    Hi,

Probably this has been raised previously, couldn't find a topic to read.

Can I keep a small boat (4-5M) on the street? I know some councils doesn't like it to stay more than 3 weeks in the same spot.

Where do most people keep their boats?

    Thanks !

Most people  keep their boat that size in a lug , carport, driveway, backyard etc.I kicked the car out on the driveway and have mine in a lug.

I wouldn't own a boat if i had to keep it anywhere else.

That's my personnel thoughts though as there's  too theives walking around at night in all suburbs and don't like giving them something for free except something i can't mention here.

As others said ring council and hope you don't have whinging neighbours or the above mentioned thieves walking around.

      Good luck mate.

  2. As others have said nice rig mate.I thought you'd be happy with the 30 as my quinny goes real well with the 3 of us heavy weights running a 30 yam smoker.Don't be too harsh on yourself and enjoy your boat for what it is.I had the option of wide funnels on my quinny but elected not to and just run rails. My rod holders, baitboard, etc are rail mounted. I also couldn't justify t the expense of a electric outboard and people still caught fish using lures before they were even invented too.

I keep thinking of selling mine but can't think of a reason too as it suits us fine and costs bugger all to own, run, maintain.

    Enjoy your boat mate.

Sounds like you have a dream job mate, lucky you as it's a rare thing!

If you do have an E-tag it's still worth registering for the cash back scheme imo.

There is no sums to do, if you ever travel on the M5 you just pay the GST only after the claim.

Not sure about the cost or claim of a trailer though?

    Cheers mate.Will take another look.

  4. I work a 7 day fortnight mate and usually do catch the train.Driving whilst this virus is going on.I don't use the M5 toll or any toll for that matter other than a handful of times my entire life.

I looked at the M5 cash back and it's simply not worth it when i did the sums.

They pay extremely well where i work and wouldn't travel that far for the average wage.Love the pay, roster and time off.

  5. I travel from Campbelltown to Artarmon for work.I can tell you klnow it pretty much takes the same time to get there and back regardless of toll or non toll roads. You'd need to be an absolute fool to pay for a toll on say the M5 to sit there in peak hour traffic doing 10k or standing still like they do every morning. You pay a toll for the privilege of doing the speed limit and getting somewhere quicker than other routes in my eyes.

They can have their tolls as far as I'm concerned I'll go the free route and get there just as quick thanks.

  6. Fish anywhere in the Port hacking with me and you're guaranteed to come home empty handed.I'm great at feeding the fish my bait though. That I can give you tips on.

In all seriousness the few fish I've caught is in the SWA,LillyPilly,Yowie bay,GRAYS POINT, etc at different times using bait.

I'm just a casual fisherman and certainly no expert.

      Good luck mate.

30k was what was told to me by a tackle shop owner and i believe it was the police who told him.

Fished out of Port Kembla on Monday (Yesterday) Pulled over once by water police and by fisheries. Asked us for safety gear status and where we lived. Asked them what they were doing and he said that the last two boats they pulled over were from Sydney and were told to exit the water and go home. Other cop said that on Friday they turned a lot of boats travelling to Wollongong over and sent them home. The said at this stage they are just warning people.

Long way to go to be sent home after just getting on the water. One of the boats we saw them turn away looked like it had only just launched.

It's a curly one. If you come down from Picton or Appin you are deemed to be Sydney so should you travel 60k to Sydney or 30k to Wollongong.

On the bright side we landed 16 good Flatties between two of us. Could have bagged out but figured we had plenty, good size to them as well and only in 12m of water so was very easy fishing.

I live in Appin and can tell you now it's more than 30ks to Port kembla, Bellambi, windang etc.

    Hi Fab1.

I'm trying to find stuff that requires minimal care and was hoping someone had seen something. There are sufficient materials out there that suffer corrosion less. I'm trying to find something which moves away from the steel based products. For example, alloys or aircraft grade aluminium. Maybe something with bronze or brass inserts. Having a non-rust coating or plastic even if they make it rigid enough. Mostly I use it just to handle and unhook fish when it is a bit risky for my fingers, for example the jewfish which had swallowed it down the mouth far enough that it could still be reached but not so far that it was going to result in a far worse injury to the fish.

    Regards,

    Derek

Fair enough mate.Good luck on your quest.

  9. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but everything will rust if you don't look after it.If you can't spare the 2 seconds to wash and wipe some protecting on your gear like pliers just keep blowing money on new ones. There's 2 choices.Look after your gear or keep blowing good money after bad.

It doesn't state 30km anywhere, ask the police what is local, they are enforcing or interpreting the order, its up to their discretion……………...or just roll the dice 😉

That's what I'm afraid of.It's not set in stone and not worth the risk.Personally if they allow fishing for food it should be anywhere as long as you follow the other rules.

Catching up.  Just another consideration. I had never ending problems with my Aux 4ST 15HP Mariner carbie - float/ float chamber / jets needed constant cleaning. The fuel ran of the same filter that serviced my EFI main motor - which is way more sensitive to clean fuel then the carbie motor - so fuel supply or fuel filter was not the issue in my case.

I started to run the carbie motor dry by disconnecting the fuel line during the last phase of wash down and have not had any problems since. This is a good 4+yrs now. The problem for me was the stale fuel left in the carbie and low pressure fuel pump evaporating and leaving behind gunk which would then block the carbie. Just a thought.

    Cheers Zoran

Key to carbie outboards Is running them often and keeping the fuel fresh to prevent issues.

I run mine fortnightly wether it is used or not throwing the fuel in the car and replenishing monthly regardless too.

Draining carbs and mucking about like that is not needed if you do this unless of course you have crappy fuel filters, fuel hoses, tank, get water in the fuel or simply want to long term store and forget.

I wonder how often boaties maintain their auxillaries let alone run and flush them often? I'm guessing very few except guys like yourself mate.

  12. Another symptom you can suffer if not very careful is "abdominal expansion". I hear it's triggered from boredom which then leads to excessive alcoholic/food consumption to fight off the disease.

Well it was such a small hole and there was a product that was made just for that repair - which meant I could do it myself DIY on the spot (5hr cure time) and still go fishing the day after.

Welding would require so much more effort - drain the tank completely, remove tank from boat, probably have to fill with non volatile liquid or inert gas, then weld, then test, then drain non volatile - refit tank etc ... would be a job for a specialist. I actually started searching for tank repairers and was about to make phone calls when I came across the Permatex product.

BTW, if the pipe integrity had been compromised - I would have definitely pursued the welding repair path.

Hahaha ... you are showing your age ... plasticine ... any younger ones would have said Play-doh !

Yes, yes, 250L I know. It's even worse when I have to top up the Cruiser (145L) as well. I take up two bowsers at the Servo and always make sure to politely tell folks queued up behind me -- " I'll be a while. "

But the fuel bill comes with the territory - it's such an addictive pass-time and in the end we only get 80 or so laps around the sun and you can't take the green stuff with you.

    Cheers Z

😂😂😂You're not wrong about not being able to take the Green stuff with you.I hope the servo has given you a VIP card and they roll out the red carpet for you.

I notice you use a clip on your lure. there are some better ones around, that are smaller and work well.

    Cheers.

Hi mate.I don't use clips i use a lefties loop knot. That particular lure i found out fishing.

  15. Great detective work Z.With the application of that putty you did it looks like you were good at playing with plasticine as a kid.I'm sure the Family appreciated the extra fuel in their car.250L?I don't think I've gone through that much fuel in the 9 yrs I've had my boat.Glad you're paying for it and not me.😂😂

  16. Just found a box of hardbodied lures that had rusty hooks on them as moisture had gotten in.

A quick way to save the hooks is dunking them in hydrochloric acid for a couple of minutes followed by dunking them in  freshwater to neutralise the acid. You will see the acid bubbling eating the rust away.I use a hook sharpener on the trebles afterwards, let dry and store. It won't harm the lures finish at all.

Be very careful and wear gloves and goggles if you're a goose as the acid will burn if you spill it on your skin or splash your eyes. Also don't stand over it as the fumes are strong.

This works great on any rusty metal.I use it all the time including electrolysis.

    Cheers.

Finally good to head back on the water, the government has realised that fishing is a form of exercise, and a way of providing  some food for the table. It is also a good for your mental well-being - many fishos go a bit agro if they cannot wet a line - especially after spending much time at home in the current situation.

Headed out early this morning, to the deep water up from Lilli Pilli. Threw out some baits on ganged hooks hoping for a tailor, well, only one bite from one. Just a little bit of movement on a line, not much weight then the hooks are chewed off and the line is frayed. Probably a reasonable sized tailor. Tailor mentality is to chew on some food, they cannot bite through the hooks, so just swallow everything, chew on the line and swim off for the next meal.

Pulled out the bream and gurnard on fish strips, and the jackets took small strips of squid. Plenty of jackets, but so hard to hook today, and many of them that were hooked dropped off half way up to the boat. Plenty of reddies but none legal.

Also pulled out a jewie, but only around the 60cm mark.

2 rat kingies turned up after a while, and they were feeding on the burley and whatever else I threw into the water. I put a bream hook on my whiting rod, 6 pound mono, and I checked that the line was ok and not frayed or damaged. Put on a chunk of fish, dropped it over and a kingie swam straight up and swallowed the bait about a foot under the surface. I lifted the rod tip and hooked up. The kingie did not swim off but shook it's head sideways a few times and was gone. I pulled up to see that the line was frayed and the hook missing. My conclusion is that the head shaking allowed the kingie's teeth to chafe the line to the point that it's real breaking strain was severely reduced. Not happy. The other kingie stayed around for a while, ate some more burley, but nothing with a hook in it.

Headed home after that. Plenty of other boats about, many appeared to be heading outside.

Good stuff as usual mate.Out on the boat alone would have to be one of the safest places you could be with everything that's going on.My guess is a few that have been put off work for whatever reason are having a fish too.

Ok everyone you will see the DPI site has again been updated as was posted a few hours ago.

This would be because of this latest change issued at 4.36pm today.

It says you can fish but they don't want you to go on a road trip and fish half the day.

It takes me around an hour to get to any ramp i use and I do fish half the day or night. It is still fishing though isn't it?

Ps.I only fish with my wife and son ever and I don't mix with anyone at the ramp or on the water for that matter. When I go at night We are lucky to see 3 other people if that.

      Who can clarify?

    Cheers.
