No thanks. I can get by without one, have done so for 50 years in my tinny's.

I have a white tinny, but don't remember what time it was, was not paying attention to the time. I just pack up when I have enough fish and head home.
  3. Big eagle ray. They move into shallow water to suck up nippers and worms from the sand.

Headed out early this morning to catch the sunrise near Kurnell. Must have found a patch of reef, as it was reddies to 29cm, and the piggie. Drifted off the reef and onto many little spiky flatties, and eventually a couple of just legal blue spots. Not much wind, so was a slow drift. Decided to head out to deeper water, and must have dropped onto another patch of reef that I did not know about (don't have a depth sounder in my tinny, just look at the marks on the shore line). Reddies, pike, maori wrasse, red rock cod, nothing worth keeping. Moved back closer to try a few spots, and the wind just dropped off to nothing and the showers started up. Must have landed on a patch of blue spots as I pulled up a few more in among the spikeys. Not big blue spots, the best only 37cm, but enough for a couple of feeds. A few dolphins here and there, and 2 small seals cruising about.
  5. Not as bait, but I once used garlic chicken scraps as burley (night time). When the bream were lifted out of the water, I could smell them a little bit, then when gutted, it was strong garlic smells for miles around. I could taste a faint garlic odour in the bream when eating them. Every bream was stinky garlic when gutted. Slices of bacon used a couple of times, but the eels turned up before anything else.
  6. Sounds like you all had fun, it's good to hit a patch of flatties rather than one every now and then. Might have been a patch of breeders, as some lately have had fat roes.
  7. Congratulations Donna. Thought you had abandoned the forum (only kidding) My daughter moved to Qld a few weeks ago to beat the shutdown, now talk to the grand kids on Skype, not the same as in real time.
  8. There have been schools of slimies about in recent weeks, probably what they are hunting.
  9. I had them in the esky with ice water, probably not needed. 😂
  10. The sun did not help much, it was still f*****g cold for some time. 🥶
  11. Thanks Scratchie. Yes, it was bloody cold. The wind was forecast to be light, but the chill from the breeze was not nice, even when anchored. Happy to bring something home.
  12. Thank you, happy with the catch.
  13. The hand line goes for a run, you grab the line, then you feel that head shake and off it goes, and you can tell it is not a little reddie. 😂
  14. Derek, you really need to go fishing again.
  15. Headed out early this morning, motoring from Gunnamatta Bay up past Lilli Pilli. Heading into the wind, with the wind chill probably below zero, I heard 2 clunks in the bottom of the boat. (jatz crackers fell off) I am used to cooler weather than most, but this morning it was #@*&#^@ cold. Took a while for something bigger to show up, just before sunrise, it was the jewie. I thought there would not be too much to keep, so I kept it. The fillets fed myself, mum and another brother, plenty of meat in the fillets. The reddie turned up after sunrise, quite a few small ones about. Squid strips caught the fish, fish strips and pilles caught the little reddies. I up anchored and moved to several different spots, throwing a metal lure about. Probably a hundred casts before the one and only hit in South West Arm, it was the chunky tailor. Nothing else, only a few pillies jumping here and there. At least something for the table.
  16. Good work, fishing is hard at this time of year, especially with the wind.
  17. Should be happy pulling out a few like that, considering the conditions of last week, and the swell up today.
  18. The bait shop on the north side of Tom Uglys - Mac's Bait Bar - sold me some worms a few months ago. The were dug in Lake Macquarie. Being older than you, I sold a few dead yakkas for sixpence each, 2 for sixpence if they were small. The old fisho I sold them to took me to one of his spots, 50 or so years ago, and I still catch fish there today.
  19. Another great day on the water, some nice fish caught.
  20. He was, also Ken and Ray Appel. Ken built my beach rod nearly 50 years ago, still going strong with 2 runners being replaced recently. A 12 foot, 2 piece rod, so I could transport it inside my small cars in those days. He inscribed my name on it, I did not ask for that, but he said it was a one off special. Dave.
  21. When I joined the St George and Sutherland Shire Anglers Club (think that was it's name) I was invited by Gary Chapman to go fishing with him a few times. Out from Marley (I was the burley boy 🤣) and a few times beach fishing on the Central Coast beaches. I learnt a few tips from him. Now I am happy to catch a few fish, a feed or 2 for the missus and myself (not fish again she says ) and some for family members, and maybe friends if there is a bit to spare.
  22. I'm 66. It was a pleasure to win those comps, like yourself, but I could not be presented with the pockets at the presentation, as I was not 18 and could not be admitted to a licensed club, usually the Brighton Fishos. The McDowells SPORTSTAR of the WEEK was for a fishing comp that the Sutherland Shire Council held in 1970, to commemorate 200 years of the Captain Cook Landing. I was awarded 2 gold medals. Due to my age, I only just snuck in under the age limit. The current Council was not aware of this comp, as it happened 50 years ago, so I was going to loan the medals to the Council for the big 250 year celebration that was planned for May this year, but cancelled due to Coronavirus.
  23. Wazza, not one to brag, but I found these in the cupboard at home.
