I've fully serviced my reels,respooled them,sorted tackle,lifted floor in boat,serviced engine,serviced trailer,drained fuel,replaced bearings,made up rigs,installed new baitboard and have run out of fishing related things to do except sit in the boat making vroom,vroom sounds.
I'm ready to go fishing.I want to go tomorrow but am waiting for a go ahead.

Just finished servicing a cheap shimano reel I've had for 20 ish years and thought to myself how many others use cheap rods and reels?I know alot of you use high end gear but surely there's others out there like me.

Wheel nuts like all nuts have specified torque values depending on application.
As Frank points out they are "supposed" to be dry/clean along with dry/clean studs and then tightened to specified torque.
I've lost count how many times I've removed and replaced wheels on trailers,cars,horse floats,etc over the years and have used everything from Wd 40,crc,engine oil,tranny fluid,spray greases,etc,etc,etc.
All wheels & nuts have been put on/off with with anything from basic wheel braces to breaker bars/sockets to rattle guns.
Iv'e never checked the torque on anything except critical things like cylinder head bolt's on cars etc.
I do start all nuts by hand including wheel nuts and tighten all bolts in a star pattern until tight.
There's a difference between tight,tight and tight and you will only gain that from experience regardless of tightening by hand or using rattle guns, etc.
(You get a feel for it).
Rattle guns have pressure settings not to mention a trigger too.
I have never lost a wheel,broken a stud or had a stuck wheel on anything in decades doing what i do.
All i can say is do what you feel works for you that gives you piece of mind as that's all that matters in the end.regardless .

To add to what the guys said i use anti seize compound or grease on the threads and on the face of the hubs on trailer wheels and spare.
For a seized nut there's many ways to get them off but one of the essiest is heating the nut with a blow torch (Portable propane torches from hardware are cheap) then touching a candle stick to the thread area or base of nut.Melted wax will wick down into the threads and it will normally loosen off like butter once this is done.

Great report and catch as usual Yowie.We fisher Friday night for a couple hours around the moorings for plenty of those pesky pinkies a solid whiting, 2 good tailor and a nice squid.My son got something good and lost it at the boat just as i grabbed the net.

I am careful with tackle its passengers who aren’t so careful. Always amazes me how people can damage/lose your stuff and not have the courtesy to own up and tell you.
That's humans for you mate.I stopped lending Tools/gear out decades ago due to that very point you make.They break them or lose them and it's sorry then you're left footing the bill to replace them.

Pulled my floor up on my boat for a clean to find my spare key under there.How long it's been there is anyones guess.(I lift/clean yearly roughly).Found a pea size ball sinker too.

Three hours late he rocks up with his first words being "you bought it it's yours" my heart sunk as I cast my eye under the hull seeing poorly matched paint and patchy filling. Walking to the back I simply couldn't believe how bashed the engine was and a totally written off propeler. Anything that could be rusty was, even under the cowling things were grim to say the least. Lie after lie started dribbling from the owners mouth, who wasn't even the person who I had been dealing with from the boatsales add. Contrary to the add it hadn't had just one owner either and the previous owner had lived in QLD where the boat was kept on an open mooring, hence the very poor gelcoat above the waterline.
The regular service history was a service in 2012 and 2016. The safety kit consisted of flares that expired in 2013. Just about every repair and fitting had been done with steel screws or string. Trailer wheels nuts snapped off and incorrect rollers for boat. Every drop of fuel drained from the tank, dead batteries, the list goes on and on.
My drive home was depressing to say the least, my wife had already given me the 'told you so treatments n the phone!!!
Trying to move on and get the boat ready for the water as soon as possible, dumped a heap of money into it this last week and trying to put the poor start behind me, after all what are mortgages for!!!!!
He saw you coming a mile away mate. For an expeienced boatie that's owned so many boats you'd think you would of learnt a looooong time ago not to depart with your hard earned until you were 110% sure everything was honky dory.

I am wanting to remove one of the transom nuts and replace with a bolt on type of lock, now i realise that there are a good few available on the likes of evilbay but just wondering would a car wheel locking nut do the same job as long as i made sure the thread was the same.
Or does anyone have any home made ideas for a bolt on lock not the slider tube type as mine does not have the 2 tightening levers.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Best lock if it's to prevent theft is a tack weld on the existing nut.Nothing is truly anti-theft though. I could have pretty much anything off within sec/min including wheel nuts.
Some photos would help guys recommend options too.

Obviously, if less than the required amount goes in and the top hole is overflowing then you either wait for it to go down or turn the gears until you can add the whole amount.
What about when you tilt the engine all the way up and then back down again? Same thing.
As they say there's only one way to find out.Personally I'd keep filling from the bottom drain plug.

You can get away with just the one bottle if you have access to air( I use compressed air)and put a small hole in the base of the bottle when you can't manually squeeze anymore by hand and give it a squirt with compressed air to force the fluid into the gearcase.
Another option is filling a large syringe and injecting the oil in .
I've used both methods for various applications and they do work.
