  1. Great catch there. After reading a lot of raiders keep tailor for eating, I will try it this winter. They normally go straight back out as a livie! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. Great work as usual yowie! The hacking on a string.
  3. And too add, what's the best method of removing it from a fibreglass boat?
  4. G'day raiders, Yesterday we had a few relos up here, so instead of fishing like normal, the boat was used for tubing and sightseeing around the bay. On the way back to the ramp, the boys wanted a quick 30mins fishing, so I said what the heck! The eldest was throwing around a soft vibe and jagged a decent sized cuttlefish. Upon retrieval to the boat, he lifted it in and the line was spinning and it decided that it was time to let some ink go! It managed to cover all 3 boys onboard but I somehow didn't get touched. Needless to say I nearly fell off the boat in laughter! So, it got me thinking. How many of you raiders out there have copped a spray of ink? Please feel free to post any photos that you may have! Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. Great effort there hornets and congrats on your PB. A couple of nice fish to take home and show the family. Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  6. +1. I don't use scents on lures but with any fishing, if nothing is working try something different!
  7. Best advise I could offer is don't be in a rush, stick to your intended spend, look for well known brands, test drive and wait until winter as prices seem to drop! And remember if it's to good to be true, it usually is! Good luck! Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. Most commercial fishos there can't wait for the government to buy their licenses from them. Hard work for not much reward. It has been on the agenda for years.
  9. Some good fish and great photos there stan! Gees, I was up the goldy a few weeks ago looking to do some fishing. Would have been great for a local to show me around. Good luck with your next targets. Look forward to your next post. Cheers scratchie!!!
  10. Some good fish there! The smile on their face says it all, good on you dad! Saturday was a great day on the water. Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. Congrats on your new pb! Guides can be a good way to teach you a thing or two! Now to put those things you learn into practise. I'm sure you'll need some new gear now. Lol. Good luck on your next outing! Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. Great report. I could tell in your post you enjoyed yourself immensely. Maybe a tip, if your chasing kings and you catch a bonnie, pin it through the upper lip and send it out live on a slow troll. The big kings love them! Also, bait on a jig head is a great technique I use all time especially with prawns. They float down a lot more naturally and if you hit the bottom, retrieve in long loops. You'll be surprised. Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. Effort and a half mate! From a kayak that's a good fish! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  14. No worries. Skeleton rock would be a good start and then there are two reefs. One n/e and one s/e off that rock. Bloody navionics playing up on me or I'd send you the gps marks!
  15. Herbo, Firstly welcome to the forum but unfortunately on a sad note. I have moved this post to the appropriate section. You made mention of other forums you can use? There is no better fishing forum than Fishraider. I wish you all the best in the recovery of your gear and make sure you report it to police. Cheers scratchie mod team
  16. Well done on two great fish! Seal rocks is an amazing place but most good fishing there is from a boat! Some really good reefs up there! Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. Was good to catch up! Don't blame you leaving, you'd been out for a while. Keep at it. Everytime you go out you learn something new. I might get a chance next weekend too! Cheers scratchie!!!
  18. Couldn't agree more fab1. Happy birthday mate and I couldn't think of a better way to spend the day! I'm sure the other fisho was grateful of your gesture. Cheers scratchie!!!
  19. I agree, send it straight back out there
  20. Thank for the replies. I get more enjoyment watching my kids fishing than I do catching a good fish myself. Can't wait to take my boy to Darwin with a heap of fellow raiders! I tried to explain to him that up there that is a standard fish, line peeling, rod bending etc. I think he's a bit worried! Lol Bring it on!!!
  21. G'day raiders, Looked at the ocean this morning as I was leaving for the kids footy and wishing I was going somewhere else. Whilst on my way to footy that I made a call to fellow raider Garfield28 knowing he was out doing what I was wishing for. Any way with footy finished and on my way home my eldest gives me a call and says "dad get you ass home now we have to take the boat out". Well, I hit top gear and the boy had the boat loaded ready to go when I got home. Straight to the ramp and made another call to Garfield telling him we are on the way if he wanted to follow is up to broughton. We met up collecting livies and straight up to north rock. Caught a bonnie and sent that out, another rod with a slimie and then we started dropping some bait strips. The boy was on to a king straight away but lost it boat side. We picked through a few reefies and didn't get a touch on our livies. Garfield decided to call it quits and we pulled anchored and drifted for a while. Then the seas came alive there were fish smashing everywhere. We were throwing some flick baits on light gear and landing kings and bonito regularly. Thought we'd leave there and try another spot for some snapper. On the way there we came across acres of slimies getting hammered. So we sent one out on the livie rod and slowly trolled it around the schools. In no time the 8000 spheros goes off and I gave to the boy. Loaded up the drag and the reel was singing. We chase the fish for as the fight ensued and after a good 10mins we have it boat side. A nice 8kg(estimate) mac tuna. It's great watching your son catch a good fish and the excitement they get from it. It also gave the boy some good practise for our trip to Darwin in October! After that we called it a day and travelled back in calm seas at 35knots all the way back to the ramp! All fish were released today. Thanks for reading, Cheers scratchie!!!
  22. Well done pete. Not a bad plan B there. The weather is always the one thing we can't control. You were both still smiling, so happy days! Cheers scratchie!!!
