  1. Welcome on board ED. Great to have you join the mod team! Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. I have 4 kids and I occasionally don't fish! This is when I'm either sleeping or in the middle of dinner! Sorry, I sometimes fish in my sleep! I guess it's like with anything in life! If you don't have time, make time! YOLO! Cheers scratchie!!!
  3. Do it, do it, do it. Something you'll never forget! The days go quick! Can't believe the trip is over already. You should be ok with that combo, but then again!!! Watching the line getting pulled of a setup like that is mind blowing! thanks mate. Ray promised next time he'll take me to the good spot! Lol Ray, your the man! Great bunch of blokes you got together! The most exhilarating fishing experience of my life and I'll never forget it! Thanks a million!
  4. Jye, firstly welcome to fishraider. Try going to the same spot and use a running sinker, swivel and trace to hook and put on some fresh hawkesbury prawns. I almost guarantee you'll get a bite from something. That will be the first step! As belligro has suggested, use the search function on this site. There is a wealth of knowledge here!!! Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. They are a fair bit higher and are protected in different swell. There's still enough wash and drop off for them to cast and get a few. The platform is mostly flat and does not have a cliff backing it.
  6. Thanks FM. I must also add, the platforms I have chosen that they are allowed to fish are very beginner level. But inforce that the dangers remain the same.
  7. Welcome back! What a great video to watch, very cool. Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. My boys go rock fishing after school nearly everyday, they are 10 & 14. A few things worth mentioning, I have taught them over the last few years of the dangers of rock fishing....... 4 main rules. 1. They must observe the conditions for at least 10 mins before they pick their platform. 2. They must wear a life jacket at all times, no exception. 3. They must have an exit strategy. This means if they are swept off the rocks or fall in, where are they going to swim to exit. It's not always possible to remount the platform you left. 4. As mentioned, never fish alone. To add weight to the reason I let them go are a few factors. They are very sensible kids, they know their area well and they understand what I expect from them. And quiet often I join them 1/2 hour later! I will also mention, they are very competent swimmers at junior life saving level. I have also drummed into them that NO piece of equipment (rod/reel/bucket etc) or fish, is worth risking your life for. Once it's in the drink let it sink! It certainly can be a very challenging and rewarding fishing experience. But remember that it is the most dangerous sport in the world! Cheers scratchie!!!
  9. I might have to hit you up if I can sneak out!
  10. On my last trip I found that sometimes a fully locked drag don't help either! Here is my spheros 14000 reel, 15-24kg rod and I still couldn't stop this thing.........scary!!! I would only be quessing but I think the drag setting was about 10-15kg. I couldn't pull it off. Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. Well done mick! That's exactly what fishraider is all about. I enjoy reading posts like that. Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. All the beaches along soldiers will produce either flatty or bream especially if the high tide is in the afternoon. Definitely worth bring your yak up and fishing the racks behind the boat ramp or the wall adjacent to the ramp. Even if your not fishing just yakking around the bay is awesome! Casting a few of wanda headland is always worth a go as well. Good luck cheers scratchie!!!
  13. Was that the good spot Ray??? cheers scratchie!!!
  14. Good stuff yern! Nothing like a good feed of flatty to wet the appetite! Good practice as well for the hawkesbury classic! Cheers scratchie!!!

  25. Between us anglers on the boat, we've done some research and it appears to be a juvenile grey nurse! So the skipper was correct. Leopard sharks have a total different appearance.
