  9. Just a quick question which has been bugging me for a while, scared to ask and look stupid. When we setup say a large livie floated out the back, should we leave the drag loose while its unattended or do it up to a suitable fighting drag? As we have had a few big hits and the rods get bent back into the water, while they are unattended. Luckily enough i was standing next to the rods the last few times the spotty mackeral hit. Thanks in advance Matt. ps- the storms are leaving so might be able to fish soon
  10. Wow what a boat fisher! I bought some tickets today for the powerball.
  11. Dam I need to get some rod holders 2 they are sitting in the trusses of the garage
  12. OMG it got away, i was reading the story then was gonna go down to the pics to see THE MONSTER. Shame it got away, it's happened too many times to me I want to go fishing now
  13. I paid 160.9 cents 2 days ago at the servo, 3 days later on (today) its down to 149.9? Seriously what the hell.
  14. Just went down to our local tackle shot to give beach fishing a crack b4 the comp. Found out the ol mates have won the comp 3 times in a row Was a bit dishearted how badly we went, if the weather is bad I might give it a miss
  15. Is the lure on a mono leader? Generally with a slug if your retrieving very fast with braid/mono and it breaks the surface it can bounce and hit the mainline/leader and tangle very badly. But i could of misread your post as im only a newbie sorry
  16. Here is a pic of what it looks like today The red line indicates the sandbar running across the whole bar, 0-20cms deep max on dead low tide. Blue line is the directions we take to get out, left 1 if its "big", right 1 if its small And if you look at the groin old passage used to be going around it and running along the beach
  17. I hope the weather holds off! Might scout some gutters/areas as never been down to Cabrita, only to Kingscliff. You privy to the location details yet jew?
  18. I felt like showing you what the my local bar crossing can be like if we get big Lows off the coast! If we can't get out we go surfing instead, needless to say we waited till it dropped to 10ft to surf it Currumbin Creek: you can also find it on coastal watch.com A large sand bank has built up since 2004, we normally go left around the groin, then race along the channel right beside the beach and head out through deep gutters in the offsets. But now we have to go dead straight out, hopefully council will dredge soon! Around 10000 ppl cross the bar every year! A few ppl might comment on how "unsafe" it is, but I've lived on the creek for 21 years and crossed/surfed it so i know it like the back of my hand! ENJOY THE PHOTOS Our resident peacock and lorrikeets
  19. Keep the good reports coming
  20. Congrats on your fish, looks like a nice place to fish
  21. Haha I've given up on charters, after such a bad charter we went out and bought a boat of our own and havn't looked back since! Last charter we booked out the whole boat and they refused to not go out futher then 24 fathoms on a flat day when we wanted 36/50s. Current was fine everything, took us for fools.
  22. I wouldn't have a clue but see the small disc on the bit where it joins the spindle it looks like either an allan key slot or somthing else? No idea
