  1. I know its already been bought but the stabi would be more stable at rest, but the surtees is a better boat in every other point possible though
  2. main point is has to be done before being put in the water for the first time the gal coat is there as a sacrificial coating, not to stop contact of salt water with the steel underneath. if the rust is showing through the gal all your doing is sealing the rust in with a hard coating the environment the trailer is stored in also helps break the gal down quicker. lawns are bad due to the constant moisture coming from the ground I had mine stored in a garage that was quite humid as the wifes uses the clothes drier for a few hours every day and the gal reacted quite quickly on a brand name trailer same as under heavy tarps
  3. aluminium can cause as much of a issue as stainless as I guarantee its not the same the hulls made from over size all holes, use a rubber gasket, use duralac or sikaflex (I refer duralac even though its messy) nylon washes under the nuts
  4. a tin of carbycleaner will not properly clean a carb or all the galleries I put mine for motorcycles, karts in a ultrasonic cleaner for a few hours then put new kits through them.

    dog and pfd

in the wording it says all occupants, a dog is considered a occupant and equal to a adult. that was from waterways office when I called about taking my dog and clarification of the rule so in their rule book when it says all occupants have to xyz the dog is included

    life jackets

on your own and at night is considered "heightened risk" so even in a 12m boat you have to have a life jacket on at all times
  7. what if they need doing ? yamaha dont put them there just for laughs
  8. id be going as huey says with the 35 and consider the 40 a addition by a previous owner its all in the licence book we had to read to get our licences http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/docs/sbh/SBH2011_Part1.pdf page 12 bottom left the fine for exceeding the compliance plate is $500 i cant remember how many penalty units it is What engine power does the boat need? Boats have both minimum power needs and maximum power limitations. Don’t overpower a boat to gain more speed – a bigger engine may be unsafe by unbalancing the boat and lowering the freeboard. it is an offence to fit an engine that exceeds the manufacturer’s specifications.
  9. you would need a 80pd unit bass boats are low sided so wind doesnt affect them as much a 5.3m tinny or glass boat can have a huge area to catch wind and 54pd will just struggle or need to be run at high settings to do anything
  10. you will get more metres for your money with a tiller, also a more versatile boat with more room inside it. tillers are not sketchy unless over powered, extremely unbalanced weight distribution or a major setup issue also sitting up the front in small boats is as comfortable as being bashed in the kidneys by mike tyson even the old fat modern mike tyson. for a few thousand more you can get many 3.9 - 4.2m boats new with a yamaha, merc or suzuki 2 stroke. the engine can be considered the most important part and how its looked after will determine how many years it will last, i hate buying other peoples problems or the results of their neglect huey has the buster basically a big dingy type hull or you could get a 390 explorer v nose punt with a 15hp for 8k from various places add a electric motor and go chase anything bream bass flatties kings in th ebay
  11. tell us your total budget and will be easier to recommend something but a 4.2m open dingy with a 25-30hp outboard of a major brand will only set you back around 8k new with safety gear. add a bimini for shade and your set can fish rivers bays and duck outside on good days
  12. easiest option is to ring a dealer who sells these or sold these they can tell you where and where to avoid issues drilling through the transom Trim tabs do something a foil or permatrim cant ,they level the boat as some boats lean into the wind so its nice to be able to straighten it up depending on swell wind direction

    New boat advice

browns is a big ask in any sub 6m boat and when look at 5.5 6m boats 100hp isnt going to be enough a better idea for browns is to make friends with someone with a larger boat who needs a extra crew member to help with fuel and set your boat up for the majority of the fishing you do.
  14. some stone guards are useless all they do i sbounce the rocks into the rear of your car. not a solution just something to be aware off
  15. also factor in you will need to spend another $300 $200 for battery $100 for circuit breaker and cabling
  16. good friday with good weather it will be the busiest day the bay ever sees, it wll be like fishing in the middle of the m5 at 6am on a monday lol

    Rosehill Boat show

have it pre greased and wrapped in glad wrap then in a plastic back can change a hub in minutes the real catch is how quickly you stop or notice the previous one has failed if the stub is damaged you could easily do a nother one within a short period of time
  18. i recently bought a used yamaha that the transudcer had been spraying salt up onto the end result was a fair bit of salt inside the cowling warm water kind of cleaned it up but the saltaway after 2-3 cleans brought it up looking like new
  19. to be fair the three months service is normally free ive never paid for a first service on any engine ive bought and unless mechanically competent any outboard needs to be looked at every twelve months by a service person prop off and seals checked re grease the spline etc fuel filters and lines checked all pivot points greased and so on also any decent mechanic will also check over the trailer and include the trailer in the service, well at least check the lights and check the bearings. my understanding and happy to be corrected is etecs just run a oversized gearbox allowing more oil which allows greater service intervals and they run a nikasil bore which allows the no run in period to occur one bit that confuses me though is i run brp rotax kart engines with nikasil bores and i still have to run those in, if you dont we only get 5-10 instead of 20 hours out of a piston and rings
  20. or just too many people pulling fish from the bay in the last 3 years ive noticed a lot more people using new techniques to target flatties and snapper etc. it can only hold so many fish
  21. i assume the boat is aluminium ? what brand and total weight, on a 5.6m boat id be expecting 115-150hp underpowered means you dont have enough grunt to hold onto the wave in front of you, or taking an excessivley long time to get on the plane thi scan be dangerous crossing a bar or trying to get home when it turns rough underpowered means it will chew the juice when moving as you have to ring its neck to get resonable speed it would troll on bugger though
  22. top speed is generally the same between 2 and 4 stroke as long as the gearpox ration and prop is the same its holeshot or acceleration that differs. i dont think you can go wrong with the yamaha ive owned and no many with this same engine. and yes the weight is correct
  23. quality bearings are not $10 each, go to cbc and get skf bearings. cheap bearings are shite bearings and bearing buddies where does the grease disappear too if you have to pump it after every trip ? all you are doing is blowing out the back seal, as the bearing buddy is a finite space and grease will only compress so much. ive seen so many stuffed bearings where the owner had bearing buddies and the inner bearing is rusted and buggered but the outside one looks pristine Just put decent seals in with a clean surface and check them as often as need be, every 6 months if heavy use every twelve months if little use you can also have overheating issues if the bearing is fully packed, as the grease liquifies under heat and sloshes around. it cannot do this if the hub is crammed full
  24. he may not have put it in park just backed it to far onto the slippery stuff and down it went plenty of options, highly likely operator error
  25. i dont know ring them i guess any "part" of the boat is covered under my policy as long as i have 2 effective means of locking it up and its not left on the street chains are not considered effective locking devices
