  1. Hi raiders,

IMO it depends where you fish. Up here at port, the summer months fish ok but between may-oct is the best time to catch the bigger ones. Especially off the beaches. They chase the mullet that run from the hunter rivers up to the bay! Which makes Stockton beach a great time of year to chase Jew! However they are up here all year round if you know where to target them!

  2. Hi briso,

I fish coffs mainly at Xmas time, so I'm not sure what's about this time of year! But I generally fish the eastern side of split solitary. Anchor up on the reef about 300m east of the island. Burley up with pillies, and there's a lot of good snapper around there. Have caught models up to 8kg. Also see a lot of boats head straight out from the ramp about 8-10km trolling. I generally troll all the way to the islands, had 2 marlin chase lures but didn't hook up. Solitary island not bad either, just be cautious of marine parks. Hope this helps!

  3. Any fisho worth their weight in knowledge will tell you it was a shark. Very characteristic of them to pause.. It's not a Jew and its not a tailor.. To run take a real and bite you off without reeding you it's a Noah

Agree with brettmann, my money's on a shark!!!

  4. Lessons learnt...

    I've had gear:

    Taken by waves

    Made useless by sand

    Banged on the rocks

    Taken by fish

    Broken by my own carelessness

Broken by other people's carelessness and

    Lost because I've forgotten it...

Life goes on, don't beat yourself up.

  5. Nice work boat art were u fishing with lee that day . I'm hopin to get in Sydney next week an have ago at my first billfish still 0-0-0

. What drag pressure would you run on tld 50 . Is 7kg about the mark or thinking a bit lighter to give more chance to let the fish turn an sink hook

For me, I run 1/3 the capacity of the line. E.g 24kg = 8kg drag. Hope that helps,

    Cheers scratchie!!!

  6. Sorry to hear that. Count to 10 take a deep breath. Now remember the reason you were out there, to fish! There's a scumbag born every minute! Your just unlucky to run into 3 of them!

I hope curse #4 gets them!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

  7. I use willy weather and it has let me down a couple times but more often than not its good enough. I went out on 9 knot winds. They were raging at 52km per hour after getting out there.

That is one of the sites I use too. But no matter what site it is, there all pretty much contradict each other or are way off the mark.

  8. Looks like you both had a great time and the young fella looks excited! I'd be stoked with the result you had with the keys. It does show there still some decent people about!

  9. Hey, I have tried this with fresh ocky I got from the co-op. Thought ocky would be ok to target jewys but didn't get a touch, yet my squid on the other line saw constant action! Good luck!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

  10. Good on you mate! I've seen them in the bay this week a couple of times busting up around the anchorage. The weekend however was like a washing machine out front, so couldn't get out there. Where a outs around fingal were you when you got the second one??

    Cheers scratchie!!!

  11. Without sounding like a whinger! As most of us fishos do is check the weather on a regular basis! There are many different ways you can source the information yet most of it is via the Internet.

From the 3 sites I use, all of them said all week that Saturday and Sunday were less than a meter swell and less than 4knot winds with smooth seas.

This was certainly not the case, swell up, wind up and the sea resembled a washing machine!

What a disappointment for me after a long week.

I reckon I could predict the weather more accurately with the instruments available to them!

    What do you think?

    Cheers scratchie!!!
