That is massive!! Makes my trumpeter whiting up here look like white bait! Sure it's not a bonefish? Lol.
Thanks for sharing mr. Groper!

That certainly is a monster trev! Would have been a great fight. I caught one at 45cm last week and thought it was a kingy too! And releasing it for someone else to have a go, top job!!

Mines been updated and it's not even my fish.. My wife's father handed her down his rod from when he was her age (23) and her goal was to catch a fish with it. Being an 11 foot rod I took her rockfishing with it and after a great battle and great determination from my wife she landed a 10kg longtail tuna with her dads rod.. Now the rod is retired mounted on the wall along with a photo of her fish.. Great memory

Just the move from Melbourne to Sydney is a positive one! Lol. If you plan fishing out of botany, there are heaps of raiders that work that area. There is some great info on this site for that area too. Just seek and you will find!!! Good luck with the move and happy fishing!
Tight lines,

IMO, it doesn't matter what you use. It's how you use it.
Example number 1: Finding a big school of bream under an urban wharf. One fisherman is fishing a small grub style plastic on a 1/20 jIghead, while another is casting a 4" paddle tail 1/2 head. I bet you know which pulled the 42cm bream from this school.
Example number 2: Both fisherman are targeting big bream on bait. One assumes the fish are "way out there" and casts a good 60m+ out into open water using a heavy sinker to increase distance. The other is fishing ultra light gear (4lb leader) and NO WEIGHT (unweighted) well rigged prawns or small strips of mullet IN CLOSE to the rockwall. I bet you know which pulled a 4kg bag in this situation.
The debate will forever continue as lure technology advances. I myself am a pretty dedicated lure fisho. Particularly when it comes to plastics, although nothing beats the summer topwater bite! I still use bait from time to time (often when chasing jewfish) but when i do i focus on the small things and they make a BIG difference. When i "occasionally" chase bream on bait, i fish almost exclusively unweighted. It makes a hell of a difference, especially in my local system.
Bait isn't always suited to some situations. Same goes for lures. What would you cast into a bust up? A prawn? Or perhaps a metal or stickbait. When the kings are shut down, what would you throw at them? A live squid or a plastic?
Each to their own but it's the small things in our techniques that make the difference.
Back on topic, terrific fish Trung! How are you liking the new certate? It looks the goods thats for sure. Definitely looking at getting one.
Cheers, Tom
Well put Tom! Each to there own. I'm a bait fisho but love trolling lures!
So I'm 50/50. Trung, you are the master of lures!
Nice catch!

Well done mr fish. For most people that is a Jew of a life time, yet that is the first one you caught. It smashes my first of 22cm and about 200gm lol.
Well done young man!

A memory for me that has always burnt deeply in my mind, is the day I was on camp at Stewart house, curl curl. I was about 11 and the teachers took us fishing at narrabeen lakes! I casted a handline off the embankment with prawn baited and after about 5mins... Bang, I'm on. Trying to retrieve this fish, I can still picture it zooming up and down the lake and after what seemed a lifetime up comes a bream that went 40cm.
That night the chef at camp cooked it up for me and it was amazing. This is what hooked me on fishing and 27years on I still get that same feeling when I'm hooked into a good fish! Tight lines,

Hi, if you look at the second post in this section, there are 6 pages from raiders on jewfish tactics.
You should get a lot out of it. I did.

Jewstalker, reading your post made me feel excited and then sick! Now I'm sitting here thinking of all the ones that I have had zoom off and then lost them due to errors!
I understand when nibbles said my condolences!
Although, it's better to have hooked and lost, than never hooked at all.

and the definition of "full size" ??
When it peels line off a decent rod set up! Then it's a snapper!!

I'm no expert.
Think no.1 is a parrot fish and no.2 an estuary cod.

Hi Guys,
fished Port Stephens over 3 days this week. Tried hard for little...... A few stripes and dolphin fish. The game club only managed a few sharks and dollies. Born free fished up a seals for little.
Water going uphill off Boughton. Water got warmer to 23.6 towards all mark. Plenty of bait in the 120m mark. We stayed for any hours for zeros. In addition, we fined JB two weeks before, hooked a nice black about 150+ on 80. Pulled the hooks after 15 mins. Also got two wahoo around 12kgs.
Dale
Fished port today for zeros. Very disappointed. Water was 24.4deg calm, little wind. Couldn't find bait anywhere. I'm thinking the season over up here! But the weather tomorrow is looking outstanding, so maybe one more go!!!

They are common enough, yet hard to target. And yes they are very good eating! Are they rare to get in NSW, or is it common?
Are they good eating?
Cheers scratchie!!!
Don't waste your money on lures..they don't work!
