  1. I have a broken tip on a 5 -8 kilo Shakespeare Tripple Wrap President rod and can't do anything with it...It was made in 1979 to take some of the market back from their own Ugly Stik division...... Any idea of the next size up in the Pflueger Supreme Ray.... have a lighter 5 kilo PFlueger already, what would the Supreme model in say an 8kilo model be worth Ray ?

    Cheers

  2. a few weeks back after a few too many beers me and a few mates went for a flick off the bridge at 3am

  3. "Gathering bait

it is a cheap way of fishing when the bait you use is freely available along most rock platforms and ocean rock pools. It is also found in estuary systems and rivers but harder to find. There are 2 main types of weed, string/ribbon type and cabbage.string weed is most common in the river estuary systems but some ocean rock pools also have it. Cabbage type is easier to come by and is everywhere along the coastal rocks and beach headlands. When you harvest your weed be responsible and take only whats needed and if there is enough get some for burly..the weed generally dies off a lot through the colder winter months. It is best not to squeeze the water out but let excess water drain but if in a hurry a gentle squeeze is ok.lay weed in newspaperor hessian bag and fold / roll up and put in bag.you can keep it in bottom of the fridge for up to a week but fresh is always best."

  4. I was going to go fishing around the flint and steel west head areas, but the rappup of what you guys told me is not the best.

Is there any spots around at the moment that are producing fish? I am looking for either land based or spots not to far from a boat ramp( the 5 horse does go very far in a hurry!) any help is greatly appreciated.

    give Cowan creek a try

im going to go chase some snapper, flattys and jews on the vibes and SP's this weekend

  6. I've heard you don't jig them but just let them sit about a metre off the bottom. Is that how you work them?

    depends how lazy u r

the ideal way to use them is to drop them to the bottom let them rest for a few seconds then slowly wind it up about 10m off the bottom if you get no hits drop it back down and repeat

if you get bites dont strike just keep slowly winding it in the fish will hook itself

but if your lazy or you have a few rods out just drop the jig down but it about 2-3 meters off the bottom and stick it in your rod holder and just wait for your rod to buckle :)

or just check your sounder and drop the jigg into the strike zone and leave it there

these jiggs are great only problem is that the skirts are easily damaged and jackets love them

they are replaceable at about $4 a set it can get pretty pricey pretty quickly

i only use them now when im 99.9% certain there are not jackets around

so yeh i havnt used them since i got these last kings

    bring on summmer

  7. i think i speak for all fisherman who fish then pittwater when i say thanks for taking some of the jackets

your welcome back any time and next time bring some more mates with you so you can take even more of the jackets

nice photos too the water looks perfect

  8. Santa just dropped me off some early Christmas presents

rod is the SP721L 7'2” 2-5kg and the reel is a Shimano Symetre 2500FJ spooled with 10lb suffix braid

with a couple of viking cranks that Hodge suggested

the rod feels great in the hand and is really light cant wait to test her out tonight

and no i don't plan on using the squid jig with this reel thats for my big king rod

thanks again Hodgey for the advice

  9. little late with the post

picked up some lucanus jigs last week and give them a test on sunday

we hit spot xon the pittwater put some burley down

within about 15min of jigging with a white lucanus this little guy fell victim

gave a few good runs b4 being landed

after a few snaps he was thrown back

i was happy first king on a lucanus

we caught a few more around this size b4 the jackets came in

jackets just love the skirts on these jigs and b4 u no it there gone

and at $3-4 a replacement u dont want to be loosing too many

so at first sign of the jackets we called it a day for the lucanus

these jigs are supposed to be used in deep water and are ideal for winter

we where fishing in only about 20-25 mtrs of water and they where working well

there supposed to be just as good on snapper have yet to catch one tho

  10. hi frame if you have some done wiring hopefully you have a multimeter if not there bout 20bucks at boating stores.set it to volts then with engine off check the battery voltage should be 11 to 12 volts.then start engine and do same test and if alternator (stator) is working and connected right it now should read between 13v to 14.6 volts if so charging working.if not you have problem ie:short somewhere or stator not working or blown fuse,or faulty rectifyer, good luck

    thanks for the advice

also got some great help from Craig at Huett Marine

    thanks again

  11. well i have been having some battery issues and im not certain if the problem is with the battery

or a problem with the Alternator

now i have been doing some rewiring in the past and im not sure if that has some thing to do with it

so how do i check to make sure the battery is connected to the Alternator

    its a 2002 75 merc

    cheers in advance

  12. heres a shot of the fish finder on the spot we where fishing on

the bait balls were yakkas with a avg size of around 25cm

we did a few drifts over the spot but could only bring up sharks no other fish around

atleast we got a good new bait spot

    captureyzz.jpg

  13. tried some new marks outside the heads around east reef

found some awsome bait grounds pulling in yakkas around 30cm every bait we throw out

caught heaps of sharks biggest one being around 1mtr

didnt land any table fish just lots of reef fish

mate thought it was a good idea to have a flick using his light sp rod few min later hes onto a shark

and he snaps his rod in 2

funny to watch mate wasnt too happy

all n all good day on the water

  14. just a heads up lads i started with this setup and a fellow raider told me to cut off the elbow just above the bottom off the hull and put a peace off air line with a 45 degree cut off at the bottom this will stop you ripping the pump off the mount if you hit any debree wilst underway

the air hose just bends and you wont damage your hull

    cherrs gary

    ahhh very good idea

i always worry when i pull the boat up on shore that its gonna rip off

    cheers
