As I've said in other topics I just bought my first Stradic(s) last week and while it's a fantastic reel I have a gripe already, the maintenance port.
The plastic is so weak that even with a wide flat head screwdriver it digs into the sides of the slot.
I had to remove the gnarled bits with a razor blade and sand the top with 2000 grit sandpaper.
They should have made it out of aluminium.

thoses barbs are carbon thats why there black and they are very very sharp and stay like it for a long time
I thought they were stainless steel and the black shaft infront of each spine set was carbon.
very high quality jigs mate, wait till you see the foil light up on some of the colour patterns
They seem so and I've been told the foil lights up beautifully on them.
guess it depends where you want to use them.
I chase squid in Sydney Harbour, Pittwater and Swansea.
I've always used #2.5 with excellent results, though I've often wondered if I'd catch more if I used a #1.8 jig.
-
I wasn't sure about the dark spines, but most of the Japanese manufacturers are using them.
-
I'm going to try out the Harimatsu jigs and see how they go.
I think they have a better colour range than the Yamashita jigs, I like the weed/clear blood and aji/gold colours.
-
I'd like to get the La-Me cloth but they're harder to find in the colours I want.
-
Mate I would go the Yamashita, any of the glows and naturals but don't go paying that amount, your local tackle shop should have them from 14-20 dollars.
The Live Warm Jacket model is around $22-$28 at most stores, cheaper to buy direct from Japan.
I was looking at the neo trad cloth rainbow base models in pink, orange and brown/olive.
-
I've seen Flash Prawn in every size except 70mm.
-
I can't decide on which one to go with, any opinions on either would be helpful.
I'll be buying them from overseas to save money, I don't feel like paying $30-$45 per jig.
-
Bloody nice catch mate.
-
mate how much do you pay for the sunline?
It was $39.95 for 150m.
-
I'd also like to know what it is, my Dad caught one years ago in the harbour.
-
they no longer sell my favorite colour in the flick baits either
Which colour?
-
Mull-oway are my favourite fish.
Oh man that was terrible.
-
Also the quality of the colouring and patterns seems to have lessened, it's quite disappointing.
-
I bought three packets of the 110mm Squidgy Pro Flick Bait a few years ago and today when I finally found a store that had the one colour I didn't have I noticed a difference in size.
The ones I first bought measure in at 125mm and the ones I bought today measure in at 110mm and the belly is smaller.
Has anyone else noticed this?

I bet he was huffing anf puffing after pulling that up, then he passed it on the left hand side.

I got the 20lb "Power Pro" By a company that I don;t know of... I think 20lb is taking it to far now that I think about it, but oh well!
Power Pro is put out by Shimano.
I was going to get the Sufix gore braid but they didn't have any.
I've only ever used Nitlon but I've been wanting to try Sunline for some time now, I'll see how it goes.
-
Great reel and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
I'm sure I will, I've been dreaming about stradics since I was a teenager.
As soon as we get a new deep cycle battery for the Watersnake I'll be hitting the harbour and hopefuly test it out on some trevs, snapper or any kings that are still hanging around.
-
I had the primary spool filled with 15lb Sunline Super PE and the secondary with 10lb Momoi Hi-Catch Zex.

So the other day I picked up my very first Shimano Stradic 2500FI, this being the first high end reel I've ever owned, and today I picked up another!
I was out at a tackle store to pick up some jig heads when during discussion about the Shimano Symetre reels that were on special I was told that in a week or so they were going to be slashing the prices of the Stradic FI's because the new model is going to be out soon in the original white colour.
They had the 2500 and 3000 models down from $210-$220 to $150 and at that price I not only grumbled that I paid an extra $35 a few days ago but I exploded with excitement as he let me have it for $150 today.
I didn't check the prices of the larger models as I wasn't interested in them, but I can only imagine that they would have a similar saving.
I'll be replacing my Shimano Exage 4000FA that's on my soft plastics kingy rod with the Stradic, I'm about as excited as Big Kev.

Wonder what bait he used?
A roll of hundred dollar notes.
-
I hope his insurance covers random whale attacks.

Hey Mr Squidy, just wondering why exactly you prefer mono over braid when chasing squid? I run 12LB braid with 12LB flouro leader and it does seem to do the job fine...
Just curious, thats all
Taken from the Fishraider article: http://www.fishraider.com.au/fishing-articles/squidding-sydney-harbour.php
Now here’s the theory… using ‘stretchy’ mono creates a shock absorber making it less likely you’ll ever have slack line between you and your squid. Because of the ‘pulsing’ way a squid fights and the barbless jags, any slack will let the jags drop out of a hooked inker. -
That's one catch I wouldn't be telling anyone about.

Also when I removed the rotor there was a tiny dark grey plastic washer about 5mm in diameter stuck to underside near the bail trip lever.
It isn't on the exploded diagram, I took the rotor off the other 2500FI and there wasn't one.
