Burtos fishing Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) Hi i was wondering can you catch blue swimmer crabs, yakkas, jewfish, flathead, bream and squid in winter regards burtos fishing Edited May 5, 2020 by Burtos fishing
noelm Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Some of those species are better in winter, some slow down a bit, but they don't just "go away" you just have to work harder to get a few.
Belligero Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Jewies are definitely around in winter, Bream and flatties are about but harder to snag. I'd say their metabolism slows down when the water temp goes down.
PaddyT Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Crabs-a lot less than summer, Yakkas-harder to find, jewies-in different places to summer but yep, flatties May and June can be a bit tricky but towards spring dusky fishing is excellent, squid -awesome time of year for the big southern cals
BabyShark Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 (edited) Hi! We're still pulling up plenty of blue swimmers in Port Stephens. Caught one of the biggest ones I've seen this week, along with 4 other decent crabs in one crab pot... could barely fit in the cooking pot! Good luck 😊 Edited May 9, 2020 by BabySharkDooDoo 2

BabyShark Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 @kingie chaser he likes crab, especially when you can make a claw talk when you pull the tendon!
