  3. See the Pew Charitable Trusts (US mob) gets a big mention in the acknowledgements, sure it was them not long ago trying to force a lock out of aussie fishos from our Coral sea fishing grounds. Would take this report with a large grain of salt
  4. There was 2 last time I was there.

  7. Perhaps Bill was trying to cross off stuff on his bucket list
  8. Hi nwatson Nice whiting there mate and welcome to Fishraider - just as an aside my wife has been troubled by inexplicable hand towel disappearances over the years too. I blame the wind and a poor clothes pegging technique but she's seems to think there are other forces at play. Cheers Blood Knot
  9. If you are using a spinning reel then tie the flourocarbon leader (say 2 meters) direct to the braid &dispense with all the swivels. Cheers Blood Knot

    Winch Issue

Craig as soon as I saw the pic you posted ( I have the same winch ) I thought your next problem will be loosing the stupid non attached winch handle. I ended up drilling and tapping the end of the winch shaft, loctited a 6mm stainless stud in the end of the spindle drilled out the end of handle 6.5 m, and the secured the handle to the spindle with a flat stainless washer and 6mm nylock nut. I filled the square drive end up with grease before fitting the handle to prevent the onset of corrosion that begins as soon as your expose / create any non galvanised metal ( ie: by drilling holes in your winch parts). I found the direct drive shaft useless (or more correctly never used) so was happy to fasten on the low geared one Cheers Blood Knot

    Winch Issue

Hiya Craig Does your winch have a bit of a cover on one side of the winch drum ? As I am thinking you may have bought a brake winch (has a brake so as the load is released progressively/steadily) if this is the case you may be able to "back off" the braking force so you get something approaching free spool. Put up a pic of the winch so we can see what you are dealing with mate Cheers Blood Knot
  13. Consider taking up soft plastic fishing - and start accessing the flats and foreshores of the rivers you intend to fish instead of the wharves. There is endless miles of accessible fish holding water beyond what you can access from wharves. Cheers Blood Knot
  14. Fab - Great post mate & spot on as steering cable seizures in the tilt tube area are a real pain. Thanks for taking the time to put the post up. I am sure it will help lots of raiders deal with this very common issue. Cheers Blood Knot
  15. What a cracka report - Well done on your first Bass mate Cheers Blood Knot
  16. Nice report mate - Good to see they are firing up on the surface lures at IC -I have a similarly colored rover (clear with some red at the gills) which is dynamite on whiting. Cheers Blood Knot
  17. I suspect they are the same people who pull into a McDonalds car parking spot, eat their meal in their car and then open the door and drop their rubbish on the ground for some poor bugger to step in. Usually the bin is only meters away - defies comprehension.
  18. As Scatchie says the flatties are on he chew - I was up at Nelsons last weekend and had a real quick session (1 hour between 7-00 and 8-00am) landbased early on Sat morning - happy to report 2 good flatties (50cm and 75cm ) caught off the beach very close to the marina - just using one of the new eco gear bream vibes cast out between the weed patches - also scored a just legal whiting. Cheers Blood Knot

  20. Plus one for Twinfisher - if you ever have engine issues, dragging anchor can be hazardous enough, but pulling the bollard out of the deck and free floating could be even worse. Get a repair done that you can have faith in. Cheers
  21. Congrats on the new tackle, its a great feeling taking a new bit of kit out for the first time. You sure that weapon is 7.6 meters long (24 feet), would be a bit of a handful at that length. Cheers Blood Knot
  22. Jeff - Hope you had a great day mate. Cheers Blood Knot
  23. Im a bit with Roylo on this, if the cup (the internally tapered ring) which is the outer running surface of the bearing has been correctly seated in its housing and the cone (the inner tapered ring complete with rollers and cage) has been pulled up square on the stub axle and the castleated nut adjusted correctly (plus grease packed as described) then you may have something rubbing, hard to blame tyre probs if the wheel was making a noise when you spun it whilst it was jacked up off the ground. When you say the stub axle was"fine" was there no damage to it (bent etc). Cheers Blood Knot

Kookaburra's are part of the Kingfisher family so I suppose they could contribute something
  25. I used to strip the rubber insulation of electrical cable when I was a kid and use that. Unfortunately not much of that sort of cable around these days
