  1. cheers for the tip! I'll give it a go sometime
  2. If your still wanting to get out then there's still a few places that may be out of the wind. The southern shores of careel bay and the basin are an option. Mainly trevs and flatties in careel but the basin has John Dory and Salmon that will readily take a live yakka. Unless its dangerous, i'd still put the hard yards in and have a go for yakkas at west head. If there's a break in the wind then try out Stokes Point. Don't want to jinx it but everytime i fish it i get a good catch.
  3. Have to agree about them being large... Most are between 20 and 30cm with a few over 35cm too! First thing in the morning and dusk will help with the smaller ones. If you put in a good half hour you should still get plenty of 12-15cm ones!
  4. Bread should be ok.. i prefer a mix of bread, pellets and bits of prawn/pilli. A little bit of fish oil is good but don't put in too much. This will make the yakkas think a school of tuna is around and they'll go into shut down mode. Bait jigs are the go with a tiny bit of prawn or pilli on every second hook. Handlines with tiny hooks and same baits are ok too.... Might be a tad wet and windy tomorrow though...
  5. Roseville has a few yakkas and squid but in summer. Handlines with small baits for yakkas but squid aren't exactly reliable here. Only got a few over the last few years. Spit for yakkas and squid. Any technique really. Places like Balmoral and Clontarf can fire too! Cheers, Tom
  6. Hi mate, Pittwaters a great spot when you figure it out. Definitely try and get some yakkas and squid. West head for yakkas (very easy 95% of the time here) but burley is required. Anchor around 60m off the old pillbox on the cliffs. Squid in similar area. Basin and Palm Beach weed beds for squid are worth a shot. West head itself can be a gun spot. Winter has salmon, tailor, bream, snapper and trevally. In summer kings, salmon, bonnies, jewfish and bream. Unweighted pillies go well here too. My "Spot x" would have to be stokes pt. Southern point of careel bay. Great in winter for big flatties, bream, salmon and trevally. In summer kings, flatties, bream and people have caught school jew here too. Live yakkas are gun with pilli fillets and prawns. Burley helps too! Other spots worth a look are Taylors Point, Basin, Portequese Beach/Coasters Retreat, Barrenjoey Head and Scotland Island. Some times you have to find the fish. If you don't get any fish within 1/2 hour then move onto another spot. Keep at it and you'll get some ripper fish! Flint n Steel reef at the entrance to the hawkesbury is worth a look too for kings and jews. Cheers, Tom
  7. Lovely salmon Looks about 60cm?
  8. Harbour mate. Set up a burley trail at North Head and fish a mix of weighted squid/pilchard baits, unweighted pichard baits or alternatively flick some SP's around and have a bigger bait (yakka or squid). This should get you snapper, kings (both rats and the odd bigger fish), loads of trevally, salmon and tailor. Maybe a flathead or two as well!
  9. Hurry up summer...

  10. Have to agree. They are quite tricky to get on. I found the trick is to really push it in hard. I'm using Nitro jigheads which are a different shape. Once there you wear a hole in the plastic they tend to slip down the shank alot.. Still seem appatising to the fish though!
  11. Squidgy Bloodworm 100mm wriggler for flatties and big bream. 80mm for smaller bream and trevally. Z-man 3" minnowz for flathead too. Its much harder in Winter but if you plug away at it for the remainder of winter, you should pick up a few and prepare yourself for summer
  12. Mainly structure. I did read an article not long ago that said Bantry Bay is the spot for winter kings in the harbour? Could explain my recent catches... I've got 2 at the boatramp, 1 near Bantry and 2 drifting outside roseville marina. All are between 55cm and 64cm. Still a great tussle on light gear!
  13. Depends on where you were fishing in MH but i've had big leatherjackets biting my line above the leader lately. Could explain what happened to you. Underwater boulder or snag is next best bet.
  14. Still a good session mate Whack a fillet off that slimie and send it out for a jewie!
  15. Probably not what your after but i've been getting a few rats up the back of middle harbour between roseville and bantry bay. Only one legal so far but at least 5 undersized fellas too. On a mix of unweighted baits and 100mm wrigglers. Heads are probably your best bet for a BIG winter king. Spit might have a few as well. You will have a lot of by-catch though... Cheers, Tom
  16. Great show! New season starts tomorrow night by the way!
  17. Can't wait! Apparently its going to be a hot summer too! Water temps are going to be quite high as well! Maybe we'll get a few Longtail Tuna and Spaniards coming down!
  18. If it straightened the hook then it was most likely a jew or flathead. Best bet is a monster flattie i think. Rays can do that too but not like how you described the fight. Cheers, Tom
  19. Tried a few times but only bream and trevally. Had a live yakka and half squid down both times but nothing... Didn't spot many fish on the sounder either... +1 for pickering point. Big Flathead and many get jew and kings there too!
  20. Bad luck mate! Keep at it and you'll nail some nice fish! At least you got a nice bonnie!
  21. Completely feel your dispare. I've been done on 50lb braid, locked up drag many times over the years. Twice spooled! Middle Harbor has some monster jew. Because they live in such snaggy country the big ones can be near impossible to stop! Keep going and you'll get your 20kg fish! Sounds like your one wasn't a bad size either! Cheers, Tom
  22. Yeah, definitely mack tuna! Surely that isn't normal for Sydney at this time of year? I thought they were rare enough in summer let alone winter!
