Topwater Tactics - Frogs vs Cicadas
Lizardboy replied to Aussiefisherman's topic in Freshwater Fishing Reports
Thanks for the report. I have done plenty of bass fishing with cicadas lures, but only just starting to try the frogs. I took a screenshot of the lure in the bass’s mouth, cropped out the fish, and then used photo to search directly in google, the result was HARIMA KO DONGURI MOUSE 45MM, sound right? cheers, Gus -
MAS Trout Stocking Report
Lizardboy replied to R E G I C Y C L E's topic in Fisheries News and Regulations
thanks for keeping us informed, it's a complicated issue, but got me thinking, the lack of disclosure described sounds very frustrating. -
Thanks for the report, kicking goals and some great pics, Oberon Dam is on my hit list for the same reasons! Cheers, Gus

Albert, great report, it seems you have likely caught the cod bug. I'm in the same boat, stuck in Sydney, but would much rather be west of the divide. At least I have salt and freshwater options on my doorstep with Queenscliff lagoon, Manly Dam and the creek in between while I plan my next cod trip!

Enjoyable read, thanks for posting. Cheers, Gus

Great, report Max. Cheers

G’day Neil, I fished Gosling creek reservoir/dam early one morning at Christmas about 5 years ago from my packraft and got a small cod and a redfin or two. From memory there is a small wharf (fishing platform?) around one side. Could be worth a look as well. cheers, Gus

Nice work and good size, sounds like you’ve caught the bass bug! If you haven’t tried it yet, sometimes give long pauses after your cast lands till the rings from the splash dissipate, then a subtle twitch and another long pause. Another good one with cicada lures can be shaking on the spot, I.e. vigorous shaking of the rod tip with semi slack line with the lure hardly moving forward, again with plenty of pauses. cheers, Gus

Grinding experience levels at narrabeen lake
Lizardboy replied to faker's topic in Saltwater Fishing Reports
I had a similar grinding experience a couple of weeks back up the mid to back of the lake trying for flathead. I suspect they have temporarily reduced the flow/closed the lake while they clear the entrance, if I’m right things should improve when they finish, which is due in December. cheers, Gus -
Hi Katoe, thanks, were you in the main basin, we went up the Abercrombie, saw very few carp jumping. Our trip was enjoyable despite us not catching anything. We fished points and bays a few km’s up the Abercrombie Challenge was finding the right spots to fish, we sounded around but never found or saw any great concentration of bait or fish, at least until the last night on our way back we found a bit. We got on the water 4:30pm Friday, just long enough to record a track for next morning. We had a full day fishing Saturday and decided not to go out Sunday morning due to big drive back and early work Monday. The lesson we learned was it’s hard cod fishing in winter because you don’t get a lot of feedback, hits or catching smaller fish to let you know you might be in the right are. We agreed we need at least 3 days fishing next time to make sure we can find fish Good concentrations of bait/fish. Then we just need to get them to bite! Here is a pic from our trip, the only significant cod like fish we sounded.

Thanks Neil, Bessel & Katoe. Katoe, appreciated. Btw did you come across any sign of bait or birdlife? cheers, Gus

Thanks for report Katoe, I will be giving Wyangala a crack this weekend! I have been psyching myself up for 2-3 years for my first winter cod trip, just to deal with the cold! cheers, Gus

Don’t be afraid to try somewhere new
Lizardboy replied to Lizardboy's topic in Freshwater Fishing Reports
Thanks, sorry re-read my post and added “(somewhere else)” to make it clearer. -
I stopped over inland for a couple of nights on the way back from the South Coast with my family and got to explore a couple of spots. I did some recon briefly mid afternoon on the upper Shoalhaven close to where we were staying, looked great but wasn’t convinced it was going to produce as I had tried other sections in the past without any luck. I had a dilemma, do I try the same spot again at prime time early the next morning or drive (somewhere else) an hour each way and therefore have less fishing time. It was the one morning I had to myself without the family, I spent a couple of hours searching online to try and help sway the decision but I found almost nothing, so in the end I just went for it, choosing the drive to explore somewhere new and it turned out to be worthwhile. Cheers, Gus

bass fishing adventure in the local
Lizardboy replied to dirvin21's topic in Freshwater Fishing Reports
Awesome, thanks Dave! -
Nice work James! With a bit of detective work and exploration Fiji has some good but lesser known DIY light tackle fishing options. I have had some fun chasing creeks jacks and been absolutely destroyed in some landlocked ponds! You may inspire me to do a Fiji post from a year or so back. Cheers, Gus

Nice report Katoe, Good results and nice to see responsible harvesting of a modest size fish for a feed! You did better than my first trip to Wyangala. cheers, Gus

Nice one Rick, I was hoping to get there this year but it’s not going to happen!
