  1. Hard to tell if they're still in the egg, could be anything....
  2. Hi Matt, There are many places throughout the harbour where you can get squid and yakkas. Most common is near the island at balmoral for mainly yakkas but sometimes too squid and pretty much the whole shoreline on that side right around to the harbour bridge can produce squid. Sow and Pigs and channel markers will probably find you schools of yakkas or slimeys if you burley up. Good Luck, Josh
  3. Sounds good Roberta, i think the prices on some of those lip grips is ridiculous. What was the max. weight that one goes up to? Josh
  4. Just remember though tentonner that braid breaks at a higher capacity than its says it does (in most cases) so you can afford to have a heavier leader than braid mainline, that way you'll get a little bit extra abrasion resistance. Josh
  5. Mate don't know if this will help but we were up at Dunk Island about this time last year which is just slightly north of Hinchinbrook and the fishing was at its best this time of year. Fishing over the wrecks and reefs offshore provided some awesome reef fish, GT and shark action and i would definitely recommend venturing out deeper to throw some poppers at GT's if you get the chance. Good Luck Josh
  6. well done mate, must feel good to do well on your first trip out. Thats one of the first reports i've heard of an undersize king being caught, maybe the rats are starting to come into the harbour. Get a water temp? Cheers Josh
  7. Thats pretty lucky Great story and first post nonetheless Josh

    Boats

Dat, Like Elliot said do some research and make sure that you know exactly what you're going to be using the boat for in terms of location, purposes other than fishing, fish you'll target etc... We have a poly boat, its a Triumph boat from the US and we really like it. I believe that poly boats are the smoothest riding and they by far require the least maintenance due to the strength of the hull. I won't type the website in because it will probably get blurred out but put Triumph boats into a search engine or you tube and you will see the videos that show how amazingly strong they are. Good luck with your selection, Cheers Josh
  9. Well done Miller, it is annoying to see boats next to you doing better than you are. 10 squid is plenty for our trips... Josh
  10. Harry, my brother has some 14lb on one of his baitcaster's, i've used it quite a few times and have had it snap midline about 4 times when being cast and i was only using a small halco popper and soft plastic with 3/8 jig head on each occasion which has put me right off it. Josh
  11. I saw birds working over that way about 830 this morning on the train to school and assumed they were kings feeding....maybe they were and then the dolphins came and got into them. Saw pics of the dolphins on the news, when we were out on the harbour about a month ago, the dolphins popped up right in front of our boat as we were going under the harbour bridge, would've made a nice picture......needless to say the kings weren't there that day. Josh
  12. Nice work, Ray. Good to see a father and son getting into it. I think that might be a Tarwhine not a bream. Josh
  13. They've been a bit sporadic over there, saw birds working over that way on the train going to school this morning, then i saw video of dolphins there on the news so i doubt they would've been there that long. Sent you a PM mate. Cheers Josh
  14. Has the full report been posted yet guys or have i just missed it somehow? Cheers Josh
  15. Well done on some great fish Tim. What a difference a private charter makes, we've been out on shared charters up there and they've been terrible. Get any pics? Josh
  16. Too bad you didn't get what you were after. Catching something that size on 6lb line is a bloody good effort, i've had that feeling of is it a reef or what?? quite a few times, more often than not turns out to be some sort of shark. Hopefully next week.... Josh
  17. Imagine what it would be like seeing that coming up next to the boat. What a lucky kid, pretty damn hard to top that now...

    The Past

You're a lucky guy Greg to have experienced all of them. Putney to Manly in 12min is crazy, sounds fun though What's the new boat? Or are you keeping it secret? Josh
  19. Thats a bit odd. Haven't seen pilchards caught other than by net before....interesting. It does seem like a kingy or something may of been trying to herd them up but why you didn't see anything bigger or feeding makes it even more weird. Thought it was a bit early for the pillies, should hopefully mean plenty of pelgaic action Josh

    Big Cobia

Geez, thats one serious fish, well done on getting it in. Nice photos too. Josh
  21. What a crazy fish, weird something like that so close to shore, would want to swim over the top of that at a beach. Imagine if there was an earthquake now....
  22. The salmon are more often taken on lures than on bait, this is usually when they are feeding on the surface and the best way is to throw small metal slices in amongst the school and try a variety of retrieves. Otherwise trolling rapala cd7s and cd9s can be successful, i particularly like the pilchard pattern. Baits they will take a live yakka or squid but they don't hold around structure such as pylons and bouys like kingfish so it can be harder to specifically target them with bait. Josh
  23. The best way to do this is to snell the top hook and tie the bottom hook on with a double uni. I know its not ideal but i've done it successfully with a 4/0 or 5/0 wide gap mustad worm hook. Its quite a long hook so you can point it up to try and keep the leader away from the yakka where it'll get bitten. Also it will hook the fish in the side of the jaw most of the time, decreasing chances of biting through. You could always use a little length of wire to attach the bottom hook but when you are targeting kings mainly it isn't worth it as they will shy away from wire. Good Luck Josh
