  1. Ohh and forgot I always use a lighter leader than my main line. My old salt friend RIP Jim used to fish only mono and would tie on a heavier leader at the end for abrasion resistance only. If he spooled the reel entirely with the heavier line he was using for the leader he would not have as much line as using a lighter line with only the leader being a meter or 2 to give him the resistance to abrasion. Not sure if that was everyone's reasoning but it makes sense. I don't subscribe to the theory btw. Bear
  2. ok I'll add my 2cents For the species the OP mentions they are targeting I would suggest the uni to uni knot for the braid to leader ( or trace). More than ample. FG if not (lol) tied properly can cause grief where the uni is easy and strong enough. Fluro vs Mono Fluro doesn't have the elasticity of mono so it stretches but doesn't spring back as good as mono does. However why I use Fluro is that for a given rating Fluro is typically thinner in diameter than equivalent mono and heaps harder , stronger against abrasion caused failures. Fluor is almost invisible underwater as well. I noticed once that when using 4lb fluro I was catching more squid than my son who was using 4lb mono tied direct no leader. We tied a fluro leader to his line same as mine and first cast he was in the squid. Could be coincidence but seemed at the time that the squid certainly could see his mono. BTW he's converted and runs Fluro leaders now too. Bear
  3. I would echo what most have said above. My opinions in a nutshell DJI simply is the only option if you want decent photos at this time. Phantom 4 Pro- Awesome machine with the pro version 1" sensor really good but size along with the other phantoms is not small. Mavic Pro - Really good camera ,(not as good as Phantom 4 pro) fold up so it is smaller than Phantom Mavic Pro II - as good as the Phantom 4 if not better but more costly from what I've seen folds up nice Mavic Air - What I currently have arguably better camera than Mavic Pro I but not as good as Mavic Pro II or Phantom 4 Pro (slightly less range that you won't notice if you follow CASA rules only if you go for range tests beyond 4k lol) Spark - Toy,,, works but camera is 1080p Older Phantoms ok but no where near today's stuff Bear
  4. I guess it's like fishing. What do you want to do with it?
  5. I've been flying RC aircraft for a number of years no Mrs Swordy. I've been flying camera and racing drones for the last 5 years what do you need to know? Bear
  6. I think that location is key. Some areas one might show more detail than another for a given plotter. Throw in the wrench that Garmin just bought Navionics so we will see how that fares in the future. Bear
  7. In the early 80s when I was a teenager I worked my summers on charter boats on Lake Michigan in Wisconsin USA. We always used downriggers, outriggers and planing boards. Good fun it was. We only targeted salmon. have any of you tried these ? Downriggers Bear
  8. Pics guys, put some pics up of these lures Bear
  9. We used to get heaps of arrows off Bundeena wharf at night before they posted no fishing on the wharf
  10. You are in the water when you took these pictures yes?
  11. I want to get my son catching more fish. We will be targeting big Flathead, Snapper and Kingies. Bear
  12. Cheers mate. I thought I knew of most all the ramps in the Hacking and your pic wasn't familiar. Nice looking ramp though.
  13. Hey Busy, We get a lot of squid out of the Hacking. Which ramp is your picture at? Bear
  14. Gee that sux,, hopefully you get into the fish tomorrow. Does the traditional 2d sonar still work? Bear
  15. Ohh btw yes I changed my user name. I've been on here for 13 years and didn't think Noo2Oz was fitting any more. OK found a new boat that I want to purchase. It didn't have the max size motor and I wanted that. Dealer was happy to order in a new motor to hang on the back. Dealer states normally when ordering a new motor it must be paid for in full prior to their ordering it. Price sorted Deposit made What usually comes next? Should I pay half (which covers the cost of the motor) and the other half when the motor comes in? Pay all now? It is a new boat with a new motor should I request a sea trial before delivery? it's only a 4.99 tinny however I want to do things correctly. Cheers Bear
  16. We just had a discussion on Crabbing Here . I was curious on handlining them too. Bear
  17. Hope you catch heaps mate!!! ohh and your motor keeps running too lol
  18. Have you done a comparison quote with Club Marine? I have Used NRMA on my last boat and we have 10 policies with them over 30 plus years too. I got a quote on insurance for a new boat I was looking at from both NRMA and Club Marine Club marine's coverage was $300 less than NRMA for me per year. Could be where we live and all that too. I have to keep a boat on the street unfortunately. Bear
  19. You should start your own repair service Fab.. Your attention to detail far exceeds most shops I imagine
  20. I learned to fish catching carp. My family was very poor when I was young and we would eat them if I caught them. I fished every day after school and chores. I’m not sure how my Grandma prepared them but they didn’t taste bad. That said Grandma being from Norway we ate lots of fishy foods. Bear
  21. Good luck Fab. Keep us posted on what you find Bear
