  1. I use Pillies off the beach with a twist, The pilly often becomes burley for Bream. So I tie a single hook to the eye of the top gang hook, and bait it with Beachworm. Magic !!!!
  2. HWS for a horizontal slow sink with critter SP,s around pontoons, pylons and oyster racks. Get them appendages wobbling. I pull a lot of flathead out of Mangroves and across rock bars. Weedless has been working well for me !! Howard.
  3. With this rain ths entrance rock walls are best , run in tide as water clears. Rivers were recovering well until the last 2 weeks of rain. Gogleys Lagoon is worth a look, Very shallow. Lake Cathie is good, Lake is open, so between the entrance and bridge for whiting ! Night fishing can be better, Beach should be good too. I haven't fished for a couple of weeks, Wind and rain. Before that atomic 38 deep cranks Bluegill and Muddy prawn were working on the flats on Flathead for me. The prawns are running in Cathie, so Prawn Imitations will work well. Surface the MMD splash prawn has been working, Regards Howard.
  4. I can remember coming in to port stephens in a big cat, ANSA comp, Nasty swell and wind. At one stage the cat seemed Vertical as I looked DOWN to the back . Now that was " interesting" !! Anyone Remember Peter Brocks Cat ? Interesting Colours !
  5. My Photo is a 23.5 kg Jew taken off Umina beach in front if the caravan park on a bloodworm from the local tackle shop. 7' rod 4 kg line. I went down for a Bream for Breakfast !! Howard. If you dig in the wet sand there used to be a white worm about 3'' long that was excellent for bait !!
  6. We get small gt and big eye in the hastings, up to 50 c/m. There about now, Not easy to catch but. Not schooling and moving around fast chasing prawns. Howard.
  7. I want to know more about the sounder. have a mate with one and he Loves it. The mapping function interests me! Great Report !!
  8. Not sure he is still operating. You hire the boat and trailer . Take it to where you like. Brilliant Idea !!
  9. I wonder If the Jackets got the Tail ?????
  10. We have a plague of jackets up here at the moment. A gulp a cast. I changed to zman with sax scent! no damage !! I do like ecogear ZX blades !!!!!!

    I got bored

Whats wrong with a pencil and 2 big toes. Has worked for years.
  12. Calm conditions make it harder. I have been out a few times lately, not even a follow. Watch some Youtube Videos on how to work them !!
  13. Not Quite the same, My son gave me his rod to take a bream off on the beach. I gave him my rod to keep fishing. When he came back, There was a Whiting on his rod !!
  14. 8 Carrier breaks a lot closer to the stated breaking strain. It is rounder, smoother and woven tighter to keep water out, so it casts further! And Tangles less. I remember when braid broke 5 times higher than stated! Fins 40g stated that its 5 lb broke at 15 lb !! I run a fluro leader so have never had a problem with Braid Abrasion wise. Snags and Oysters get to the Fluro first !! To be honest I have a combination of both 4 and 8 carrier, 4 mainly in 4 lb. Both work fine. Don't overthink your fishing !! Enjoy It !! Howard.
  15. I have rods and reels going back 50 or more years. Mitchell reels would be my oldest. I used as a boy. A couple of hand reels I used as a kid, Alvey and seascape reels and rods from my late teens. Butterworth Alvey 7144 and spin 8144. Shimano Bantam 100 ? and an ugly stick baitcaster. I get them out for a bit of fun now and then. The 8144 is so heavy. But at 20 Years old and nothing better around, It was perfect !! The Bantam I used on a newer rod last week ! 4lb Braid now instead of mono !!
  16. What I do !! Cast with the wind, long soft rod as far as possible. Work the edges in a few inches of water out to a meter. A chop on the water is good ! Steady retrieve no pausing, pausing is for Bream. Vibrate the rod a bit from side to side, A nice rhythm with your retrieve. Vary your speed. Speed Kills. They love it in choppy water. Big Lures . 70 to 100 M/M . Clear colours, They are chasing Prawns. Or May be a Yabby ?( Pink Nipper From my childhood !! ) Most of my big Whiting attack the middle of the prawn imitation. They dont nip the tail !!! They want to eat it, not get spiked by either end !! Leave the middle treble on. I tried an MMD Splash Prawn a few days ago. River up here is pure mud. Straight retrieve, looks very good, Moves a lot of water ! Alas only a few Flathead around in deep water . Howard. PS and of course I love my Sax Scent Prawn .
  17. I tag and test at an Opp Shop, we sometimes get 12v fridge / food warmers in. Seem to work well. Engle and Waco !!
  18. Have a look off the end of Green Point.
  19. The Wilson Live fibre rods are in a league of their own. You cant compare them to the older style MT7144. I have had 7 and 8 - 144 and I now have 4 medium mount live fibres. 2x 10'6" and 2 13'6" Even though they advertise 13' they are marked 13'6" !! I cringed at the thought of cutting one down !!!!!! They are so light in weight !!! Perfect rods !!!!!! Howard.

Have a Happy and Blessed Christmas my friends .. Howard.
  21. Nice to hear from you again .
  22. JonD, Copy Cat😛 I have the same but I use it on Jew in the river up here in Port Macquarie. 10 lb braid 12 lb leader. Samaki vibes 10 and 14 gram with Sax scent Crab. Slack water around the Denis bridge is my favourite spot.
  23. I have 2 Jew outfits. No 1 Daiwa Wild Weasel 2 to 6 kg up to 14 grams. 2 nd Veritas 7" 4 to 8 kg 10 to 48 gram. This is a new addition, and now has a permanent place in my Armory. Very nice to fish with !!! Great for deep water winter fishing up here in the Hastings !!!!!! Howard.
  24. Wow look at how far this has gone. The first time I ever went out with Barbara was fishing in a small boat at Crosslands. She outfished me and was hooked. We have been married for 46 years and still fish together, Beach and small boat. I used to buy 2 of everything and that was good. But now we have 2 of everything.( Fishing Wise ) Barbara doesn't need Makeup !!! The largest part of my purchase was a replacement rod tip, top of 2 part rod . I broke it ! Plus live beach worms which I traded for 3 Whiting and A bream all around 30C/m for dinner tonight. A samaki Regit in white bait which caught 2 tailor ( under size) And 2 sax scent 1 crab 1 bloodworm. Oh and some 12 lb fluro leader. And a bait bucket for my grand son . and some sunnies for him. I think that was all .😎 Howard.
  25. I was telling Jason in the tackle shop I would be in trouble for spending so much. He gave me an interesting perspective. If I ash My wife if I can spend $200 on fishing gear. Il get into trouble.! If I buy $200 in fishing gear and then tell her Ill get into trouble, But Ill have $200 in fishing gear !!!!!!
