  1. my boat is only small 4.5m and i have a garmin 420s in it

    works great

i understand what breamhntr is talkin about with the dual screen

in a perfect world i too would have a separate sounder and gps but sadly im not made of money

the 420s is a great little unit it does every thing i need it to

and when you add the g2 bluecharts maps its a very handy tool

i got mine for under $500 shipped

    great little unit

  2. yep thats what ive done

the bilge clips into the blue thing via 2 clips on the side

so the blue thing remains bolted to the water scoop and the bilge is removable

its not going to go any where but if your worried that the bilge might fall off just get some cable ties and tie it down

  3. sounds like u have the same as mine

i had to drill the 3 holes in the little blue cap

2 for bolts to connect it to the water scoop

then i had to drill the big hole in the center for the water to shoot up into the bilge pump

heres a photo of mine on the boat

  4. cheers for the advice Hodgey

i damaged my little bream outfit on my holiday last week so i was in the process of getting a new setup

just bought the SP721L 7'2” 2-5kg and matched it up with a Shimano Symetre 2500FJ

cant wait to test her out

  5. the bimini on my boat is in need of repair

im tossing up between getting it repaired or getting it replaced

if i was to get it replaced i would love it to have more height and some side coverage

does any one no any places in sydney/nsw that repairs/makes biminis at a good price

and any idea on price would be of great help

heres a pic of my boat

  6. i have the garmin 420s with the g2 maps and its great

the world map that comes with them is useless but with the g2 vison card its great

great sounder not sure what the diffrence between the 520 and the 420 is but i have no problems with mine

    very happy with it

  7. here is some pics of my setup

sorry for the bad photos i shot them as i was running out the door

when the tank is full it doesnt move a inch from the back seat

i put the drainage pipes where they are as i didnt want the water level to be too high as the bait could easily jump out

  8. Gday chocofallon

i use a home brew fermenter as my live tank and it works GREAT

i have a metal water scoop that has a mount for my rule 360 bilge pump

so when im drving around i dont need to have the bilge pump on the presssure from driving around is enough to fill my live tank

the bilge for the tank is run off switches so i have total control of when its on and when its off

i have the hose running from the pickup scoop up the side of my boat which then connects to a valve

coz if i have the bilge pump off and im not moving the water will drain back out the bilge so a valve is needed to stop this

at the top of the fermenter i have 2 drainage pipes that drain out the back of my boat

this works great the water level NEVER goes above the drains regardless how fast u drive

but dont use less then 2 drainage pipes otherwise you will start to get over flows

a 500 gal pump is way too much for a tank of this size a 360 will be perfect

another great feature of using a fermenter is that most of them come with clear lids so you can keep the lid on and still see how many baits u got left

i bought every thing new for my tank and i think it worked out costing me around $90-100

livies love it they will swim around in there all day long

prob a good idea to buy a little bait net as it can be funny to watch some one try to catch them with there hands

its espically hard in a tank with no corners there slippery little things

when i get home ill post some pics of my tank

  9. got the urge to go for a fish so me and my bro packed up the boat and headed off to fish the tide change last night

water was dead calm looked like it was going to be a nice night on the water

armed with some prawns and squid we headed off to our little spot

i quickly rig up and drop a line then start to do some repairs on the boat when the bell on my rod starts ringing

i quicky pick up my rod and wind in this little port jackson shark

after a few poor photos hes returned to the drink

first fish caught in less then 2min so we think we are set for a productive night

sadly it was far from it

for the rest of the night we did not get 1 single bite

after a few hrs or so we relocated for nothing again

i guess the fish are just off the bite at the moment due to the amount of crap in the water from all this rain

so we decided to pack it in and head home empty handed

was still nice to be out on the water

  10. me and a couple of mates are heading up the coast for a week in the first half of july for a week of relaxation

ive done some reading and found out that smiths lake isnt too good for fishing

alot of small bream and flattys

we are staying at sandbar park which is on Cellito Beach

is there any good fishing in the local area

is it worth taking my boat if so how are the boat ramps

any advice on fishing this area would be great

    thanks in advance

  11. sounders are awesome tools when used correctly

i want to open up a thread dedicated to sounders and there readings

that way ppl can take photos of there sounder readings and explain whats going on the screen so ppl who dont understand sounders can get a better idea of whats going on

what ya reckon good idea or not ??

what section would one put a thread like that ??

  12. Small ocean indeed. I was the man, who wasn't catching fish, (in the quintrex) beside the man who caught the kingies who was beside you.

Good chatting to you Kingy Kid. See you round soon.

    Cheers

where u the guy fishing with the little kid

or where u the guy in the little inflatable

good to see some raiders on the pittwater

now can some one fill me in on where is a good spot to locate some garfish

i normally use yakkas from that spot but dont seem to have much luck with them

hopefully see u guys out on the water again soon

chances r ill be out there some stage this weekend

    :1fishing1:

  13. haha small ocean

damm if i knew it was you i would of tried to get some garfish off you

wouldn't you no it the one time we go there without a tank full of livies the kingys are on the chew

where did you catch the garfish any way

and nice work again on that king damm solid fish would love to see the photos u took of it

  14. you dont have to mess with the datum

there isnt even a option for it

this app will work with the original iphone without the gps

but since it doesnt have GPS it will be relying on triangulation from cell towers to pinpoint your location

and this isnt very accurate it will be out a good couple hundred meters possibly even more when your out on the water

its a great app and for its current price its great

sadly its going into retirement on my phone as ive just bought a garmin 420s plotter/fish finder for my boat

but will still come into good use when out fishing with other mates

  15. went for a fish on saturday to our little secret pittwater spot

within a couple of min i hooked onto some thing massive

after a 10min fight the fish was lost :(

was a late start for us so we didnt bother getting livies so we stuck to using fresh squid as bait

one of my mates using my little 2kg setup gets hit by some thing

after a light fight he pulls in his first jewie i forget what size it was but after a couple of snaps it went back into the water to fight another day

we also managed to pull in a few massive leatherjackets around the 50cm mark

another mate landed a little port jackson shark

there where some guys in a boat close to us using live garfish as bait and manged to land 2 nice size kingys

one was a solid keeper at 80cm the 2nd was a rat

was a good afternoon out cant wait for the weekend to get out there again

  16. After a few trips outside the heads relying on my iphone to guide me to some secret gps markings I decided I wanted to get a plotter for my boat

I didn’t want to spend a whole heap of money so I look around and I found the Eagle Cuda 350i

Was only $400 shipped and seems to have all the bells and whistles as the more expensive combos but over half the price

Sure its black n white and it comes with preloaded maps that cant be upgraded but I only wanted a cheap system that can store my gps markings and create new markings

Just wondering if any one has had a play with one and what do they think of them

    cheers
