  1. Yeah I don't like the idea of dropping squid due to slack line with braid, mono all the way.

I was looking at getting a Berkley Egi Master, but when the guy at the stackle store said he'd give me the Nitro for $250 instead of $300 I couldn't say no.

Besides my Daiwa Interline Sealine-X and Daiwa Sealine SL50SH, which has been gathering dust since we sold the boat and now fish inshore only, this is the most expensive setup I've ever owned.

  2. Authorities are still very concerned that people are collecting them for consumption and strongly advise against it.

I can't beleive people would do that, they may as well start eating out of the garbage while they're at it.

  3. After getting a better look at the Shimano Sehpia and looking at the Berkley Egi Master, Okuma X-Factor and some other egi rods I'm definitely be going with the Berkley Egi Master.

Without looking into the Japanese egi rods the Berkley Egi Master, in my opinion, seems to be the best of brand name egi rods available.

I'm kind of disappointed with the build quality of the Sephia as it's not as good as I initially thought, it's like the "deisnged by Ian Miller" label isn't carrying the weight it used to or shimano are slapping the label on any rod to garner a high price tag.

  4. Thanks for the link.

hi mate have a look at the 1000fmlci4 its made for squid fishing and will match the rod perfict also the drag on 2500ci4 is a bit heavy for a squid to pull line off even with the drag on the lightest drag setting

My original plan was to get a 1000 size but I decided to go up to a 2500 or 3000 so I could swap my reel between rods.

After reading a few topics and posts on here I've decided to go with the FI model, 65 grams weight difference isn't that big a deal for me and I want an extra spool without having to go buy one.

I was inspecting the 8ft sephia rod yesterday and while it was absolutely beautiful I've also been considering a Berkley Egi Master.

  5. I'm looking at putting together a setup purely for targeting squid and I was wondering if anyone on this forum has used both of those reels and can give me the pros and cons.

I know they're essentially the same reel, but I'm sure the new material and weight of the CI4 change the characteristics.

Going to match it up with a Shimano Sephia AU Egi rod.

  6. Hi ReLapse,

I get all my Carbontex washers from Smooth Drag in the USA. Sad to say but better prices, more comprehensive range, better service and faster delivery than anywhere you'll find locally.

    Cheers, Slinky

Thanks mate though after looking at their site I am still at a loss to which ones I need.

  7. I've been in hibernation and haven't fished in quite a while, went into hibernation on here also, and in preparation for coming fishing session I decided to give my reels a service.

I've been wanting to get some Carbontex drag washers for some time, but I have no idea where to buy them or what ones I need.

I am currently using a Shimano Exage 4000FA and a Shimano Exage 6000FA.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

  8. I use 110mm Squidgy Flickbaits for flatties, 140mm for kings and I use Squidgy Wrigglers and Stealth Prawns for everything else with the S-Factor attractant.

I love the flickbaits as they put all the control in your hand, the only problem is that they are quite narrow and are easily chomped but with 10 or so per pack for $10 they're pretty cheap.

I use then in pilchard, pearl, slimey, flash prawn and evil minnow.
