  1. Yesterday my brother and I decided to forget the wind and still go out for a fish in Botany Bay. After a few hours we decided to head in a bit closer to Silver Beach at Kurnell. I slowed up when getting closer to the groynes and went past what I thought was a crab float that was about 10 metres away at around 4 knots. It was at this time that what I thought was a crab pot float turned into a surfacing snorkler where the flag and and float must have been dragged under the water or had been inverted just showing a small area with no dive flag visible. I casually spoke to the snorkelers later at the ramp and discussed my concerns about their dive flag. They were a good pair of blokes and we communicated well and they were also surprised and concerned. It was a near miss, that could have easily been an injury or much worse.
  2. I like the comfort and visibility of either a side console, centre console or forward control. Especially when I have other people on board.
  3. Yes i did the same when i bought a 5 metre Brooker tiller steer. This was way too big a boat for a tiller. Plus I like to have full vision over the bow when navigating. It was a simple one day job, after buying all the bits to change it to a side console. For the seat i bought a eskie with a padded top and screw fixed it to the floor. Most modern day out boards will allow you to easily change them from tiller steer to forward steer.
  4. I just bought a quintrex 510 frontier and my mate has a quintrex 481 top ender. Both great boats to fish from and are good on all types of water. Also have a look at the Clark range of boats. I was open minded to all the brands when looking. But went to the quintrex again mainly for the resale value and I liked the new shape of the frontier. I also went the etec which is my second etec. I prefer these over the 4 strokes. You also get 10 years warranty on the boat, motor trailer package when you put an etec on a telwater product. Good luck with your purchase.
  5. Another great report and catch there yowie.....
  6. Hello all, Just have picked up my new boat with a Minn Kota. It has a single 100 A/h battery. I am looking at recharging the independent battery used for the Minn Kota off a suitable regulator connected to the main batteries or using a separate charger. I welcome any suggestions that will help in my choice.. Thanks in advance..
  7. I was shown this method aboard 30 years ago by a chef. Have been using it ever since.
  8. Some prize winners there - good work......
  9. Do not fill it with water. Boats are to displace water - not hold it....... I would expect an old boat to leak. We have an old savage, the is known a leaky, but is a great boat. Make sure that the inside is dry and then look where the water is entering. As mentioned, it is most likely from the bung area.....
  10. If your mate was that stupid to blame you, you are better off apart anyway, as who in their right mind would hold someone responsible for that.
  11. What a pitty, I have just come back from Forster (Tuncurry) today. Would have been more than happy to have a look. I will be back up there early October if that helps?
  12. Thanks. This the way I have been advised and have dicided on the manual deploy. As for the price. It was built into the deal. The manual deploy is a 55lb. I am looking at changing the lowrance to the hummingbird and getting the I pilot link.
  13. Hello All, I have just bought a Quintrex 510 Fontier at the Boat show. Did the deal with a Minn Kota Terrova . Thinking I may upgrade to the Ulterra with the self deploy an stow function. Has anyone had or heard of any good or bad experiences with the Minn Kota Ulterra with the self deploy? As i have heard that they have had some warranty issues...
  14. Turn the battery switch to No2 and charge both batteries at the same time. If your charger does not come up to being fully charged, then one of your batteries are gone.
  15. What are the voltages on each of the batteries. You may not be getting the required voltage from one battery alone.
  16. I went today and it was good. Caught the train and light Rail there and then walked up to Town Hall station and caught the train on the way. Seems a bit better laid out this year, but I thought that there was not as many exhibitors. On the plus side I bought a Quintrex 510 Frontier with all the accessories that I wanted. In my opinion there are some great deals this year as well..
  17. Good reading and good feedback - thanks...
  18. Thinking of buying a Quintrex 510 Frontier... Would anyone have any private reviews that they could share of the Frontier range? Thanks in advance
  19. Some very good points here....
  20. I have sold everything from a 12ft tinny to a 45 foot cruiser. All I want is a fair price for me (the seller) and them the buyer. I do not tolerate demanding or rude buyers, nor tyre kickers. Water Testing a boat is way different to test driving a car. A car you can easy drive around a block. A boat you may need to travel some distance to a boat ramp, then after the test you need to wash boat and trailer flush the motor and then pack away - this all takes a whole lot more effort than a car. All I request, is some commitment from the Buyer. If they are not happy to provide that commitment, I will also walk away from a sale as a seller. There is always a genuine buyer out there when you sell at the right price.
