  1. This bar looks insane, its only around 4-5ft on a full run out tide I wouldnt go out there unless i had somthing like the first boat, he miss timed it bad and was a lil off speed on the 1 where he almost lost it! Scary shit, almost happened to me a few times out of currumbin This one is even worse, boat stalled and he attempted to turn around during that, stuff that! Enjoy!
  2. Jesus your always buying gear!
  3. bloody hell that looks nice also looks like there could be a few nasties in the water !
  4. I can't remember what the beach is called, but the 1 with the ship wreck + main street of byron, where the caravan park is on the beach. Just infront of the caravan park is a small rocky outcrop, you can't fish from that outcrop towards the lighthouse side. $750 fine copped by the people in the site next to us
  5. Well today we went out of a new bar and tried 5-7 reefs that were given to us by a few mates. We usually head out on the bar's futher south 20kms and know most of the reefs and marks off the back of our hands down there so it's not a problem. Swell was meant to be 1metre but was well over 2 metres as we crossed out the bar so we stuck to the 12/18s/ and 24s. The problem was we had trouble reading our finder on the reefs we have never been 2 before. We arrive @ the gps location and see the breaks, holes and pinnacles in the reef, usually we get the fish"id" popping up everywhere, we had that on the first 2 reefs we got a few snapper and missed a few trag jew. Headed out to 2-3 24 reefs where 20+ boats were on, hit the reef and scouted around for 300 -1km of the reef and could not see a single fish"id", not even signs of massive structure on the bottom. No one seemed to be pulling up fish on the reef so we drove around for a bit and still nothing What should i look for with the finder apart from the fish "id" ?- depth change, temp change? Help is appreciated much.
  6. MM i havn't had beer battered fish since for a long while, i result to crumming and baking them on the barbie
  7. Nice effort Outfisher What poundage line are you using? *I don't fish for large pela's just wanted to know
  8. Glad to see you aren't harassing the carp any more. Well done on your catches, be that small, wasn't much difference up here! a 8cm flatty
  9. Hello Cam, Jew is pretty well informed you on what most of the locals would pass you onto! Great action for a pretty much guanrenteed catch of bream, tailor, whiting, odd flatty, jews and of course sharks. (2 weeks ago a 10ft tiger was hanging around the jetty for a few day) Other then that, the general sand pumping carpark/ park area is a great place to fish off the rocks, or the groyne. Along the groyne and rock walls are premium spots for jewfish (northern part of the south wall) and the odd large mangrove jack if you can get amoungst it. Along the wall the earlier part just where it starts to bend and head back around to wavebreak island is a underwater pipeline, large trevally, gts and silver, congregate here most times and you just have to work the area and you should come up with something. Whiting, tailor also hang around the pipe and nav post. Around the sandbanks of the area is good flatty fishing, with occasional large 80cm+ flatties being pulled out there. Inside the bay where all the boats are moored is alot of weed, you can get a bit of squid in here either with your jig or cast net (lol) and theres all the river species here, flounder etc, but no prominent spot to go so to speak. You can also walk along the mainbeach/surfers beaches for tailor fishing if you want, but i'd recommend the sand pumping jetty a much easier option and you don't have to carry numerous outfits that way. Anyway goodluck! I havn't fished there for a while, but got a few good tailor off the pipeline i was talking about about 2 months ago in heavy current when we couldn't go out to sea. ----- Other then south port spit itself, there is the gold coast highway bridge, jetties and general broadwater which can be fished out of, not too sure where to recommend though landbased. Goodluck edit - just sent you a pm with a 15 page fishing location guide for the goldcoast from seaway to myway (currumbin), it's not up to date, but it's more of a graphical idea of where im talking about the groyne and bay areas all within 5-10mins walking distance. If you need some local reports before you come up, i watch the thur/fri news reports and the friday in depth fishing pullout in the local rag. Matt.
  10. Wow you got a truck load of plastics! And nice size snapper, looks like it could feed the family for a few weeks!
  11. Black magic fluro leader material. Um... You can spool like 4-6 metres of mono ontop of your braid for your leader, and then use your swivel that way, will still have braid sensitivity because braid is running through your guides/rod. Im not too sure how much leader you could effectively have while fishing estuary/rivers, out on the reefs i run a 6 meter mono leader and can still feel every single tingle!
  12. Nice work on your carp catching, DID YOU REMOVE THEM PAST THE FLOOD LINES??! How come you couldn't get out? Hopefully i can get out tomorrow just bought $50 worth of pillies
  13. I am relativly new to braid as well, but when i run that setup bare in mind im bottom bashing, the sinker sinks faster and then the bait/rig will wrap around the braid, nasty bloody knots happen. Switched to mono/bm leaders. No more hassles
  14. Respooled the tld20 with platapus line lo-stretch 15kg mono 500metres went on and it can still handle more. Hopefully the mono can act similar to braid like it states so i can get a better indication of bites and bumps on the 36;s
  15. Well after seeing the state of my oldest rod, I'd like to know how you guys clean your gear! I'll be honest i don't look after them as much as i should, but always give them a big hose down with fresh water, and spray light lubricant oil every nut and bolt the reel owns So what can i do to better maintain my reels? 1. Fresh water to clear the salt water out 2. Lubricate the reel 3. avoid dirty thoughts about number 2 HELP IS Appreciated! Most of my rods are my dads so i got them in the condition they were in, but have been slowly adding new reels to his rods and chucking out his stuffed reels. ------- Albion I have a okuma epix 80 reel and i have it spooled with 250 metres of 20lb mono, but i have trouble every time i put a 6-8 metre 30lb leader on it. The knot breaks/slips out at the join when a 3-5kg fish takes a dive, has happened about 4 times, since then i have been using a short leader with a swivel for bottom bashing, but need to know how to do the knot properly when summer comes around for lure casting! I threaded the braid around the mono leader line starting left to right, did 5 loops and then passed the braid back through the open ended loop at the top and did 5 back down the opposite way to the loop. Is there any other knots that i can try, or a better picture to describe the knot. I think stewy or someone showed me one on my first post but i can't remember how to do it
  16. There she is on the left ready to go and my 14 yr old smaller version of the tld20 Ran out of mono to spool the 25 up with but felt comfortable enough with around 500ish metres on there. Surprisingly it doesn't look as dirty in reel life as that photo I'll make another thread to ask how ppl clean their gear and maintain them.. Thanks for another quick response slinky
  17. Just bought another rod and reel on payday What should i spool the td25 with? Going to use it for trolling and bottom bashing livies, im thinking either 50lb braid or 40lb mono... Still gotta read the manual to see how much line it holds

  19. Nice report and lovely sized whiting. Funny how the pelican gradually turned up after he sensed a fish
  20. Sounds like you had an ok day before work Nice report was a good read. Gl on your next trip
  21. How do you guys store your jigs after a day out? We have a deticated jigging rod, but even that gets stuffed up and caught in carpet etc, we replace the jig every time we go out
  22. How well do these jigging rigs work compared to using soft plastics? Are they limited by depth as well? Sort of like a larger bait jig that you get yakkas on, never seen them used out on the coast here personally? Does anyone use them? (still yet to catch a fishing using soft plastics BUT IVE BEEN CLOSE)
