at xmas before last We were lucky enough to experiance a hot bite on blues for a week and quickly worked out they had a penchant for the lumo express on the long rigger... stripes were around also but preffering the shottie with this in mind we set our spread to suit and proceeded to tag 9 blues in the 5 days on standard as you come rigged lures on 24kg with no problems with such with the blues averaging from 120-160kg.... anyways on our final day with the seas glassed out happily purring along when the shottie snaps off and a blue greyhounds off into the horizon were we expected to never see him again... With the classic scenario of only mtrs left remaining on the spool and now deciding we should maybe take chase we do so and recover back most of the line as we draw closer to the marlin we see he is going nuts wildly head shaking, wind screen wiping, and swimming around madly in one tight circle all on the surface kindly doing this for around 10 min's untill exhaustion set in, were at that stage we simply drove over and popped the tag in..... Grabbing hold of the fish were he obligingly swam along with us.....the hooks easily popped out and these being light gauge SL12's....in perfect condition... (what the) far from being the preffered option and not what i would advocate....we estimated that one at around the 250 kg mark a great fish...and being only two of us on board this precluded any pic's of the fish being taken which i would of loved... talking to some of the boats in sydney game and one in paticular who do target them have there twin hook rigs made up with s/steel welding rod as opposed to wire and swear by it..... this off course makes it stiff rigged....looks neat to.... proberly not the info you seek but thought i would start it off all the same... sorry not quick enough to start it off..... Cheers Warnie...
  18. Spot on Robbie........In all honesty if i am to go for a fish on some one's boat or for that matter some one has a fish on mine...... Interest is allways directed at that boats sounder to gauge it's performance either with or against with what that person is useing themselves or familiar with............it's only human nature i can tell you that you can get 4 differant people on my boat all who own there own sounders who will all say Geee...... it dosen't show up on mine like that .....or no mine show's up as a differant colour....... not wishing to pit a brand of sounder against each other.... as i said.... more so in trying to better understand in what your sounder is showing you..... not withstanding what col mentioned to reading the manual and on water time for this is important.. But maybe more pics of what robbielites has shown of say. For excample...... kingy's schooling on twelve mile reef.. Blue eye cod and gemmies schooling on the dropoff at browns Snapper on the outer edge of a reef... or just as simply a school of yackas in the harbour... all a valuable tool and a helpfull guide for those in paticular trying to come to term's with understanding there sounder.. i'm sure it would be of little trouble to post some of my own when the situation is to arise ... as i am sure other's would try and do like wise.... as i mentioned just a thought....... Cheers Warnie..
  19. A topic that keep's getting brought up quite regularly and of interest to quite a lot of raiders is the subject of sounder readings.... as a picture is worth a thousand words as they say a lot of raiders are quite unsure at times after spending a lot of money on a sounder and the question continually arises in the fact being.........is what i am are seeing on my sounder similiar to what others are seeing on there sounder.... interpretation of what the sounder is showing is of vital importance and after looking at a pic shown of what another raider's sounder is showing with a brief explanation of such generally is all that is required for that person to gain a better understanding Hopefully this can help clearly illustrate and help switch there lightbulb on..... and enable them to gain a better and easier understanding of there sounder...... Just a thought...... Cheers Warnie....
  20. Daniel... in answer to some of your questions other species you are likely to encounter whilst dropping there but to name two are Hapuka and Bass Groper Regards to. C Like most fish they can be there in numbers or conspicious by there absent yes they do get specifically targeted and plan b then would be to revert to y/fin and mix the two... Best advice i can offer is............... join a gym for you need to have arms like popeye!!!!!!!!! Cheers Warnie...
  21. Smokinjoe use Locktite 401 (skirt adhesive) has good strength .......and will do the job Cheers Warnie ......
  22. Hi Roberta... How you say we give it a test run.......tread the water so to speak!!!!!! come friday we can check the recorded rainfall sydney has received and see how it stacks up in relation to the 10 mm a day....yes. Cheers Warnie...
  23. Ant... and dave (off tap) Bad luck on not being able to get on the board in the tournie ...it get's harder at this time of the year as the beakies start to thin out... What is encouraging though !!!!!!!!! is the increasing number of mid range Y/fin that are starting to show up in report's both north and south of us..... at least auger's well for a promising y/fin season and i am sure there will be plenty of raiders out there rubbing there hands together in anticipation with that prospect !!!!!!!! Cheers Warnie....
  24. Daniel.... i know it doen't show up clearly but if you look closely..... is there a lure......yes ???????? hanging in the gob...the one it was caught with i would presume... Cheers Warnie.....
  25. Col... as you are aware the result for the day can be greatly improved by reading the situation and adopting differant tactics on the day if need be.....and saturday being a good excample in case.... the game plan was to locate bait at or around the baitstation area and work that area with what we jigged up... however finding bait for us..... how i wanted it to be found that is..... was just not happening so worked the area with plastics to cover ground looking around.......hence came across stripes going 4-2-1 and really should of changed over to switching early on in the day and most likely would of converted that into 4 fish and maybe raised more in the process....a wrong option for the day on my part for i should know better that when stripes are crawling over plastic like that it can have a reasonably low conversation rate...with switching enjoying a much better result.... hopefully that should paint a mental picture of the days proccedings for you.... Cheers Warnie.....
