  1. Woolooware Bay is indeed where you will find oyster leases. They dont fish anywhere near as good as they used to when the whole bay was full of racks. As Fish53 says your best bet is right down the back The map Katoe put up shows that it is part of the aquatic reserve the regulation reads :- Taking, gathering, destroying, injuring or interfering with any fish or marine vegetation (whether dead or alive), other than taking fish using hand held lines or lawful recreational nets from that part of Towra Point Aquatic Reserve referred to as the refuge zone shown in Schedule 2. I don't set my pots down there so it doesn't bother me much but there is no specific reference to invertebrates and it says you can use nets. I'd like to see their interpretation cause i reckon from the above description you can drop crab pots. Dave
  2. Have a go for the squid in the kelp beds at Salmon Haul Bay - between the fisheries and Bass and Flinders Pt. Occasionally You will get them at the point at the western end of Jibbon Beach. Dave
  3. I had the pots out this morning for a couple of hours near shell point for not much luck. Consolation was though a bag of big whiting Dave
  4. Theres blueswimmers in the Bay all year round just very few in the cooler months. At the moment though they are patchy and your best bet will be Towra and potentially Brighton. The trap you are using is better suited to muddies. Get yourself four (was five last year) witches hats and some fresh mullet. Spread them about 20-30 feet apart and check them every 30-40 mins and if you havent got any after two checks move them. Cant help with the squid as i havent had a proper dig for them in the bay for ages Dave
  5. Salt water in the bags is the best tip. I've had vac pac side by side with squid in tupperware filled with seawater and whilst its a close call the tupperware came out better. Dave
  6. This is why i hate summer. Well the fact that cricket is on instead of League as well. Fortunately i have a nice quiet ramp close by that gets very little traffic. Dave
  7. For mine there are two priceless blackfishing articles that i have sent a few people to and if you ever need advice on squiding Slinkys article is better than anything you will find in a $10 magazine. Dave
  8. Had a couple of hours on the Woronora river this morning working my way from Bonnet Bay out to Como Bridge. I drifted flats, the channel and up against the rocks using prawns, mullet strips and a few plastics. Spent most of the morning throwing back undersize flathead with a couple going close to legal but not quite getting there. I did manage to catch a bream that was smaller than the mullet strip. The greedy bugger took a 2/0 hook that only just fitted in his mouth. By the time i got to the mouth of the Wonny it was top of the tide so i had a bit of a dig under the bridge. I flicked a 4" Gulp minnow on the western side of the bridge for a while and landed a little Jew that went about 50cm. By this stage i reckon i was on about fish number 12 without landing a keeper so i figured it was time to shoot through. No pics sorry as the phone was flat. Dave
  9. I've always been worried about using nail polish. Does the smell eventually disappear? Dave
  10. In general the possession limit isn't there for the average fisho. Not many inspectors are going to follow you home to check for one or two extra bream. When it has been enforced in the past is blokes who get caught selling or have a heap of fish on them and are pretty suspect. If i remember rightly there was a bloke with kings stashed in hidey holes in his boat a few years ago. They then found a heap more at his home. Dave
  11. Not sure what your looking for but I just bang three on loop knots about two foot apart. Then do a real slow troll over shallow weed beds in the hacking. DAve
  12. I've used the Lanskey system and whilst they are great its a bit too much effort for me. There was a comment about ceramics but I beg to differ I now use a Japanese Yaxell ceramic pull through and its a cracker. Easy to use, not too expensive and works a treat. Dave
  13. Im dirty work got in the way of going to this event it would have come in very handy.
  14. ive got a different system in mine but a mate has a tea strainer glued over the top of his one. Dave
  15. Good Luck Steve. I'll be out in the Hacking too. First outing since i changed the the boats winter uniform to summer. i will be the bloke in the poly not catching any fish. Dave
  16. Yeh but you cant pick up brass screws like this one can. Edit Beaten by a second by BloodKnot We had a couple of these kicking around at Garden Island when i was an apprentice there a million years ago Dave

    Buckets

I am forever in trouble at home not for collecting so many buckets but for mumbling quietly "a man can never have enough buckets" every time the missus comments on them. Dave
  18. I might be wrong here but i always presumed that meant you could only use them on the beach where you find them.
  19. Nice work all of you. I got a hangover, a phonecall, a promise that "something" should be here soon and another phonecall. At least i made my oldman happy, he scored a bag of prawns. Dave
  20. A small rubber band pulled tight between the two hooks works a treat
  21. Penetrating Oil and tiny littel screwdriver. I had one stuck last year on an old Stradic. After a bit of frustration i left it soaked in oil for a few days and then did some very gentle levering. Dave
  22. WOW ten years. All you mob that run this joint need a huge pat on the back. I am always impressed by the manner in which this forum is run. The Mods and Owners deliver a great balance of discussion and debate whilst cutting out the crap and the members have taught me an incredible amount. Thanks for keeping it going guys Dave
  23. I fish for Mullet to use as bait.My oldman loves them grilled. I catch blackfish in winter and bleed, fillet and skin them and still don't "love" them but my missus and my mum do. I would swap four mowies for one nannygai yet i have mates that love the mowie. I dont care how well a salmon has been handled it wont end up on my plate yet many others regularly dish them up. A list based on taste will not work. Maybe we should just have a list of fish that are just plain terrible and should be thrown back. Dave
  24. Yeh you are going to struggle a bit with galvanic corrosion. You can put in rubber washes between the screws and the plate and then put a gasket under the fuel cap. This will reduce it but probably wont stop the corrosion in the long run. Best bet is to replace the plate with stainless. dave
  25. As far as i know all black mussels are alive when you buy them, not sure about the green Kiwi ones. i have used them for bream but that was a while ago when there were still a few hanging off the side of wharves around the Georges. A little hard to keep on the hook but they go alright. Dave
