  4. To answer you all... YES- I eat fish from Parramatta River and also from Lane Cove River on a semi-regular basis and have done so for quite a few years. I love eating fresh fish esp Bream and Jew they are my 2 favourites, I dont fish anywhere near Ermington I only eat fish that are caught east of Gladesville and around thr mouth of the Parra/Lane Cove Rivers...
  5. Went to Parra River for a high tide run last night with one of my good friends We walked away with 1 Jew, 1 Taylor and 2 keeper bream... all others were released for another day, we both lost a Jew each and I lost a good fish to the pylons around one of the nearby wharves- not sure of species but it dusted me very quickly (suspect big Bream or Flattie) Jew went 60-65cm, Bream went 32 and 36cm and Taylor around 40-45cm- Jew and Taylor taken on squid and Bream all taken on Mullet strips, other fish returned to water taken on pillies and yakka strips here's a few piccies.
  6. Avoca has a reputation for being one of Australias most dangerous platforms and Im not surprized by another bunch of lads being washed in coz they dont know their limits nor the platform itself. I surfed Avoca for many, many years as a youngster and I know how dangerous it can get, Ive seen people washed in and people drown first hand and its not pretty- I reckon some of the fisherman who think they "it will never happen to me" need to see and experience it first hand or cop a washin themselves before they realize how dangerous rock fishing really is... Im sure locals like RayR and Mercer007 wouldnt have contemplated even stepping onto the rocks on that day and they are locals who know the area like the back of their own hands- I hope the people who suffered were not FR members as I would expect with the amount of threads and videos about safety on the rocks they should have know better. Any fish isnt worth anyones life- I just dont understand why anyone would be crazy eneough to even attempt to fish there- I was out @ Broken Bay on the weekend on the beaches and the swell was 2m+ on a bech that Ive NEVER seen surf over 2 foot in 10 years- the swell was 3-04m off the point and the local surfers would even go out, thats how hectic it was on the day- all fisherman were on the sand and we were having troubles staying where we were current was raging with a strong undertow and rips everywhere along the beaches. Not only does on jeopardize their own life, but the lives of the local surf rescuers have to risk their own lives to save YOU, and also costs $$$ to the local economy- its EXTREMELY selfish and dangerous and heartbreaking for family/friends/colleagues- so think twice before you step onto ANY platform... Read the surf for between 30minutes to 1 hour (from somewhere safe)... NEVER fish alone... ALWAYS have an ecape route planned in case something happens... and use a PFD and make sure you wear cleats and can swim- if you dont adhere to these basic you shouldnt even be thinkin about fishing or going anywhere near a rock platform. Sadly Rock fishing is Australias most dangerous sport- there are less shark attack victims than there are drownings from rock fishing- if you have any doubts then stay away from the rocks, you will thank your lucky stars that you did. 7. Welcome, you have some pretty good fishing right @ your doorstep on the hawkesbury. If you want to get out of the city completely then head up to the Nthn Beaches or up to the Central Coast... There are plenty of places you can go up that way and its promising to be great beach weather- kids and play in the sand while Dad soaks a bait... Perfect solution... Good luck! Tight lines Anthony
  8. Beach fishing is very relaxing... but can be pure chaos when the fish are ON. Like everyone else has said choose your tackle wiseley- I use Baitrunner 6500 loaded with 50lb braid for most beach fishing and then just add a 30lb leader, but Im going to downgrade the line class to 30 or even to 20 in the next week or so my other outfits are Alvey 650C5 and 651C5 Lever Drag running 20lb mono and 30lb mono respectively... and I have a few good casting overheads that get a workout occasionally. Your gear doesnt need to cost a fortune and I reckon anyone starting out should get a cheapie as lets face it the rod and reel will most likely get dropped in the sand and scratched no matter how much one tried to take great care of their gear beach fishing is tough on your gear and tough physically as you are often lugging large amounts of bait/lures and all your gear, + torches (if you fish nights) + buckets and the like. An extra set of hands is always helpful when beach fishing. Ive been beach fishing for over 25 years in total and I more often then not go solo to very remote beaches, its really hard work I have to say... but I wouldnt have it any other way I love fishing beaches and just watching the stars with a 6 pack and some munchies- an iPod helps to pass the time when its quiet, but when its firing you wont have time to do things you normally would like eat, drink and listen to music, as you will be flat out reeling in huge Sambo's, taylor, jew, Flatties and Trevally... and then you have the toothy Noah brigade to contend with. Wishing you the very best of luck, Im sure you'll love beach fishing as much as I do and hope to hear some cracking reports of your adventures in the coming weeks or months. if you want specific details on tackle or anything related to beach fishing feel free to shoot me a PM I'll try and answer as best I can- I dont know everything about beach fishing but I have done it for a long time and I was a surfer for many years so I think Im pretty well conversed on locations, tides, wave direction and locating gutters and tackle. A really good site is www.coastalwatch.com for live cams on some beaches in NSW, they will give you up to date hourly updates on swell conditions and wave direction aswell as wind and weather. 9. ... Personally I wouldnt eat one... Ive never tried PJ... the best tasting sharks are Gummy's, Schoolies and Whalers IMO Ive caught and cooked up a few and they taste awesome!
  10. Sambos + silly string = FUN FUN FUN! Well done on ya PB, how much fun are they when they're on the boil Great report and fantastic piccies- love the shot of the whale... I had one 3 weeks ago burst up around 10m from the 20 foot boat I was on and I nearly fell overboard, lol- I was fumbling around my pockets for my camera to try and get a piccie... she swam under the boat and disappeared. Top stuff mate... Tight lines Anthony

  12. Hey scaffdog- have you checked the link on Jewfish tips? here it is just in case you missed it: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=36153 Sadly Im in a similar boat as you, its been 4 long years since I nailed my last- but Ive hooked and been pinged loads of times since then (maybe close to 50 hookups with NONE landed)... Jewie fishing is the only form I constantly lose sleep over... It really torments me when my mates can go and slam 10-15kg models regularly from spots I fish regularly- I have to be doing something so tragically wrong- but also something right to hook em to start with- I just have "issues" with landing them, lol Wish you the very best of luck chasing the smelly-slab. Tight lines Anthony

  15. 3... 2... 1... 3 cups corn meal 2 cups plain flour 1 cup water Mix well together, place in a sealed plastic bag... then add to a boiling pot of water for 30minutes it should form a nice pliable dough and you can store it in the fridge for up to a week afterwards I got the recipe from a south african pro carp angler who does competitions, he reckon its the GUN mix for carp, berley with corn kernels and stale bread. Good luck Anthony

  24. They should last up to 72 hours with an aerator, but under 24 hours if no water change and no aerator. Same goes for beach and blood worms. Although you can store beach worms in dry sand for up to 3 days as long as they are in a cool moist area (like under a house or caravan) and they wont stink or anything if done properly, lol Great bait all worms, top for the beaches, rivers and freshwater, lol Good luck what will you be chasing on them??? Tight lines Anthony
