  2. I have just got back from New Zealand with 3 work mates, We were rostered off for a couple of weeks ,so we booked some cheap air fares and headed to Auckland, the plan was to chase some big NZ kings. Plus do some sightseeing along the way.The trip started perfectly when we were greeted by the Jim Beam girls at the airport offering samples plus posing for photos. We went to Lake Taupo and Rotorua, did the rapid jet boat rides and to Agro adventures and scarred the crap out of me on some of the crazy things that only kiwis can offer. We had booked a day out fishing in a lovely town of Whitianga 2 hours drive from Auckland. Sadly we could only book 1 day as they were booked out for the next 6 months. We were up very early could not sleep just like kids and Christmas. We meet our guide down at the ramp at 7.00am. Toby would be the best charter skipper I have been out with. We started with catching a tank full of livies then headed out. We were lucky the water was flat and no wind, we headed out to a reef 25 miles off shore. Toby hunted all day working his fish finder telling us how far to drop our baits as we were using multi coloured braid it made the job easy as it changed every 10 metres. From the first drop we found the fish, there were no trophy fish caught but most of them were around the 80cm mark, which is much better than what we catch a home. We ended up with over 20 kings plus just as many gear stealing Barracouta. A great day out good company flat sea (thank god) nobody got sick. We took 1 fish back which made a wonderful dinner. Our second charter we booked was to target Snapper out of Auckland. But the good weather we were having came to an end we could only get out half the distance the skipper wanted to go. We got shelter behind an island and got only a couple of pan size snapper we were getting smashed by the wind and rain so we pulled the pin early and came in. We were travelling into the wind and had the tide against us one hell of a trip back to port. But that’s fishing we had a great 6 days away from work and home lots and lots of laughs to much to drink a great holiday. I would go out with the first charter again and try and book extra days.

  7. Last night i headed to WB with my mate Adam (suffo) who was keen to catch his first Hairtail. His 11 year old son Joel wanted to come and his mum finally gave in and gave him a day pass not happy as it was a school night.(Dont worry we wont be out late) Famous last words.Maybe Adams! On the water at 4.30 at Apple Tree bay ,Quick run around to WB Picked up a public mooring and set up.Just on dark i hooked and landed a good fish then all went quite for the next couple of hours. Then Joel picked up a 55 cm Salmon which was released. You could hear other boats dealing with a couple hairtail cheers and the thud of a club on the head of a hairtail with snapping jaws. Then all 4 of of rod started getting bites and runs but we could not hook them.We were using full pilchards so we changed to only a fillet, when the fish came back we started hooking up at one point we had a triple hook up and landed all of them. The fish were doing laps of the bay as you could hear other boats, then they would appear on the sounder we found all the fish in 3-5 meters of water we were sitting in 18 meters. We ended up with 7 Hairtail longest be 1.45 meters.Off the water at 11.00pm back at Adams at 12.00 Joel in bed 12.15. Very excited young man and plenty to brag about at school today he landed 2 hairtail plus a salmon. Hope to do it again soon. Cheers Stephen (Reggie the Rabbit)

  10. Last night i had the pleasure of spending most of the night with Tide n Knots (Pete)on the harbour.Of late Pete has been on fire with the jewies. He invited me to join him to target Jewies. We traveled to Petes secret spot and set up our rods. Very slow couple of small bites we got a couple of small jewies and a nice size Tailor. Then in the wee hours one of my rods loaded up and on que the old overhead reel i was using failed could not get any pressure on the drag, managed to get line back in we were looking over the side to see what was coming up,then this prehistoric creature from the deep came to the surface.Pete expertly netted the beast then he grabbed it around its neck.I told him not to point that thing at me, check out the dentures. It was knocked on the head it measured 1.62 metres just short of the fish raider record of 1.7 metres.Had a great night we finished with 3 Jewies,1 tailor and a cracker of a hairtail.Bring on the Hairtail social i am now ready.Got to bed at 4.30am I would like to put the Hairtail up for the COTM comp Many thanks again Pete had a great time.

  14. Its has been a while since I droped a line with all the wet weather we have had.Yesterday I got a call from my workmate Adam (fishraider Suffo)Who has been on the sick list and been away from work for the past 7 months. He has just got the all clear from the doctors to our delight and was busting for a days fishing,he said his boat was growing roots and was home to a large family of spiders. So I meet him at his home at 4.30 am and headed to the Hawksbury on the water by 5.45. We caught some livies and started heading towards Juno Point when we saw a flock of bird dive bombing the water.Out went small metal lures and instant double hook up we had Australian Salmon all round the boat on light gear it was great fun, we chased the school for a while then headed to Juno Point. In the next half hour we pulled in 4 nice Flathead. Around lunch time the wind sprung up and we called it a day. We had a great day and Adam was so pleased to be back on the water it was the best kind of therapy for him to return to good health. Cheers Reggie the Rabbit (Stephen) Adams first fish in 7 months

Just got back from a trip on the west coast of the states.Paid a visit to the basspro shop in Vegas all i can say is OMG have never ever seen any thing like it if they dont have it you cant get it and the prices min half the prices in Australia. While we were in San Diego we were walking along the pier looking at the seals, came across a guy fishing next to a sign saying no fishing and catching Mackeral with a float and 2 hook rig. I had to ask if i could have a cast he passed his rod over dropped the bait into the water within seconds the float disapeared up came my prize 2 fish double hookup we were both happy my first fish in the states and my new friend had 2 extra fish in his bucket.Fiona said you could not help your self now you stink of fish anyway had a great trip 18 days driving around drove 1500 miles Cheers Stephen (Reggie the Rabbit)
