  3. My wife Fiona said that she would like to go onto the harbour on Saturday and watch Jessica Watson sail in.I told her that would be great we will go early and do some fishing while waiting.I checked seabreeze and i knew it was going to be bumpy 2.5 metre swell 15 knot wind and a southerly blowing. But she wanted to go fishing how could i knock her back. We did not hit the water untill 7.30early enough for her.We were in a little 4.5 metre boat and it was very choppy. We dropped anchor at Clifton Gardens and waited ,fishing was very slow but we ended up with 4 nice leatherjackets about 35cm each and a nice bream.By the time Jessica sailed in we were being bounced all over the place it was like being in a machining machine on spin cycle so we stayed to the side and watched the fleet go past we were to small to mix with the large boat in the fleet. We were glad we went and watched butt very happy to be off the water at the end of the day.The harbour looked great with boats of all sizes out welcoming Jessica home.

  7. Hit the bay at first light this morning with one of my buddies from work. After scooting across the bay in perfect conditions we headed for the oil tanker mooring at Kurnell.Draged lures half away with no interest at all.We hooked the regular under size reds and then my heavy line darted off. After a short battle and to my total surprise a 36cm Samson fish comes to the surface.I was over the moon never caught one before couple of snaps and back it went.Things were very slow so we moved into the shallow water near Kernell i wanted to show Paul how blades work.We started to drift, my first cast with a Bushie Devil Fish Blade it was in the water about 30 seconds and i was on up came a 50 cm flathead Paul could not belive it 2nd cast a 10 cm red, small but still a fish. Then on the 4th cast a tiny Cuttle fish grabed the blade. It was as big as the lure i lifed it into the boat and it covered us and the rear end of the boat in ink Not happy but live cuttle fish i will get mine back.By this time Paul was talking about getting a light flick rod.We moved across to the oil wharf droped the anchor and sat in the boiling sun and waited,Then my overhead made that sound that all fisherman love i was on and i knew it was a king we netted a small 55 cm kingy my first in this boat. The 3 young guys in the boat next to us could not belive their eyes when i put it back. Then the matter of the cuttle fish that inked us well he was converted into a 47cm flathead had a great day a lot of water between the fish better then being at work.

  22. The wife and i just got back from a couple of days at The Entrance the weather was ok a bit of rain and wind but it did not stop me getting out on the boat.My daughter had just finished her HSC exams so we were going away for a couple of days.both of the girls desided not to come with us they had better things to do. Put the boat in the water started first go but no water flow from the water pump which i check at home before we left. Not a good start found to be a blockage in the hose happy now. I desided that this was going to be a lure only trip NO SMELLY BAIT .I can see the smile on swordys face now!! Any way lots of casting over the next couple of days with plastics. hooked my first flaty on a small gold Squidgy 46 cm long over the moon next cast on again the same size fish. Got one more before going back to the cabin yum fresh flathead fillets. next day almost the same story but first i must thank the guys in the red boat ,not a bite heaps of casts and this boat comes up and drops anchor 5 metres in front of me now this is not a small lake to keep the peace and not make a fuss i moved about 25 metres and the first 2 casts 2 flathead in the boat and i made sure they saw them ended up with 4 that session. Got all the fish on the same lures saddly lost them all to small tailor had a great time and the clean up of the boat was easy with no smelly prawns.
