  5. @DerekD has been giving his time freely for several years to voluntarily coach fishraider members. His input on most threads and exceptional articles he produces for our Article section has not gone unnoticed. He spends most of his weekends and rostered days off taking members who pm him for some mentoring sessions out to fishing spots. The newbies clearly get expert tuition and even experienced anglers have found some correctional instruction helps. He does not charge any money for his efforts. Some mentees do not even add a report on our site. Derek has been nominated by many of our community for a special badge. The mods and myself have decided that he deserves 2 badges Derek please accept the "Volunteer Fishing Coach" and "Expert Mentor" platinum badge on behalf of us all. I urge anyone who is lucky enough to be taken out fishing by Derek to give him a free lunch at least and produce a report on the session here on fishraider. Congratulations Derek from all of us. mrsswordie

  11. Neil, take a look at health. It is very promising. Clinicians will not be replaced however it is already helping with many areas. We saw how quickly the vaccines were available for covid-19 with the AI ability to scour large amounts of data such as research and genetic information. It is being used in pathology and medical imagining to diagnose fine details in films/results and analyze biopsy slides to ID and classify different tissue types. Admin tasks - we all get sms texts to automate the appointment tasks when we have medical appointments. Check out Genomics - it looks at our genetic makeup to predict risk of patient developing diseases. There is much more @big Neil My daughter is a secondary teacher and I have had a few convos with her regarding what they are encountering in the classroom. The way they are teaching is very different these days. We are still producing many, many gifted adults to lead us into the next age. Fishing reports are not that good....... yet Staying Healthy One of AI's biggest potential benefits is to help people stay healthy so they don't need a doctor, or at least not as often. The use of AI and the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) in consumer health applications is already helping people. Technology applications and apps encourage healthier behaviour in individuals and help with the proactive management of a healthy lifestyle. It puts consumers in control of health and well-being. Additionally, AI increases the ability for healthcare professionals to better understand the day-to-day patterns and needs of the people they care for, and with that understanding they are able to provide better feedback, guidance and support for staying healthy.
  12. It is not a concept it is real and happening, even here on fishraider! We have removed several obvious AI "reports" that were posted here. @Little_Flatty Mike and myself have a chuckle to ourselves about some of the content.

  15. After just ten months, a significant milestone within the Boating Industry Academy has been achieved with 16-year-old Dominic being the first student to be signed-up to a school-based apprenticeship with Watson Marine Engineering. In January 2023, the Australian Industry Trade College (AITC) in partnership with the Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) launched a Boating Industry Academy on the Gold Coast with a consortium of marine employers. The Academy provides an industry-driven program for high school students wishing to pursue a career in the boating and marine industries, whilst completing Senior School. Students spend five weeks a term in school (at the AITC Robina campus) and up to 28 weeks a year at the Coomera Marine Precinct, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. With 23 students currently enrolled and a further intake of approximately 12 starting in February, the Academy is on its way to deliver a pipeline of young people keen to enter the marine workforce. Having joined the Academy when it launched, Dominic is an enthusiastic and dedicated young person with a demonstrated passion for the boating industry. He will now embark on an exciting journey undertaking a school-based apprenticeship, allowing him to gain practical skills and knowledge while completing their high school education. By offering apprenticeships in collaboration with industry leaders like Watsons, the Academy is bridging the gap between education and employment, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the demands of the boating industry. Watsons have a respected and established presence in the boating industry, and their involvement highlights their commitment to fostering the next generation of talent in the field. "We are thrilled to see Dominic signed up as a school-based apprentice in our Boating Industry Academy with Watsons," said Mark Bohan Principal of AITC Gold Coast School. "This is a significant step towards nurturing talent in the boating industry and preparing Dominic for a bright future," Mark added. Kelly Manttan Director of Watson Marine Engineering commented, "We believe in investing in young people and the future of the boating industry, and our partnership with the Australian Industry Trade College is a testament to our commitment. “We are excited to work closely with Dominic and other students to provide them with valuable experience and knowledge in the field," Kelly added. The boating and marine industries offer a range of career pathways, from boat building, cabinet making and upholstery, to welder, composite technician and engineer, and marine mechanic/ technician. The Australian Industry Trade College and the Boating Industry Association Ltd look forward to seeing more aspiring students join the Academy to pursue their passions and build a promising career in the boating industry. BIA CEO Andrew Scott said that nurturing and creating pathways for young people was key for a thriving future in boating. Scott said, “The BIA is committed to fostering workforce development. We collaborate with various stakeholders, to inspire and attract talent to pursue fulfilling careers in the boating sector. A skilled and passionate workforce is the cornerstone of our industry and the Academy at the AITC certainly helps build this future workforce." The Australian Industry Trade College (AITC) is known for its commitment to preparing students for successful careers in a variety of industries, and the Boating Industry Academy is one of the latest additions to its portfolio of educational offerings. For more information about the Australian Industry Trade College and its programs, please visit deliberatelydifferent.com.au. For more information on BIA visit bia.org.au. About the Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) The Boating Industry Association (BIA) is the peak marine industry body in Australia, representing the interests of the sector, businesses and the wider community of boating enthusiasts. BIA is an advocate for boaters and supports the safe and responsible enjoyment of recreational boating as a positive and rewarding lifestyle for Australians. A not-for-profit organisation, BIA aims to promote participation in recreational boating, strengthen government advocacy and support for members and expand the opportunities for professional growth and career pathways in the marine industry.
  16. This would be good for a raiders social? Make sure you have the DECKEE APP on your smartphone
  17. 📅 We're now bringing the best local marine events and boat shows to the community in the free DECKEE app, to help boaters stay informed about whats happening on and around their waterways. For example, this weekend the annual Let's Fish Lake Mac competition is going down in Lake Macquarie, and we've activated an exclusive event hub where you can find out where to fish, where local boating facilities are, a full visitors guide to the region and much more. DECKEE Event Hubs can cater for local fishing competitions, sailing regattas, major industry boat shows and everything in between! Get in touch: deckee.com/contact-us

  20. An interesting question. I only started 20 years ago when I was introduced to all the intricacies. What I thought was a boring "put a prawn on a hook and wait" situation was wrong. I also found it was a boys domain. I posted a pic of my nice bass in another older now defunct forum and no-one commented. Swordie and I came across fishraider and eventually we commenced moderating and the rest is history. My observations over the 20 years are that fishermen/women stick with capturing one type of fish or choose beach, offshore or rock. This is dependent on ability to drive, tow and own a boat. Lots of young teens who joined fishraider eventually went to uni or started work, got married and had children. Fishing took a back seat but many return years later to fishraider when they regain some time to fish or decide to teach the kids to enjoy fishing as well. @Little_Flatty will elaborate here. A boat is a very expensive item that is needed for offshore and most waterway use. Some people do not have an opportunity to ever own one. Some buy one when retired! You also need somewhere to store a boat. It really depends on your situation as to what sort of fishing you do. We held many socials over the years. I remember one professional raider who owned a magnificent boat. He posted regularly on here catching kingies in every report. I asked him to a social where the catch would be flathead etc. He replied "no, I only know how to catch kingies". There are also only people who go offshore and catch marlin etc. We are very lucky to have anglers on here that can catch anything. Swordfisherman can catch fish in any environment - just point him to the water and he will be able to work out the method, bait, lure blah blah. We have fished in many places overseas on holidays. I took him to Thailand on his first trip overseas in 2006 and we did not take any fishing gear, It was a 5 star resort and we had breakfast each morning over a massive lake. Swordie saw fish jumping and he managed to source a cork with line and a hook from a shop in a market. He caught a huge fish and gave it to staff. A few days later he saw a guy fishing off the rocks around the lake. He turned out to be from Sydney and he lent Swordie his gear for a quick fish. He ended up catching a Milkfish and it sits in our records here. Once you are bitten by the fishing bug you will always take any opprtunity to go fishing. Fishing is also a very good thing to do for physical and mental health. We have many raiders who do not post much but love to read the reports and chats even when they are unwell and can't fish themselves.
