latindog Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I came across some Japanese reels and got confused with their line sizes capabilities call PE, I made a good search and was hard to get a good understanding of their breaking point but I found this little chart that I thought it will be handy for someone else having the same problem
boattart Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 My understanding but feel free to correct me is PE refers to the line diameter and therefore a more accurate estimate of the amount of line you will fit on the reel however like mono the breaking strain will vary from brand to brand depending on quality. I know there are people here with a better understanding so looking forward to more detail.
night_rider Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I thought PE stood for Poly-Ethylene, being the material the braid was made of?

Correct the Japanese use the line diameter as a reference instead, I guess it depends of the braid quality the strength will change as well, I found this great page that explains a bit more and gives a better understanding (Click Here for the page)
