  1. Yea those lil bait jigs you get from the shops work a real treat. Good to burley up to get a large school to increase changes of them taking it. Most often then not we don't even have to burley they jump on the hook ready to go!
  2. YAY gold coast swell will be coming down by sunday. Hopefully alot of you guys can get out (if weather and swell is same in sydney)
  3. Cousin decided he wanted to come down to Gold Coast, he hasn't fished in 25-30 years so we took him out for a bit of a bash even though the conditions wern't t hat good! Nothing decent is bloody biting this week on the 24's Se goldy, had a few decent fish bust off but the avg sweetlip was around 1kg a few small sharks and a couple of trevally. Nothing much to speak of! Might head out to 36's next weekend and see if i can post some big snapper catches The wind dropped off as we were coming back in Anyone got any comments on t tops? Are they good need 1 and a windscreen! Putting splash material this week on those rails.
  4. The best night light's ive ever used were clip on lights that clip onto the brim of your cap. Led lights x 4 with 4 different settings, massive range and brightness is unbelievable. Wouldn't go past them if i was night fishing. Got ours off ebay.
  5. I'm quite interested in this question sa well. I'm only relatively new to braid as well, spooled reels with 250ms braid And have just been taking off a few metres or so at a time when it becomes rough, or when ever im re-rigging for a new trip. I'm pretty sure the especially with intense casting the braid gets a work out, i'd rather play it safe incase a big fella comes along!
  6. Im looking at getting another "cheap" overhead reel for bottom bashing, live baiting and trolling in the summer months for mackies. At current we have a shimano td-20 (that we've had for over 10 years) still running as good as gold and a few years ago we bought 2 penn 220's we had constant problems with the drag washers and general reel itself stuffing us around. Over the next few weeks i'd like to have a look at buying another overhead reel that could say hold 200+ metres of 40lb + mono. I've considered getting another Shimano td20 or perhaps the Shimano td25(don't know what the difference is) the silstar tf-20 seemed a cheap special, but don't know much about them. I'm pretty impressed with the shimano brand so far, but would you guys suggest any other brands and models for me to have a look at? Budget: $0-$200 preferably. I know i wont get much but i want an entry level one, as i don't fish too far out and don't fish for the bigger species like YFT etc
  7. Unlucky about the fish, but looks like it was a bloody great day out, wish i was able to get out
  8. i've done most of all them except no.9 I saw some guy witha brand new porche 4wd and a new 24ft cat boat gun it out of the water, the straps snapped and the boat hit the ramp half way up it was there for over a day
  9. Kind of know it is just searched cods and this looks like the 1's i've been catching! How good are they for eating? Catch so many of them only brought home my first one today. And wasn't sure where to post this. Thanks!
  10. Ah well lets hope we get a massivly good run of perfect weather for a month or so straight! in the upcoming months Meant to be going out tomorrow or next day as well, but big storm just hit us
  11. Hit the local few spots and lost all our jigs to barracudas biting @ the swivels and through the line. Couldn't get a livie so went out to our spotty mack reef as heard they were on the bite, but got nothing decent and nothing much happening. Mate bought 7inch pearl white jerk shade, and was messing around with it on the 22's and it got nailed... 3/4 of it was bitten off and just the top half of the shade was left with the jighead Tried another spot a bit futher out to sea for the first time and got a few bigger things. Shovel nose shark 80cm+ (are they good to eat?) heard z lemon fish were ok Small goat fish 50cm cod few small squire Decided to head out even futher and got nothing but a few nibbles, encountered another whale and a dolphin! And that was that 4 hrs fishing and 2 keepers, 50cm cod and a just legal snapper. Should of probably gone out to 36's but didn't fill up with enough petrol O well better luck next time
  12. Hmm that would mean the eye would have to be big enough for the wire + other wire. What size hooks do you use? I use 6/0 hooks, and wouldn't mind seeing a rig like you suggested photographed. If it's too much trouble/wasting tackle don't worry. I'll have a crack on saturday at setting one up.
  13. Taking my cousin from New Zealand out fishing. Hope the weather is good for sunday, working saturday.
  14. False advertising i was expecting burning palm trees Nice picture
  15. Well i shopped around in brisbane for an hr or so, so i wouldn't get the main part of peak hour traffic on the way home..... What i usually do is join 2 steel traces to 1 piece of mono(mainline), But gradually they come tangled after a trip or two. I saw stewy's bottom bashing rig and was wondering if i can rig up a main hook and a stinger hook on the one line sort of thing? No idea how to go about doing it, the way i do it is a bit dodgey.
  16. Last test before i start 5 weeks holiday Shame that i'll be working 6 days a week in them, but i can buy more rods and tackle!
  17. sweetage I picked up the bullbar rod holders today. It's actually for a spot @ the back of my boat so i can stack my rods when i don't need them. Perfect size and price for what i needed, instead of blowing 40$ a pop for a chunky thing. Thanks guys
  18. I enjoy them because i have normal tv, and it beats any other crap thats on. Luckily the gold coast is currently developing a new fishing show that incs diving, surfing, boating, filleting your fish etc. That will come out in the year. NOTHING BEATS A FISHING SHOW ABOUT YOUR BACK YARD. I just hope they don't give away too many reef spot details that not many people know
  19. Well when i first joined the sight i was looking @ extending the sides of my boat to prevent splash etc, it's been a while but i finally got around to it and got one of dads welding mates to suggest an alloy welder.... Getting front rails extended by 2.5 metres (approx 8metres of 32mm rails all up) inc stays etc.. Anyway we bought some marine uv plastic sort stuff for the "splash" material.. we bought some brass eyelets and they were seriously crap We want to fold the material over the top of the bar and.... bring it back down under the rail so we can rope it. We are looking at putting 2 eyelets one for each side for the rope to go through... The eyelets we bought from bunnings were crappy cheap brass plated ones and came with awful eyelet plyers.. Is there any other way to join the material to the rails....... ie - stiching, crimping? I have the bottom sorted with an alloy flashing on the bottom with stainless steel washers/screws to go through the side rubber of my gunnel Just couldn't quiet figure out the top part. -------------------------------------------------------------- The thingy mabob Looking for the 4 rod holders that can be bolted onto car bull bars. NOWHERE HAS THEM I CANNOT FIND THEM ARGH have they stopped making them? I don't want to make one up as it will cost more then the pre-fabbed ones... Any idea on where I can get one on the Gold Coast? Thanks Matt. And yes my boat is a major ongoing project to upgrade it and it will probably never be finished but hey i like looking into stuff
  20. Congrats on the nice catch once again Wish i was out there also, but work and uni are keeping me at bay
  21. 91cm x 196cm sheets self adhesive 5mm thick any colour you want in their range $171.00 Youch but it looks good
  22. I just requested a quote, depends if they can be bothered with my order!
  23. With more massive swell inbound and heavy winds, I havn't been out for a decent fishing trip in over a month. Just wondering if I can catch some batch in prep for sea fishing.. Do mullet strips work for bottom bashing? I've tried whiting and didn't get a sniff on it. Sea: Pilchards - whole/cut Squid Yakkas Barracuda Tailor Fillets River: Yabbies Herring Prawns Whitebait/anchovies Would like some insight on some of the baits you guys use, other then lures and sp's.
